For this playoffs poll, please choose one track to move on to the Quarterfinals.

IMPORTANT! Please do not simply vote on name recognition (or lack thereof) alone. Please do listen to each nomination and then make your choice. Even if you think you know a track well, it's still worth giving it a listen for a refresher.

The poll will run for seven days. Discussion is greatly encouraged!

The nominees are (please let me know if any video doesn't play for you):

I just prefer the Greenbaum tune.

California Dreamin'

Spirit In The Sky is one of those songs whose popularity confounds me, as in "why does anyone like it?" ><

While I enjoy Spirit in the Sky, California Dreamin' definitely wins my vote.

Spirit in the Sky
(not crazy about either. Would have totally loved Spirit if not for the back vocals that ruin it. As it is, just moderately like it)

ETA: oh, I tied them

I thought I posted my opinion in this thread. Not sure what happened. Long story short...I voted for The Mamas and the Papas - California Dreamin' (1966).

(If anyone sees my post on this vote in the wrong thread, please let me know).

Perhaps I X'd out before submitting my post. It's not terribly interesting. I mainly indicated that I really do love Spirit in the Sky, and would vote for it under most circumstances. As far as one-hit wonders go, it is top notch. But The Mamas and the Papas - California Dreamin' (1966) has such nice harmonies and is such a great song, that I voted for it here. And it makes up for the fact that their best song, Creeque Alley, somehow has already been nixed from the contest.

I missed the round where Creeque Alley was voted, and, to my big surprise, have just found out that I'd never heard the song before. It is soooo good! Hope it didn't get thrown out by one vote or, worse, as a result of a tie

It's a great song. It's such an interesting story, I'm compelled to seek out a biography or something that provides further details on The Mamas and the Papas and how they got their start. (I just figure when a song I love doesn't get many votes, it's because people haven't bothered to listen to it. LOL. Otherwise, the Atomic Fireballs would still be in the running LOL)

I just figure when a song I love doesn't get many votes, it's because people haven't bothered to listen to it. LOLbut it is so

otherwise, what would the point of loving anything be?

the funny part is, it's true for everyone, and in the mutually exclusive cases too
(I concede there might be especially fair-minded people, though, I even admire them, but will never understand them. If we love something, it's not because we have a bad taste, it's because what we love is so incredibly good, and the whole world must admit it, and admit it now http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k291/mishemplushem/Facilitation/bear_grin.gif (http://s91.photobucket.com/user/mishemplushem/media/Facilitation/bear_grin.gif.html))

The poll has closed in a tie, but stated votes favored "California Dreamin'". It will face The Rolling Stones - (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction (1965) in the Quarterfinals.
