Not near as impressive as most of the collections here but I thought I'd go ahead and start my little thread. I have most of my collection up on the CD forum but thought it'd probably be more appreciated here. Hopefully I'll get this right in the posts that follow!

Thanks, Simon and AK again for noticing I was posting photos completely wrong. And thanks again to you, Simon for taking the time to help me get it all cleaned up. Let's see if I've got it down now :). Hold on to your hats!!

Please don't forget to show the whole bookcase - I love seeing everyone's bookcases.

Thanks, everyone for the encouragement and enthusiasm! I'm going to need it! This will be a long, slow process switching everything over to my gallery but we'll get there :). I don't really have any bookcases per say, Lurker. Most are up on my mantle and the shelving that runs along the walls in my basement. I have an unfinished room in my basement that I hope to turn into my library someday and simply run pine shelving long the walls like the ones I saw in one of Paul's post.

Thanks, Simon! Yes, Sir it sure is. It currently houses the Waterstone's exclusive author's note edition. I have an additional one I received in a CD grab bag believe it or not but saving it for the trade UK edition that I don't have as of yet. Otherwise, brother, it'd be yours for the taking.

When did you start collecting? You got a LOT!

The funny thing is, Kris (I think it's Kris lol), not long at along. I discovered CDs site about two years ago but thought, man, the books they offer are really expensive! But I signed up for the newsletter anyway and would peek in on the site from time to time. Then they published IT and I thought, I'm not going to pay $125 for a book!! Well I have it now and I didn't get it that cheap by a long shot lol. In August of last year I signed up for the CD forum, met some great people and made a great friend and mentor there. I didn't have a clue about collecting books. Never knew there was even such beautiful copies out there! My mentor walked me through a lot things, helped me from getting screwed over, and showed me what to look for and how much I should be paying. His health was failing so he presented the offer for me to purchase his collection. Most of what you'll see here is from his collection that I've purchased. I made that first purchase in September of last year and it's been gangbusters every since. I'm a pretty boring guy with no hobbies really and collecting fit me like a glove. I don't smoke, drink rarely, so this is now my one vice. I stumbled upon something I feel will always be my life's passion. So if you see me asking dumb questions about certain editions or copies, you'll know I'm still really, really green lol.

All very, very nice, Brian! I'm a bit surprised that you have separate slip cases for each volume.

John

I'm all about slipcases. I'm like Sherwin Williams, "Slipcase the World!!" But actually, John all those copies came with the slipcases at purchase.

I go to bed and now you're collection thread is up two more pages!

Nice looking collection there Brian861! Always nice to see a new collection go up. I see you've got the "stephenkingcollector" slipcases for your DT series. They look great. I'm in the market for some for my own DT series, how do you rate those slipcases?

Thanks, Peripheral! I'd rate them very well. They are sturdy, the books fit well even with DJ covers, and it's a fair price for what you get. You may notice though that they are primarily made for the Grant editions thus they are a little too wide for the Viking editions. You can really see the difference with Vikings The Wastelands if you look back at my first set of photos. Also as mention, the H & S HC editions are too tall for these slipcases.

You're most welcome, brother and thank you as well! Jeff has the templates ready to go. You'd just need to tell him the color and style. I'd be curious as to what colors you decide to go with if you choose a color that is vs. just black. I did some comparisons the other night as I'm going to have him make me some soon as well. Not sure if he can do it but an orangeish color W&G, burgundy for WOTC, green for SOS (a blue green would look awesome), and blue for TDT would be my choices. I have some photos of the different lettering styles that Jeff sent me if you haven't seen 'em.

Thanks, Jon! I honestly probably wouldn't have considered it but I thought the 666 number was pretty cool. When I showed my wife, she said, "Hey, I've actually heard of that guy"! Meaning Rocky Wood. She went on to say how she'd read an article about him some place and he's battle with illness. Then she told me I'd better hang on to it because this 'one' might actually be worth something some day. My reply was, "You're cute". She said, "What did I say"?! I said nothing honey, you're fine :).

Unfortunately, Peri. Most are stored in an unfinished room that I hope to turn into my library someday. I keep the really good stuff on the mantle in my living room and on the shelving running along the walls in my basement. Those photos are some of the first in the thread if you haven't seen 'em.

Oh you'd have a ton to do before you even could think about starting on the shelves. Drywall, mudding, painting, concrete staining, then you might be able to get to the shelves :).

True on the postage. Oversized stuff suitcases are probably cheaper to fly than the postage. I sent a mate from down under 4 books and it cost almost $100. Nuts!

Latest cases from Jeff:

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/500/SK_Slipcases_Example_11.JPG

The UK 1st was acquired from an eBay seller quite awhile back. The Viking 1st was acquired from a Canadian ABE seller who really stuck it to me on the shipping. I think they charged me close to $17 for shipping but must have crossed the border to ship it. The US media rate on the box stated $3.22. Nice copy all the same but still....

And of course Robin Furth's updated concordance:

Hey, guys. Just wanted to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for all your purchases from me. You've really helped me out in a great time of need. Several of you I've spoken with privately regretting why I needed to reduce my collection and I doubly appreciate your support and encouragement. You know who you are. The PayPal F&F feature is an awesome tool for times like these and I truly appreciate you guys using that as well. Along with adding the 4% to cover fees in certain cases if need be. I'd like to give a special shout out to Tim, Patrick, and Paul. We had some issues with my copies that both Tim and Patrick purchased but these two guy are above stand up and we worked them out amongst ourselves to everyone's liking. Paul, I truly appreciate having the great opportunity to have been in the select group to purchase your rebound edition of EOTD. And appreciate even more your understanding of my need to withdraw. It is a great project and kudos to you again, my friend for all your work on it. I can't wait to see the finished project posted here on the forum. I foresee it being much sought after some day; beyond what it is now.

Although it was tough initially to come to this decision to sale off a lot of my collection; it also brought me back down to earth a bit and helped me to regain my focus to set some semi-goals at least. It's hard not to stray with all the nice, shiny things popping up daily it almost seems. I'm mainly going to be focusing on building my 1st/1st collection (both US and UK), slipcasing said editions, collecting Remarques (this is truly a passion of mine), and continuing with series in which I have mostly the same, if not all of, number or letter. Going to try and eliminate collecting reprints where possible. I will, however, continue to try and collect variant DJ art. The printer variants I think I can live without. Well, at least for now. Might be a bigger goal to shoot for much later down the road.

I've also gone through and deleted most of the copies from my collection thread that have been sold. Some I didn't as they are group photos of several editions and frankly, I'm too lazy to go back and retake photos of the ones that I still have. I did, however, leave all your comments that have been made in the thread. I felt if you took to the time to view and write in the thread, only right that your comments remain. Thanks again, all. Much appreciated.
