I don’t know if y’all remember just how huge Juice Newton was in the early ‘80s. She charted on pop, country, and adult contemporary (14 top-10 hits and 6 at #1). Perhaps her best known hit is Queen of Hearts, and maybe her prettiest is her cover of Angel of the Morning or the Carpenters-esque The Sweetest Thing I've Ever Known. Also good is her sultry cover of Break It to Me Gently. However, I’m going to nominate one a little less known, but a fun peppy tune:

The early 80's was a fantastic time for experimental music.
And I know a lot of these obscure ones I'm picking won't get seconded but I want to get a few freaky unheard songs out there. Probably, my favorite type of music is experimental or weird or avant-garde or fucked up, whatever, I like weird shit is what I'm saying. I won't do many more and get back to "regular" nominees soon.

Axel Foley: [mocking him] "You're not gonna fall for the banana in the tailpipe? It should be more natural, brother. It should flow out, like this - "Look, man, I ain't fallin' for no banana in my tailpipe!" See, that's more natural for us. You been hanging out with this dude too long."

I have at least 40 tracks on my list too....

As the nominations for Threads 1 & 2, were decreased to only 56 songs each; is it possible to increase the nominations within both of the 80's threads?

mae
01-07-2016, 06:21 AM
I'd rather not (and Thread #1 was always designed to be 56). I share the pain but enlarging wouldn't be fair, plus would balloon the voting process, which I've already devised to be as optimal as it could be. It just means we must be that much more selective in our nominations and especially secondings. Still, whatever ends up being left out of the main tournament can still be posted here and enjoyed by all, outside competition.

I won't nominate anymore tracks in this thread, as I believe the best tracks have already been nominated and waiting to be seconded. I would like to ask everyone to look closely at the current list of songs before nominating anymore songs?

I am going to kick things off by seconding this song, which was nominated ages ago....

If we had the time, I'm sure we could come up with 112 nominations per year, not per five years, so lots and lots of great music had to be left behind.
