Thanks, everyone! I really appreciate everyone's supportive comments. It's so nice to have an outlet for my addiction and kind folks who encourage it.

And don't worry - we all have the same addiction in varying degrees!

It certainly helps having an outlet. Especially since whenever I get a package in the mail, I end up trying to hide it before my wife can see another book purchase!

Thanks, dnemec! I appreciate you stopping by. The UK proofs are certainly more difficult to locate and the older ones rarely come up. Which ones have you picked up?

Since "The Fireman" was announced, I have stepped up my Joe Hill game. As his popularity increases, I imagine his older works will become that much more difficult to find. So, if it's not too late already, I thought I'd start filling in the holes. Just picked these up:

Paul, I loved Pop Art. The title makes such great sense after reading the story. So much of the early stuff is very hard to find.

I just got the Thumbprint Lettered in this morning, but still searching for the Voluntary Committal. Here's the Thumbprint:

Congratulations on the lettered Thumbprint, Jeff. I like it so much better than Pop Art. It always seemed a shame that Pop Art didn't have a slipcase, let alone a traycase. Good luck on Voluntary Committal, I need that one too. We will probably be competing for one! They seem to be very scarce, well there are only 26!

Jon, thanks for the valuable info. Good luck on the acquisition and hope you are able to acquire it at a reasonable price. Curious as to the seller's source of six copies (as I am sure you are as well), but it is much more information than before the day started. Much appreciated.

I think he only had the one copy, he claimed that only about six were produced by Scribner. With most proofs, these figures you have to take with a pinch of salt.

It has been about six weeks since I have updated my collection thread and thought I'd post what I have acquired since. I have tried to be more discerning and disciplined in adding to my collection, but it's tough for me to say "no." I'm sure most of us can relate. Prior to slowing down (a little), I picked up the following:

Firestarter S/L 723/725 dated July 8, 1980 and inscribed to "Warren" by Stephen King on 11/2/80, also signed in gold by Michael Whelan--I hadn't seen any like this one before, but I'm sure they are out there.

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/861/medium/0296.JPGhttp://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/861/medium/0286.JPG

From Bett's most recent sale, The Shining 1st/1st (unsigned) in a cool, Dolso case also purchased much earlier from David:
http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/861/medium/1121.JPGhttp://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/861/medium/1131.JPG
http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/861/medium/108.JPGhttp://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/861/medium/109.JPG

Also, purchased to support the Haven Fund (and for my collection), the dark green, one of a kind(because of the color), Gunslinger metal case. I know everyone has seen this before, but it is a really cool item:
http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/861/medium/0572.JPG

Finally, a couple of the UK Signed, limited editions, "Wizard and Glass" and "WTTKH":

I can understand missing the Firestarter S/L. It holds a special place since it's the one that kicked off King's S/L run. Appreciate the comment and I have no doubt you'll own another one. Sure wish I could add Mike's! It frustrates me just to see it sitting out there, but out of my reach.

Thanks, Bob. It came with the proof dust jacket, but I believe Paul is right in that the dust jacket appears to be identical to a first printing UK dj, but folded over like what was used on the Christine proof. Hope you are having a great summer!

In the past few weeks, I have picked up a couple of new items.

1) Desperation Gift edition, signed by Stephen King (01/20/97)

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/861/medium/IMG_78771.JPG?3701http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/861/medium/IMG_78781.JPG?6975

2) The Stand: The Complete & Uncut Edition Manuscript

This is a four volume beast of a manuscript which has many hand written edits to the manuscript. Displaying thick manuscripts in multiple volumes is a challenge so it will continue to reside in its shipping box for the time being. According to the seller, this is one of a handful of copies intended for in-house use only at Doubleday and is made from the original King submitted manuscript. Like the original King manuscript, this copy is also printed in a "one-sided" format.

I agree with you, peri. Inscribed gift editions are difficult to come by and I thought the price was fair. I've certainly been there when I've had to pass because of other obligations--no fun when that happens!

Also, my collection thread would not be complete without adding Paul's (zelig) piece of art and labor of love. Thanks again for your hard work on this one:

As usual, I've been crazy busy with work, but have recently picked up a few new items. Although I was not able to attend the King event in Maine for the release of Hearts in Suspension, a generous member graciously offered me an extra copy for a reasonable price:

I'm really excited by the items below. As you will recall, the books below are Desperation Gift editions that were remarqued by the artist, Don Maitz, and signed by both Maitz and King. I know there are a couple more of these out in the wild which I hope to acquire someday. In the meantime, I'm happy as can be with these:

Thanks, Paul! I look forward to adding more quality and unique items from Suntup and Dragon Rebound as the years progress.

Additionally, I have been interested in picking up some of the Japanese editions of King's work due to the unusual nature of the art work. Most of the editions have pretty cool covers.

The IT "Bunko" editions and the "IT" Hardcover:

Recently, I was fortunate enough to win the auction for the Haven Fund fundraiser featuring the King signed 1st/1st Desperation uniquely remarqued and signed by Don Maitz. I really wanted to acquire this one because I had a couple of the other King signed/Maitz remarqued Gift editions which were offered in prior Haven Fund fundraisers. I love the art that Don did on the page block and that King inscribed it "Tak!":

Pixie, thanks for perusing the thread. I just picked up a few more books about King. Very recently, I stumbled onto several books about King that are from the collection of Tim Underwood, who edited several books about King. It was represented to me that these were his copies of the books he edited with Chuck Miller. While they may not be for everyone (except Stroppygoblin who loves these like I do), I think they are pretty cool:

Stroppy, thanks for sharing the pic! You've got an awesome U/M collection. I still need to add the Reign and Feast lettereds to the collection--the trick is finding them at the right price. Curious as to the differences in slipcase colors. IMO, the red matches the spine of the dust jacket a lot better than the blue. I wonder why the difference?

Thanks, Mike. Hopefully, you had the opportunity to check out the rest of the thread. I've had a blast putting together my collection and have no intention of stopping. It's a terrible addiction.

The Colorado Kid I stumbled on this unusual item on eBay immediately after it was listed for a very reasonable sum and jumped on it. As you can see, it is the trade Potter edition, but had the S/L sheet inserted and not numbered, but signed by all the right folks. I assume this was a promotional item, but I have never seen one before. Does anyone else have one or seen it before? I took the page out of the book and put it in the holder for protection since it was just loosely inserted.

I picked up a couple of signed proofs recently and was very happy to get these because they are inscribed by King to the Academy Award winning director, Jonathan Demme, who won the Best Director Oscar for The Silence of the Lambs. At one time, Demme was signed on to direct, produce, and write an adaptation of Stephen King's 11/22/63, but later left due to disagreements with King on what should be included in the script. As everyone knows, signed, let alone inscribed association copies, are very tough to come by. Demme passed away in April of 2017 and is survived by his wife, Joanne Howard. Here are photos below:

Really cool proofs!

Thanks all for the very nice comments on my new proofs--it's always nice to share new acquisitions and get feedback. Prior to Christmas, I did not have the opportunity to post my copy of the Dragon Rebound Firestarter. My copy is lettered "O" and I just love the design Paul created. It turned out beautifully:

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/861/IMG_11493.JPGhttp://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/861/IMG_11502.JPG
http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/861/IMG_11532.JPGhttp://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/861/IMG_11522.JPG

Speaking of Firestarter, I have always set as an aspirational goal collecting a copy of the Firestarter S/L signed by King on each of the four dates. I decided to make this a goal after seeing a similar set in Bob Jackson's collection and one later offered for sale by David at Betts. I finally acquired the last of the four copies and my set is now complete. Woohoo! I have the following numbers: 93 (July 5, 1980), 163 (July 6, 1980), 503 (July 7, 1980), and 723 (July 8, 1980). The one I just picked up no. 93 below was also signed on a later date by Michael Whelan. Pics of the other copies are posted earlier in the thread. Here you go:

Thanks, Jerome! This forum is filled with members who help each other out. In large part, it's been through kind members (yourself included) who have helped me grow my collection and acquire some pretty cool books.

Here's the last of the stuff I picked up before Christmas last year:

UK Sleeping Beauty S/L

UK Under the Dome S/L

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/861/IMG_11541.JPGhttp://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/861/IMG_11552.JPG

Inscribed 1st/1st The Dead Zone I love acquiring signatures from the 70s from King, but they are darn hard to find.

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/861/IMG_09851.JPGhttp://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/861/IMG_09861.JPG

Inscribed Stephen King Omnibus I liked this one because it's one you never see signed. While it might not appeal to many, it spoke to me.

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/861/IMG_09781.JPGhttp://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/861/IMG_09791.JPG

Fantastic additions, and I love those inscriptions. (That omnibus spoke to me too, and I had my eye on it for a long while as well). Congratulations.

Thanks, peri! I really wanted the Omnibus because it's the type of thing you never see signed and most would never bring something like that to a signing. I'm happy to have it in the collection.

Many thanks, racer! It took a while and some quality funds to put together, but I can stop my obsessive checking of copies of the Firestarter S/L I see for sale.

Thanks! It's a fun quest and I think you'll enjoy putting them together. They look cool sitting on the shelf!

2018 has started off with an unexpected "bang" to both my collection and my bank account: additions to the collections and subtractions from the bank account. While I planned to step somewhat slowly into the New Year, too many unique and rare items keeping showing up for sale. Collecting proofs/manuscripts is one of my favorite areas of interest when it comes to King and is incredibly challenging. I particularly go crazy when I have the opportunity to pick up a signed proof or manuscript. Here's what I picked up from a member here who is selling some of his King collection:

Signed black and white trade cover The Stand (Complete and Uncut) Proof

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/861/IMG_1420.JPGhttp://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/861/IMG_1422.JPG

Signed The Regulators (2 Vol.) Comb binding Manuscript

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/861/IMG_1387.jpghttp://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/861/IMG_1389.JPG

Signed The Green Mile Contest Proof: (Vol. 1) The Two Dead Girls

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/861/IMG_1391.JPGhttp://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/861/IMG_1392.JPG

While acquiring these was a big stretch, I knew if I didn't jump on them that I'd probably never have the chance to add them to my collection again. Hopefully, the plasma center is still open so I can raise some funds to purchase whatever Suntup is offering on February 8th!

Holy hell... Every time I drop by here, mind = blown. That Regulators manuscript signed! The Stand Uncut proof signed!! Just incredible stuff... Congratulations, and it's great that these items are staying among dedicated collectors here in the DT.

During the start of 2018, I have focused on adding to my proof and manuscript collection. Fortunately, some tough ones to find have hit the marketplace and the competition for rare proofs/manuscripts doesn't seem to be as competitive as in the past. Also, I stumbled into a great deal along the way as well. Here's the new additions:

Skeleton Crew U.S. Proof

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/861/IMG_1357.JPG

The Outsider U.S. Proof I've seen a few of these pop up, but not too many. It's still tough to gauge how rare this one might be.

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/861/IMG_1474.JPG

Dark Tower IV: Wizard and Glass Unbound Manuscript I picked this one up from a member here and some of you may have seen it. It is a copy of the unbound manuscript from Donald M. Grant, Publisher, Inc. to Locus magazine. Unfortunately, it appears that someone spilled a cup of coffee heavily laden with sugar on the corner of the manuscript. So far, I have been able to carefully separate all of the pages and get rid of most of the sugar. My plan is to take it to a paper conservator at the University of Texas and see if they can clean it up further. From what I can tell, this is an extremely rare manuscript and is the only known copy in that I can't find another copy after going through the SK Proofs thread or looking through the catalogue. Doesn't mean there isn't another one out there, but if there is a reference to it, then it isn't readily available.

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/861/IMG_1468.JPGhttp://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/861/IMG_1469.JPG

From A Buick 8 Bound Manuscript Previously, there was believed to be one known copy of this manuscript, but I recently stumbled on a second copy and am very happy to add this extremely rare one to my collection.

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/861/IMG_1382.JPG

That's it for now, but always on the prowl.

Like so many, I really enjoy the quest of hunting for proofs and seeing if I can acquire as many as my budget and their availability will allow. Recently, I picked up the following:

FDNS Scribner (U.S.) 1st state proof with letter Like JonP has said, the FDNS proofs are pretty elusive and tough to find. I'm still searching for the white tape spine FDNS.

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/861/IMG_15232.JPGhttp://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/861/IMG_15242.JPG

Blockade Billy White wrappers proof This is an extremely hard to find proof and it is was the only one of the CD bound proofs I did not have (I am missing some of the unbound proofs). I'm happy to add this one to the collection!

Congrats, Jeff!

Much appreciated, Brian!

A couple of other bound manuscripts which are very hard to find also arrived this week. I have been surprised that so many rare proofs and manuscripts have remained available for sale for such an extended period. I realize that they are an acquired taste and rarely signed by King, but they are one of my favorite parts of collecting King because of their scarcity, fragility and variety. Plus, like all collectors, it's also about the thrill of the hunt. I also enjoy browsing through the old collection threads and seeing if I can track a particular copies ownership history. The ones below look like they started out in Olverts collection, moved to MP, and now to me where they will hopefully reside for a good while.

After much searching and angst over whether to drop the coin (in for a penny, in for a pound, right?), I have finally acquired one of the more difficult proofs to find. Big thanks to one of our members for working with me on this one. Here are the photos and the accompanying release letter from Scribner:

Can't believe it has been so long since I have posted to my collection thread. So, I thought it was time to update and share a few recent pickups. As always, the best source for growing my collection has been other collectors (you know who you are).

This item has been elusive to me for a long time. It is the variant cover ("proof") of Plume's "Dark Tower I: The Gunslinger," which is depicted to the right of the widely released version. Legend has it that King wanted more emphasis on the Dark Tower and less on the Gunslinger so the variant cover was never released in general circulation. In addition to the variant cover, there are also differences in the design of the spine.

Like others, I enjoy collecting manuscripts (or copies of manuscripts) and had never seen this version of the Wind Through the Keyhole previously. I know jhanic has previously posted pics of an unbound manuscript labeled "2nd draft;" however, this one is a different unbound version.

I appreciate it, Frank! Thanks for always patiently answering my questions on German King collectibles.

As each of you know, it is always nice to have others comment on your passion. I'm grateful to each you for encouraging me to further eliminate any chance my children will inherit any actual cash.

One more item to add this week and it is one I have searched for to no avail over the past several years. I have an Audio S/L of DT I: The Gunslinger matching the number of my set (445), but the S/L of DT II had eluded me. Thanks to a member here my no. 1 collecting goal of 2019 was met and I can add a sealed DT I and II S/L Audio to the collection:

Any stories behind these John? Pictures? That's a helluva drop for one day.

These are items that a member emailed me. I won't post the pics--that's up to him to share if he wants to.

John

Dear Constant Proof Reader, please consider posting photos and/or the stories behind them, or allowing John to do it anonymously for you. I'd also be happy to do same if you'd like. Thank you! George

In light of the request, I thought I'd post pictures of these items. In reviewing the DT "Stephen King Proof" page, I noted that the proofs above were not on the list. I knew that John (jhanic) maintained the list so I sent him an email along with pics and asked if he thought they were worthy of being included on the list. All of the above were acquired in the past year in the usual fashion. Meaning, like most rare and hard to find items, they were transferred from one collector/member to another and that's how all of the above came into my possession. The signed UTD 3 volume and Sleeping Beauty 2 volume proofs were impossible to turn down and I trusted the providence of the signatures because of who acquired them. If you track back aways through the proof thread, you will find references to the existence of these items prior to them being signed. Although I haven't done a great job of updating my collection thread, I do have an Instagram account (stephenkingcollectibles) that I do a better of job of maintaining and showing recent purchases. Here are the pics:

One of my favorite parts of collecting Stephen King is tracking down elusive proofs, manuscript copies, and other pre-publication items. I know they are not for everyone, but I love them and the fun that comes from the thrill of the hunt.

Yep, should have known it was you Jeff but John was being all secretive! Phenomenal drops as always, you are one helluva collector. Do you have a list of wants for proofs and manuscripts? I come across manuscripts every once in awhile but don't collect except for the CD unbounds. Proofs I always look out for, but haven't bought many recently ... last was the Blockade Billy white covers.

Thank you, Frank! When I had a chance to get them, I knew I'd never see them again if I passed. You know how it goes!

George, I also left you a comment under the "Proofs" thread. Congrats on the Blockade Billy white cover pickup. Those are very hard to find! As far as manuscripts, if you see an extra unbound CD IT out there, please let me know. I have the "color" version of the unbound CD proof, but not the B and W. I have to try to close the circle.

Thanks to all for stopping by and checking out the collection page. I'll try and post more here, but I also post on my Instagram page: stephenkingcollectibles. Please check it out.

Thanks, Vincent! One day, I want to read your dissertation on the evolution of IT. Needless to say, you have thoroughly researched IT!
