I'm still struggling to walk properly after my DT S/L acquisition, so I've been looking at some non-King collectibles. Here are some recent adds:

From left to right.
- Best of Caitlin R. Kiernan Volume 1 & 2 (Sub Press)
- Harvest Home by Thomas Tryon (1st Edition)
- Raising Goosebumps by T.E.D. Klein - S/L 500
- Dark Matter by Blake Crouch - S/L 1st edition / 500
- Behold the Void by Philip Fracasi (1st / 1st, personally inscribed on card)
- Dark Gods by T.E.D. Klein (1st / 1st)
- The Light is the Darkness by Laird Barron (1st / 1st) - Inscribed by author

Nice new adds. I understand the walking properly comment perfectly :) I took two months off with the kid coming and my wife keeps reminding me that I've told her no really this is my last add for awhile. But how could I pass up that Gunslinger metal case and the Regulators toy box to go with my print...

I continue to flesh out my non-King collectibles by adding some of my all-time favourite novels to my shelves. Here's another recent-ish haul...

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/500/medium/IMG_3198.JPG

These are all 1sts and flat signed, except for The Wasp Factory which is not signed. I'm especially taken by the copy of Ceremonies, which is fine and perhaps even unread. It is signed and also corrected by T.E.D. Klein. Apparently when signing he would often go through the text and make editorial corrections to the first printings. I haven't thoroughly examined the book yet, but at a glance I have noticed at least 10 corrections to the text. I have heard of other authors doing this when signing (Niven and Pournelle would apparently do it when signing copies of The Mote In God's Eye).

The Light Is The Darkness by Laird Barron and illustrated by David Ho. A limitation of 174 and published by Infernal House. I just received this two days ago and can honestly say it is in the top 10 of my collectibles for its beautiful design and production values. It's just stunning.

You're right about that THE LIGHT IS THE DARKNESS, fantastic design.

That's why I don't let authors touch my books, all they want to do is scribble in them.

Seriously though, I like that GHOST STORY too. I read that book and really liked it. (Not that particular copy, I have an old paperback of my own, thank you very much!)

Thanks Steve... And yeah, if I had known T.E.D. wrote all through my book, I woulda shoed him in the plums.

Yeah, I loved Ghost Story when I read it in my early 20's. I remember it giving me a very unsettling feeling, but I can't recall much of the detail of the story. I plan to revisit it soon.

No, my copy is not rare. But I have some friends who collect vinyl and vinyl has the same "rare" measure as books - there will be a first pressing / first release vinyl of Blood On The Tracks which would be collectible. As for my vinyls, I've just been framing some of my favourite albums... (Although I did get a few rarities a few weeks back on Record Store Day).

Transgressions S/L . This is an anthology I've been after for a while, and purchased from a member here.

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/500/Screen_Shot_2017-05-23_at_1_06_36_pm.png

The Seventh World Fantasy Convention Reader. This has a publishing date of 10-31-1981 (the day of the convention) and is numbered to 1,000. It contains an excerpt from the yet to be published IT, "The Bird and the Album". I've seen copies of it signed / inscribed by other authors included in the Reader, but I liked this copy because it's inscribed by both King and Leiber, to whom the Reader is dedicated. My copy is also signed by a number of others, including Peter Straub.

The first is a very fine The Dead Zone US 1st with one of a very unique inscription dated close to publication date.

The second is a very fine Danse Macabre US 1st, dated prior to publication (according to catalogue). It is inscribed to author Robert Bloch, one of the six authors to whom the book is dedicated, and Bloch’s wife.

Cheers guys. Yeah, I've been looking for an affordable, signed Duma for a while, and got this at a great price. I'm also reminded of how stunning the cover artwork is (maybe needs the Suntup treatment, one of these days?)

Good morning Antoni.
Very little in my opinion beats the signed first edition, and these look two real gems.
I agree as well that "Duma Key" is head and shoulders above many of the Stephen King covers.
Congratulations, two lovely pieces.

Some recent Robert Bloch inscribed books. He'd have to have some of the wittiest inscriptions around.

The Opener of the Way. First edition, published by Arkham House, 1945. This is Bloch's first novel (short stories). I try to avoid books with owner plates, but Bloch here is referring directly to it, William Rotsler, in the inscription: "With warmest appreciation - now pardon me while I go and kill Rotsler!"

The Dead Beat. First US edition, 1960. Here Bloch is not wanting you to think the spine of the book reads that Bloch is a Dead Beat: "Please notice the delicate juxtaposition of title and author's name on the spine of this book - and ignore it for my sake!"

Blood Runs Cold. First US edition, 1961. This is an association inscription. Inscribed to Forrest Ackerman, the famous magazine editor, expert in sci fi and horror, and wrote many books and articles on the subjects. "Warmest regards to Forrest J Ackerman - from a fellow necrophile".http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/941/medium/20914672_10155741233822578_7711621037977957329_n-2.jpg

With Duma Key and now Misery and Skeleton Crew, I find this most refreshing. Superb examples, all three are terrific.
I think there is a tendency to concentrate on the signed limiteds and lettereds, leaving the signed firsts pushed into the background a little, when in reality they form the framework of what we are all collecting.
Beautiful books Antoni, a real pleasure to see.

Joyce Carol Oates was here for the Melbourne International Writer's Festival. I went to her presentation, "The Dark Side of Womanhood". The event was moved to a larger venue because of the interest and it was a sell-out (300-ish capacity). She is a captivating presence and monumental intellect. She inscribed my 1st edition copy of her very first novel, With Shuddering Fall (1964), and her classic collection, Haunted (1994). She was lovely and chatty, surprised to see a copy of With Shuddering Fall, and asked me about myself. We were briefly interrupted by her husband who expressed concern regarding the rain pouring outside, and she told him to go and view some sculptures that were nearby, that she wouldn't be long (there were at least 100 people lined up behind me, I was 10th in line).

For a country that rarely gets visiting international authors, this event was huge.

Another beautiful Bloch!

I notice a book by Matheson's son. I hate to say it, but, although I find 98% of everything Richard Matheson wrote grand and eloquent (he wrote a couple of experimental stories I just did not much care for), I have never read anything by his son I liked in the least. I suppose it's just a matter of personal taste.

Soon after I started collecting King in a focused way, PS Publishing began releasing their special editions. I’ve never really been taken by their artist variants but I’ve always loved the Lettered edition of Thinner. I think Les Edwards is one of the best fantasy artists working today, and I think this cover is one of his best pieces. While I don't collect Lettered editions (beyond my pay scale), I have started collecting Lettered editions where there is no S/L variant.

Well, after years of it being beyond reach, I was finally ready and lucky enough to obtain a copy. Thinner Lettered edition, 1/26 copies, signed by King, Edwards, and Mains. An absolutely stunning book and traycase, with an original piece of artwork and book of remarques... And, of course, a big thank you to a member here, Mr RT...

Well done man. I was gonna do the exact same thing as I am nearing completion of the S/l's.... however I felt PS was far to overpriced. Thinner is the best as well I think... good for you brother!
Cheers, Kris. Yeah, they're high-priced, but the limitation is half some other lettered limitations (a true 26, rather than the more common 52 nowadays). While the price may be a stretch for some of the others, like Carrie, I thought it was right for this one. It's a gorgeous piece. You know you're either going to collect them now, or in 5 years time ;)

very nice!!! How big is that one compared to the standard edition? Is it the same undersized novel or did they move up to the 7 x 10?
Cheers, Josh. I actually no longer have the artist edition to set beside it, but it's a lot bigger (not sure if it's exactly 7 x 10, not currently at home to measure)...

Absolutely fantastic, Antoni. Big congratulations!
Thanks, Alan... Am I correct in that you also have this edition?

Thanks, Steve. I'm critical of my own book photos compared to most of the others on here. They're always just taken with my iPhone. There are two places in the house I take them - either the room where the bookcases are, which is rather dark and has a window which gives an annoying reflection, but I like the backdrop of the bookcase The second place is just beside my desk, on a filing cabinet, upstairs, which has some broad windows that get a lot of light (this is where I took the photos of this trilogy). Maybe I'll stick to the upstairs room for photos!

I love the Bloch and Fowles books from a bit ago! The Magus is really a fantastic book - a little slow by modern standards, but more twists and turns than any other novel I've read. I have a very small Fowles collection (no Magus!), with some stuff from his personal library.

Also, the Durtro Press Ligotti is a treat!

Thank you, lotuz. Yes, I do love collecting Bloch. Such an important writer in the genre and I love his insrcriptions - he would frequently do very long and witty ones. I also have Bloch’s copy of Danse Macabre that King inscribed to him - probably my favourite collectible (top five, at least). I also have a decent-ish Ligotti collection - one of my favourite contemporary authors of the genre. The Magus is all I have of Fowles - I too love that book. I’d love to see your own Fowles collection, including items from his personal library. Intriguing. You need to get a Collection Thread up and running soon!

I agree totally and I think that non-Psycho Bloch is generally underrated. I have some paperback originals and firsts, but no signatures.

And Bloch's copy of Danse Macabre, with an inscription?!? I don't know if there's a better association than that! That would definitely be in my top 5. I'd love to see it, if you haven't posted it already.

I am working on uploading some pictures for an upcoming collection thread :) My best Fowles-related book will probably get a mention, but it's likely not of wider interest. Basically, there is a 19th century book called The Life of the Late Celebrated Mrs. Elizabeth Wisebourn that chronicles a "madame" of the 18th century and her clientele, and in which most of the names are censored as such: J--- S---- or T------ B------. In Fowles's copy, he filled in a bunch of the names in pencil while he was reading it . I really like stuff like that (hence my hearty interest in the Bloch/King association). The idea that an author I admire sat down with this book and engaged with it and wrote in it, is really cool.

Man, that does sound awesome. A combination of ephemera and book. Brilliant. I have a copy of T.E.D. Klein's Ceremonies where he has written, "signed and corrected by T.E.D. Klein". Apparently, when he would sign the first impression he would also often quickly go through and correct some of the errors in the text. So, dotted throughout my copy are all of these small editorial marks. I love it.

And, my inscribed DM to Bloch is on my Collection Thread (post #292)

Like many of you, I’ve been lucky enough to form some great friendships through my book collecting, and also through this King forum. In December, a huge box (the shape of an art print) arrived at my house in Australia (coincidentally, right on my birthday). I didn't recall purchasing any artwork. I opened it and soon realised it was gifted from a member here. A sincere THANK YOU to HONKYTONKSMASH. What can I say, mate? An extremely generous and thoughtful gesture, brother, and it won't be forgotten.

And the detail/quality of this Suntup's print is mind-blowing. I just got it back from the framers today. (Please excuse the shite reflecty photo)...
