During the third round of The Great Music Tournament, please vote for up to two tracks you would like to move onto the playoffs. The top two tracks will be moving on. Keep in mind that the percentage of the vote a given track receives will determine its standing going forward..

IMPORTANT! Please do not simply vote on name recognition (or lack thereof) alone. Please do listen to each nomination and then make your choice. Even if you think you know a track well, it's still worth giving it a listen for a refresher.

The poll will run for seven days. Discussion is greatly encouraged!

The nominees are (please let me know if any video doesn't play for you):

This is NOT their best work.

Agreed. They are better represented with other songs in earlier rounds, so I don't feel so bad not voting for them here.

Of the newer, post Load/Reload era stuff, it's gotta be one of their best, I think.

That's a pretty low bar though. St. Anger was crap. and Death Magnetic wasn't much better. It's basically the tallest midget of those two albums.

Sure but it's still a kick-ass old school type of epic song. I like it a lot, but I am surprised it got this far.

Most Metallica songs I listened to in this contest sent me running the other way, but Metallica - The Day That Never Comes (2008) wasn't too bad. I voted for it.

:frown1:

I thought we had a pretty good sampling of some of their better songs. Fade to Black, For Whom the Bell Tolls, Master of Puppets, One, Enter Sandman.

The Day that Never Comes is OK but personally, it doesn't crack their top 20 for me.

I'm sure it's a genre issue. One person's "sampling of their better songs" is another person's ear-raping experience.

But I do sortof like Enter Sandman.

Surprised to see "Empire State of Mind" behind.

I have really mixed feelings about these results. I love Metallica but this isn't one of my favorite songs. I really like Hurt as well and am sad to see it bow out. Although Christina Aguilera is pretty much the polar opposite of Metallica. :P

I'm really surprised to see the Lady Antebellum song move on. Nothing very special, in my view.
