Rock n Roll Song Game (http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/showthread.php?11137-Rock-n-Roll-Song-Game)

So this has been a topic of discussion among many.

The rules are loose and subject to future interpretation and modification.

My point is... this is not MY thread… it is OUR thread.

We can make rules when we wish as long as we agree
I propose something akin to “The Rock n Roll Song Game (http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/showthread.php?11137-Rock-n-Roll-Song-Game)

But I want a twist of some sort…this is to be the “professional Rock n Roll Song Game (http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/showthread.php?11137-Rock-n-Roll-Song-Game)”

This should expand your Mind and your search engine!!
Give us parameters such as …. “Songs with colors in the title…. Songs with an animal…
Wide open!!
I propose that a given song of concept may lay dormant for no more than 97 hours… then a new theme is open. It is open to the next member to post…wide open.
We are open to rule changes by anyone.

I'll start this with..

Da Doo Ron Ron (When He Walked Me Home)

Jon

Then just give me responses... and maybe someone will ask for, in about 4 days.... "songs with a saxophone."

I'll start this with..

Da Doo Ron Ron (When He Walked Me Home)

But, wait. What's the first "theme" then? I'm confused.

I mean, should I take your first post "Da Doo Ron Ron (When He Walked Me Home)" and respond with something such as....

Homeward Bound ? :)

Jon
01-08-2016, 10:14 AM
I am sorry. I was looking for parenthetical titles. LOL I screwed up.

But let's throw that out. GSD...give us a theme since I would likely fuck it up again.

Girlystevedave
01-08-2016, 10:20 AM
No no. Parenthetical title theme is fine! :)
Just to be clear on the rules in here, are we doing the same song begins with the last letter of the previous post rule?

Excuse Me (I Think I've Got a Heartache)

Jon

Just to be clear on the rules in here, are we doing the same song begins with the last letter of the previous post rule?

Well...I left that out of the rules on purpose. I think we should discuss that. This is not MY thread nor MY game.

Just to review the guidelines Bill put out for the RR song game...

" Utilize the last letter in the song title to become the first letter in a new song title. "S" is ignored in the plural tense. "The" does not count as well. Band name is required. English language only""

I am fine with that rule...except SOMEONE left me with an "E." *looks at GSD* *Rolls eyes* http://i973.photobucket.com/albums/ae214/denny111/rolling%20eyes.png

I'll go along for now but I'd like other opinions.

Per Jon's suggestion, copied from the R&R song game thread....

Just for a change of pace, I wanted to add this as an option. See if it catches on.
To start, I will provide you with a word. You must then provide a line from a song that contains that word. You can also include the song title and artist if you wish.

For example, I could say "window".
You could come back with "sunshine came softly through my window today".
Sunshine Superman by Donovan
It is then up to you to come up with the next word.

First word "highway"

Br!an
06-28-2016, 02:47 PM
Audioslave - I Am The Highway

"I am not your rolling wheels – I am the highway.
I am not your carpet ride – I am the sky."

AUDIOSLAVE LYRICS

"I Am The Highway"

Pearls and swine bereft of me.
Long and weary my road has been.
I was lost in the cities, alone in the hills.
No sorrow or pity for leaving, I feel, yeah.

I am not your rolling wheels – I am the highway.
I am not your carpet ride – I am the sky.

Friends and liars don't wait for me,
'Cause I'll get on all by myself.
I put millions of miles under my heels;
And still too close to you, I feel, yeah.

I am not your rolling wheels – I am the highway.
I am not your carpet ride – I am the sky.

I am not your blowing wind – I am the lightning.
I am not your autumn moon – I am the night… the night.

Yeah!
I am not your rolling wheels – I am the highway.
I am not your carpet ride – I am the sky.

Well,
I am not your blowing wind – I am the lightning.
I am not your autumn moon – I am the night... the night.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

RAIN

I like the new word having a tie in to the lyrics of the song posted for the old word..

"Upon us all, upon us all a little rain must fall.
It's just a little rain oh yeah"

The Rain Song
- Led Zeppelin

"The Rain Song"

It is the springtime of my loving - the second season I am to know
You are the sunlight in my growing - so little warmth I've felt before.
It isn't hard to feel me glowing - I watched the fire that grew so low.

It is the summer of my smiles - flee from me Keepers of the Gloom.
Speak to me only with your eyes. It is to you I give this tune.
Ain't so hard to recognize - These things are clear to all from time to time.

Talk, talk, talk, talk - I've felt the coldness of my winter
I never thought it would ever go. I cursed the gloom that set upon us, 'pon us, 'pon us...
But I know that I love you so. But I know that I love you so

These are the seasons of emotion and like the wind they rise and fall
This is the wonder of devotion - I see the torch we all must hold.
This is the mystery of the quotient, quotient - Upon us all, upon us all a little rain must fall.
It's just a little rain oh yeah

We're making this up as we go along. I just used a word from elsewhere in the lyrics, but we could certainly use a word included in the quote. I like that idea. I might have to use longer quotes though. :orely:

We're making this up as we go along.

Yes, indeed. ;)
If you'd like to use a word that's included in/related to the lyrics you post; great!
If you you'd like to use a word you pull out of thin air, a hat, or an unnamed orifice; that's also great! :)

Another turning point, a fork stuck in the road
Time grabs you by the wrist, directs you where to go
So make the best of this test, and don't ask why
It's not a question, but a lesson learned in time

It's something unpredictable, but in the end is right,
I hope you had the time of your life.

So take the photographs, and still frames in your mind
Hang it on a shelf in good health and good time
Tattoos and memories and dead skin on trial
For what it's worth it was worth all the while

It's something unpredictable, but in the end is right,
I hope you had the time of your life.

It's something unpredictable, but in the end is right,
I hope you had the time of your life.

You can shine your shoes and wear a suit

Nine lives to itself
But you only got one
And a dog's life ain't fun

You can go to church and sing a hymn
You can judge me by the color of my skin
You can live a lie until you die
One thing you can't hide
Is when you're crippled inside
Well now you know that your

Joy to the World - Three Dog Night

Jeremiah was a bullfrog
Was a good friend of mine
I never understood a single word he said
But I helped him a-drink his wine
And he always had some mighty fine wine
Singin' joy to the world
All the boys and girls now
Joy to the fishes in the deep blue sea
Joy to you and me

Out from the new day's mist I have come
I hunt
Therefore I am

Move swift, all senses clean
Earth's gift, back to the meaning
Back to the meaning of wolf and man

"Wynona's Big Brown Beaver" by Primus

Wynona's got herself a big brown beaver
and she shows it off to all her friends.
One day, you know, that beaver tried to leave her,
So she caged him up with cyclone fence.
Along came Lou with the old baboon
And said "Recognize that smell?"
"Smells like seven layers,
That beaver eats Taco Bell."
Now Rex he was a Texan out of New Orleans
And he travelled with the carnival shows.
He ran bumper cars, sucked cheap cigars
And he candied up his nose.
He got wind of the big brown beaver
So he though he'd take himself a peek,
But the beaver was quick
And grabbed him by the kiwis.
Now he ain't pissed for a week.
(And a half!)
Now Wynona took her big brown beaver,
And she stuck him up in the air.
Said "I sure do love this big brown beaver
And I wish I did have a pair."
Now the beaver once slept for seven days
And it gave us all an awful fright.
So I tickled his chin and I gave him a pinch
And the bastard tried to bite me.
Wynona loved her big brown beaver
And she stroked him all the time.
She pricked her finger one day and it
Occurred to her she might have a porcupine.

With a sword and a pistol by his side.

Well he rode right up to Miss Mousey's door
Gave three loud raps and a very big roar

"Without my uncle Rat's consent
I wouldn't marry the president".
(...)
Well, first to come in was a flyin' moth
She laid out the table cloth

Next to come in was a juney bug
She brought the water jug

Next to come in was a bumbley bee
Sat mosquito on his knee

Next to come in was a broken black flea
Danced a jig with the bumbley bee

Next to come in was Mrs. Cow
She tried to dance but she didn't know how.

Next to come in was a little black tick
She ate so much she made us sick

Next to come in was a big black snake,
Ate up all of the wedding cake

Next to come in was the old gray cat
Swallowed the mouse and ate up the rat

(I'm mot sure how "rock and roll" they are but my wife thought of this so I want to honor her suggestion) :)

A long time ago, when the Earth was green,
There was more kinds of animals than you've ever seen.
And they'd run around free when the Earth was being born,
And the loveliest of 'em all was the unicorn.

There was green alligators and long-necked geese,
Some humpty backed camels and some chimpanzees.
Some cats and rats and elephants, but sure as you're born,
The loveliest of all was the unicorn.

I am submitting this one because it isn't often you can mention a song this obscure. If it dosen't quite fit, I will subtract it from my total! :)

The Fish (Schindleria Praematurus)
Yes

This primarily an instrumental. The only lyrics are the repeated subtitle of the song - "Schindleria Praematurus, Schindleria Praematurus, Schindleria Praematurus."

The subtitle for this song refers to an obscure, neotenic marine fish from the Pacific ocean. "Neotenic" means the adult fish exhibits no adult characteristics, only juvenile characteristics. The story is that Chris Squire had the melody and wanted to sing the name of a fish that had eight syllables, and dispatched a roadie to find one. The best he could find had nine, which is why the last syllable kind of trails off.

Sammy Davis Junior - Talk to the Animals

Oh, if I could talk to the animals, just imagine it
Chatting with a chimp in chimpanzee
Imagine talking to a tiger, chatting with a cheetah
What a neat achievement it would be

If we could talk to the animals and learn their languages
Maybe take an animal degree
I'd study elephant and eagle, buffalo and beagle
Alligator, guinea pig and flea

I would converse in polar bear and python
I would curse in fluent kangaroo
If people asked me, "Can you speak rhinoceros?"
I'd say, "Of courserous, can't you?"

If I conferred with our furry friends, man to animal
Think of the amazing repartee
If I could walk with the animals and talk with the animals
Grunt, squeak and squawk with the animals
And lord, they could talk to me

If I could talk to the animals
Think what fun we'd have asking over crocodiles for tea
Or maybe lunch with two or three lions, walruses and sea lions
What a lovely place the world would be

If I spoke slang to orangutan, oh
The advantages, any fool on earth can plainly see
Discussing Eastern art and dramas with intellectual llamas
That's a big step forward you'll agree

I'd learn to speak in antelope and turtle
My Pekingese would be extremely good
If I were asked to sing in hippopotamus
I'd say, "Whynotamous and I would"

If you stop and think of it, there's no doubt of it
I could win a place in history
If I could walk with the animals and talk with the animals
Grunt, squeak, squawk with the animals
And they could squeak and squawk and speak and talk to me

They would talk to me, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
The animals and me, can't you see me with them?
We're walking like friends
Talking like [Incomprehensible]

I'm sorry, I don't quite understand the scoring... can someone please advise as to my total?

I would say that all of your animals are worth at least two points. The "exotic" animals are five points. There is no definition of exotic at this time. I figure if it isn't very common everywhere then it is exotic. In Florida an alligator isn't very exotic although it is in most parts of the world, so I categorize it as exotic.

Regardless, I think you have the best single post total.

Couldn't buy the seed to plant this spring and the

Called my old friend Schepman up to auction off the land

Hey calling it your job ol' hoss sure don't make it right
But if you want me to I'll say a prayer for your soul tonight

And when your hand is on your heart
You're nearly a good laugh
Almost a joker
With your head down in the pig bin
Saying "keep on digging"
Pig stain on your fat chin
What do you hope to find?
When you're down in the pig mine
You're nearly a laugh
You're nearly a laugh
But you're really a cry.
Bus stop rat bag, ha ha, charade you are
You fucked up old hag, ha ha, charade you are
You radiate cold shafts of broken glass

Sheep - Pink Floyd

Harmlessly passing your time in the grassland away
Only dimly aware of a certain unease in the air
You better watch out
There may be dogs about
I've looked over Jordan and I have seen
Things are not what they seem.
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want
He makes me down to lie
Through pastures green he leadeth me the silent waters by
With bright knives he releaseth my soul
He maketh me to hang on hooks in high places
He converteth me to lamb cutlets
For lo,m he hath great power and great hunger
When cometh the day we lowly ones
Through quiet reflection and great dedication
Master the art of karate
Lo, we shall rise up
And then we'll make the bugger's eyes water.

Pigs on the Wing (part one) - Pink Floyd (Part One)

If you didn't care what happened to me,
And I didn't care for you,
We would zig zag our way through the boredom and pain
Occasionally glancing up through the rain.
Wondering which of the buggars to blame
And watching for pigs on the wing.

Pigs on the Wing - Pink Floyd (Part Two)

You know that I care what happens to you,
And I know that you care for me.
So I don't feel alone,
Or the weight of the stone,
Now that I've found somewhere safe
To bury my bone.
And any fool knows a dog needs a home,
A shelter from pigs on the wing.

Freebird - Lynyrd Skynyrd

If I stay here with you girl
Things just couldn't be the same
'Cause I'm as free as a bird now
And this bird you cannot change
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
And the bird you cannot change
And this bird you cannot change
Lord knows, I can't change

Bird Dog- The Everly Brothers

Johnny is a joker (he's a bird)
A very funny joker (he's a bird)

His jokin' ain't so funny (what a dog)
Johnny is a joker that's a'tryin' to steal my honey (he's a bird dog)

Eye of the Tiger - Survivor

It's the eye of the tiger
It's the thrill of the fight
Rising up to the challenge of our rival
And the last known survivor
Stalks his prey in the night
And he's watching us all with the eye of the tiger

The Night Owls - The Little River Band

Move on, there's a howl of a night owl calling
To belong, she's crying in the night
Be strong, find the heart of a night owl falling
Stay up till dawn until the night is gone

Revelations - Iron Maiden

"O God of Earth and Altar,
Bow down and hear our cry,
Our earthly rulers falter,
Our people drift and die,
The walls of gold entomb us,
The swords of scorn divide,
Take not thy thunder from us,
But take away our pride."
(G. K. Chesterton English Hymnal)

Just a babe in the black abyss,
No reason for a place like this,
The walls are cold and souls cry out in pain,
An easy way for the blind to go,
A clever path for the fools who know
the Secret of the Hanged Man-the smile on his lips.
The light of the Blind-you'll see,
The venom that tears my spine,
The Eyes of the Nile are opening-you'll see.

She came to me with a serpent's kiss,
As the Eye of the Sun Rose on her lips,
Moonlight catches silver tears I cry,
So we lay in the black embrace,
And the Seed is sown in a holy place
And I watched, and I waited for the dawn.

High Hopes - Frank Sinatra

Next time you're found, with your chin on the ground
There a lot to be learned, so look around

Just what makes that little old ant
Think he'll move that rubber tree plant
Anyone knows an ant, can't
Move a rubber tree plant

But he's got high hopes, he's got high hopes
He's got high apple pie, in the sky hopes

So any time you're gettin' low
'stead of lettin' go
Just remember that ant
Oops there goes another rubber tree plant

When troubles call, and your back's to the wall
There a lot to be learned, that wall could fall

Once there was a silly old ram
Thought he'd punch a hole in a dam
No one could make that ram, scram
He kept buttin' that dam

Cat Scratch Fever - Ted Nugent

Well, I don't know where they come from but they sure do come
I hope they comin' for me
And I don't know how they do it but they sure do it good
I hope they're doin' it for free

They give me cat scratch fever
Cat scratch fever

Well, the first time that I got it I was just ten years old
I got it from some kitty next door
An' I went to see the doctor and he gave me the cure
I think I got it some more

They give me cat scratch fever
Cat scratch fever
I got a bad scratch fever
The cat scratch fever

So I was thinking, since we've developed a point system, how about once a certain number of points are reached, the person that reaches said number of points gets to change the criteria of the game and everyone's points gets reset?
I think it's a great idea, only it should be greater than 100 (300 or 500?), or we'll get there too soon

Jon!!!!!!!!!!! I didn't state it explicitly, but isn't it an international understanding that one plays one song at a time and then waits till its their turn again??????

Jean, I thought since you were the one that came up with the animal motif, you should get to pick what is the max number to reach and whoever gets to that number gets to pick the next criteria and also the max number since some criteria will be easier or harder than others. Make sense?

How is it determined that it is one's turn again?

At any rate... just make a ruling. I will reduce points as you all see fit. Also... when a turn is determined...only one tune per post?

Folks...I AM sorry. I have no defense and no excuse. I just don't know WHAT was in my head! I simply wasn't thinking. Please know this was not one out of malice...just stupidity and forgetfulness.
I will do the right thing an withdraw from this particular game, furthermore, I will spread the love VIA PM when I think of other tunes that play on this game. I will send PMs randomly to other participants.

Damage Inc. - Metallica

Dealing out the agony within
Charging hard and no one's gonna give in
Living on your knees, conformity
Or dying on your feet for honesty
Inbred, our bodies work as one
Bloody, but never cry submission
Following our instinct not a trend
Go against the grain until the end

Blood will follow blood
Dying time is here
Damage Incorporated

Slamming through, don't fuck with razorback
Stepping out? You'll feel our hell on your back
Blood follows blood and we make sure
Life ain't for you and we're the cure
Honesty is my only excuse
Try to rob us of it, but it's no use
Steamroller action crushing all
Victim is your name and you shall fall

No, don't withdraw!!!!!!!! Just do the right thing in a different way: go back to your posts and edit out everything that's out of turn, leaving only one tune, and re-calculate your score, everything will be fine!!!!!!!!

Gator Tails And Monkey Ribs
by The Spats

Gator tails, monkey ribs
(Yeah yeah yeah yeah)
Gorilla biscuits and potato chips
Elephant grape juice and turtle pie
Banana splitter with a ham on rye

Got a girl in Mississippi
Stayed next door to my Uncle Trippy
Brought her on down to Smokey's Cafe
The waiter asked her what she wanted
And this is what she said

[CHORUS]

Gator tails, monkey ribs
(Yeah yeah yeah yeah)
Gorilla biscuits and potato chips
Elephant grape juice
and turtle pie
Banana splitter with a ham on rye

The waiter was shocked
He stood in his tracks
He jammed through the kitchen
And he split right back
He had the Chef by the hand
He said, Dig this chick I think she's insane

[BRIDGE]

I jumped to my feet
I took his jaw
The dude got nervous
And he called the law

The next thing I knew
I was sittin' in jail
Trying to figure out a way
To pay my bail

[repeat CHORUS]

Bob Dylan - Man gave names to all the animals

(...)He saw an animal that liked to growl
Big furry paws and he liked to howl
Great big furry back and furry hair
Ah, think I'll call it a bear
(...)He saw an animal up on a hill
Chewing up so much grass until she was filled
He saw milk coming out but he didn't know how
Ah, think I'll call it a cow
(...)He saw an animal that liked to snort
Horns on his head and they weren't too short
It looked like there wasn't nothing that he couldn't pull
Ah, think I'll call it a bull
(...) He saw an animal leaving a muddy trail
Real dirty face and a curly tail
He wasn't too small and he wasn't too big
Ah, think I'll call it a pig
(...)Next animal that he did meet
Had wool on his back and hooves on his feet
Eating grass on a mountainside so steep
Ah, think I'll call it a sheep

(I didn't count the snake in, because it was never named, only assumed in the last verse http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k291/mishemplushem/Facilitation/bear_grin.gif (http://s91.photobucket.com/user/mishemplushem/media/Facilitation/bear_grin.gif.html))

Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport

There's an old Australian stockman, lying, dying,
and he gets himself up on one elbow,
and he turns to his mates,
who are gathered 'round him and he says:.
Watch me wallabys feed mate.
Watch me wallabys feed.
They're a dangerous breed mate.
So watch me wallabys feed.
Altogether now!
Tie me kangaroo down sport,
tie me kangaroo down.
Tie me kangaroo down sport,
tie me kangaroo down.
Keep me cockatoo cool, Curl,
keep me cockatoo cool.
Don't go acting the fool, Curl,
just keep me cockatoo cool.
Altogether now!
Take me koala back, Jack,
take me koala back.
He lives somewhere out on the track, Mac,
so take me koala back.
Altogether now!
Mind me platypus duck, Bill,
mind me platypus duck.
Don't let him go running amok, Bill,
mind me platypus duck.
Altogether now!
Play your digeridoo, Blue,
play your digeridoo.
Keep playing 'til I shoot thro' Blue,
play your digerydoo.
Altogether now!
Tan me hide when I'm dead, Fred,
tan me hide when I'm dead.
So we tanned his hide when he died Clyde,
(Spoken) And that's it hanging on the shed.
Altogether now!

Please allow me to make amends for the last game.

In this game let's post tunes that pose a question. 1 point for such a tune and a second point if the posed question is genuinely answered in that tune. A third point awarded if the question is answered specifically in another tune.
Post all tunes...artists and lyrical snippet that may apply.

if I understood the rules right:

Where have all the soldiers gone, long time passing?
Where have all the soldiers gone, long time ago?
Where have all the soldiers gone? - Gone to graveyards, every one
When will they ever learn,
When will they every learn?

I have here a question (1 point), an answer (1 point), and another question in the same verse, I don't know if I can count it in

Elvis Costello – Peace, Love And Understanding

I ask myself
Is all hope lost? (1)
Is there only pain and hatred, and misery?(2)

And each time i feel like this inside,
There's one thing i wanna know:
What's so funny 'bout peace love & understanding? ohhhh(3)
What's so funny 'bout peace love & understanding?

And as i walked on
Through troubled times
My spirit gets so downhearted sometimes
So where are the strong(4)
And who are the trusted?(5)
And where is the harmony?(6)
Sweet harmony.

So this raises another question. Does a multi-part question count as one question or the number of questions raised?

For example; "Is there only pain and hatred, and misery?" & "What's so funny 'bout peace love & understanding?" each raise three questions.

So 6 for now. Or 10? :orely:

Do You Feel Like We do? - Peter Frampton

Well, woke up this morning with a wine glass in my hand.
Whose wine? What wine? Where the hell did I dine? (3)
Must have been a dream I don't believe where I've been.
Come on, let's do it again.

Do you... you, feel like I do? (4)
How'd ya feel? ( At first, I felt that his line is just a rewording of the previous question. But I now think it is a different question. It is even in a different tense. = 5.)
Do you... you, feel like I do?

Oh baby do you feel?
Oh baby do you feel, feel like we do? - (Now these DO feel like rewording of the fourth question. = 0)
