I have to wonder why? What does it matter? I may sell my extra copy, and I'm a huge fan, I feel it helps out the fans that can't attend the event. Drama !!!!!!

Looks like I'm meeting up with Glenn Chadbourne on Monday.
Having a pint right at a wharf on the ocean.

Nice... Is this a private meeting? I may be traveling hwy 1 from Portland to Bangor Monday, give me a shout.

Turns out Glenn didn't realize he is scheduled to be out of town for a wedding, so the meeting is cancelled.

My wife and I worked hard to move schedules around so we could attend the event. Unfortunately, the day I called to order two tickets, they sold out. So with that said, after reading the post on the Kings site, it seems like they feel if you can't make the event, you shouldn't be allowed to own a signed copy. If this is the case, maybe the number of tickets sold shouldn't have been limited.

If they had their way, a red stamp will be placed in the book saying "not allowed for resale".

It also seems to me that Mrs. Mod is more interested in stopping someone reselling a legit King signature vs. putting efforts towards removing forged copies off EBay. If you are wondering, yes she has the power to remove forged books.

This seems to be an event where people are coming in at varying times, for varying durations.
The main common factor is we all will be at the signing.
I believe there are people staying in Portland Saturday night (I'll be in Bangor that night), some staying in or near Bridgton etc.
After the event (it will likely end by noon) I'm not sure.
There is no official TheDarkTower.org gathering. It's just too complicated.

I feel a bit of your pain. Left my house today at 5.25pm. 20 minutes to our public transit. 90 minute ride to San Francisco airport. 5 minutes for security (I have the TSA Known traveler pre check ). Plane leaves at 9.55pm.
Long story short arrive in Bangor ~13 hours after I left home.

1:30 am and finally checked in the hotel in Bangor

long long day of airplanes ends in an airport with zero cabs...
20 people waiting on a cab... none to be seen.... standing at curb...45 minutes later finally get one to pick me up. From what I gather, everyone is drunk downtown Bangor...

I'm sitting outside of the Bridgton books and magic lantern theater as I type this. Just pick-up our tickets to the event. The lady at the book store, Sue I believe, said King would be here from 10am -12, she was not sure if he would speak or not. I asked her if everyone would fit in the theater, she belived they would. Cool little town, lots of people walking the side walks. I passed the Kansas rd on the drive here from Portland...:)

Sorry if this gets boring, and if the pictures take time to load. I'll do my best to be succinct and let Kris and others chime in.

Met Kris and his wife at Sea Dog Brewing for lunch. Directly behind is the Penobscot river:

http://www.thedarktower.org/custom/images/1436661868-Sea%20Dog%20lunch%20group.jpg

We met Stu Tinker nearby for his tour. There were 8 people + Stu.
Stu did a 3.5 hour tour that was amazing. Too much for me to type it all. Just take the tour!

Personal rantThe tour was booked full and Sir_Boomme couldn't go on the 2pm tour with us. Terry did the 9am tour. Someone named "Melissa" had reserved the tour for 2 people. She was a no show/no call and thus screwed Terry over. Whoever Melissa is, she deserves bad King karma

Front of Historic High School that King taught English in. King actually never taught in this specific building, but in a slightly newer side building. The side building and gym were partial inspiration for Carrie.

Smaller bookstore location where Betts Books once was. Originally Betts was in a much larger building, but downsized to this storefront:

Sewer grate that was integral to "IT". Kris was shocked when Pennywise grabbed him:

Guest house/office next door to King's residence. The neighbor was so annoying that King bought the house for quadruple market price. It was dilapidated and the inside had to be gutted to restore it.

King's Bangor home. Careful scrutiny will reveal the 12 cylinder Mercedes Benz in the driveway.

One can hope, I brought a couple of books just in case. Sue from the bookstore told me he should be there btw 10-12 or when he's done with the 500. I wish I had a way to post photos as I've seen so many king references; Sebago Lake (bag of bones), Kansas road from DT 6&7, reny's hardware, food city, Bridgton books, the movie theater, town hall, jail, the Bridgton news and Rosie's diner... ( All these under the dome) and the mist. Going to venture around to look for more king related sites. And of course hope to meet our dark tower.org clan..:) I'll be wearing my black 2012 DT t-shirt and be with my 6yr old son Trevor. This area is awesome, reminds me of northern MI. Where I grew up....plus all the king references, I would recomend any fan check this area out.
Great pictures RF ! Hope to meet ya tomorrow.....If ya'll see a balding guy with glasses wearing a black DT.0rg 2012 shirt with a 6yr old red haired boy give us a shout....

One more post...need to get some rest, been up for 24hrs. There seems to be plenty of parking around Bridgton. Looks like the entrance to the theater and parking is in the back, there's a pub entrance in the front. Watch out for all the semi trucks rolling through town ( Pet Sematary ). I'm not sure if you need your receipt/ticket from the book store to get into the theater or not? I was told to have your Id ready to check your name off the list at the theater.

Come on! It's been over for an hour and a half! Deets! Did he speak? Sign other books? Go to lunch with the TDT crowd? Leave a trove of signed books at Bridgton Books? Lax/Draconian? Any random 'accidental' encounters?

Did Pennywise leave anyone in a fetal position on the Tinker tour or get 'battery acid' sprayed on him?

Do you all float?

Hope that you all had a great time and that the small size of the event allowed some magical things to happen! Now make it home safely and take care of those books!

Good event...

As others will attest, for those willing to put the work in, there were a few extra signatures, etc. I however, was not.

I did plan to tell him that I had proofread DT VII back in the day and kept the ending a secret - but when I got up there, I decided why bother, and I said, "how you doing?" he said "hey," signed it, and I said "thanks a lot." And that was that!

My third "in person" signing, but I'm still chasing any kind of personalization.

But it was neat meeting folks with their real name/faces and was well worth the drive (I realized too late that Boome was there, but I didn't meet him! But, maybe some things are best left as mysteries...). I avoided the highway on the way back to NH seacoast...don't know if it was a timesaver, but there was certainly no traffic and I'm back home already!

There will be much cooler stories to come - but those folks can have their own press conferences! Haha...

Nice event. Well run and nice people. The rules are a bit ridiculous asking old ladies not to carry a purse and take it back to their cars but that's how it goes. I asked King if he had read Patrick O'Brian and he said he had and passed them on to his son Joe whose kindergarten teacher was in line just in front of me.

Also, it was a pleasure to meet some of you tdt.org vets today-- I remember shaking hands with carlosdetweiller (gilead gunslingers shirt, right?), and was next to another gentleman from TX in the theater...pink shirt, if I recall. Took pictures of his donut, hahaha. Seems like a great group of folks.

A few recollections and pics from today's signing.

Arrived in Bridgton at 8:15 am this morning. Already a dozen people in line, and surprisingly Roseannebarr wasn't first in line. I think even he was stunned.

Roseannebarr with a King fan with King related tattoos, including King's signature. Several collector's offered to buy her arm...

The Bookstore was directly across the street from the venue:

Magic Lantern:

The line stretched a bit before they opened:

It was a very very warm day. Probably 90 degrees and 60% humidity, but we had fun outside waiting.
L-R: Randall Flagg, Wizardsrainbow, carlosdetweiller and Pasiuk.

They opened the doors about 20 minutes before 10AM. Two different I.D. checkpoints, but the people were polite. Free juice and donuts were provided.
We entered the theater and sat in delightfully cool air.

Still learning the lay of the land here, so my apologies if this is an inappropriate forum: but I'm wondering if folks know where I might acquire Finders Keepers slipcases? I had heard Cemetery Dance, and checked their site, but they appear sold out.

Any leads are greatly appreciated.

There was some form of "ticket" for those who went to the bookstore the day before the event.
I showed up the day of the event with my I.D. and received a printed invoice (standard 8.5"x11" printer paper) and small credit card processing thermal receipt.

For those still in Portland, if you have time stop by 'Duckfat.' It's a quaint little sandwich shop located near the waterfront, on Middle Street, off of India. Excellent food, great beer, custom sodas, and the best Belgian-style french fries. Alternatively, you haven't had breakfast in Maine unless you've stopped at 'Becky's Diner' on Commercial Street, near the Casco Bay Bridge. Their grilled blueberry muffins and chowders are superb.

Enjoy your travels in the Pine Tree State!

Almost forgot-- for those traveling to Acadia Nat'l Park in Bar Harbor: be sure to have dinner at 'Jack Russell's' (phenomenal steak dinners), grab some lobster ice cream at 'Ben & Bill's," drive to the top of Cadillac Mountain, and if you have time visit nearby Castine. That's Maine's natural beauty at its finest.

We met Stu Tinker nearby for his tour. There were 8 people + Stu.

Well, I am back. What a rush.... my first time in front on King and well.. we will get to that later. I really enjoyed my trip. Stu Tinkers tour was good other than I found it too long. I was in the back of the van with my wife and we found it kind of bumpy and to be honest Stu could do that same tour in 2-2.5 hours and be more effective. Some of the stories he told were really cool but some of the info he shared I had different versions of via Bev/David and other experts but all in all a must do for any King fan and especially for any IT fan as the tour was very focused I found on that.

I had a LOVELY lunch with RF and his wife (whom we did the tour with as well). Really enjoyed the beer and the conversation. Thanks RF for having me and my wife along with you and your wife:) Hope we can do it again your way someday! After the tour I did a mad dash to Freeport where I met a dear friend David Williamson! His daughter is a TRUE delight if anyone here has had the pleasure of meeting this bright young lady:) Of course David is amazing and I did not want to keep him from some family time but I (and my wife LOVES listening to his stories.. which I love too!) could have taken his time up ALL night listening to all his knowledge and cool stories. A real cool guy for sure and he treated me to a birthday dinner!! Thanks David!!

The signing.... what an idiot I am. I, foolishly, put the address into my GPS while in bed half asleep.. well Bridgton is spelt.. NOT with an H!!!! As my wife and I pulled up to a grassy field in the middle of nowhere... my heart SANK! I started to sweat as we had NO cell service. I drove to the nearest farm and the farmer laughed and said we were near 3 hours away from where we want to be!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Guys n gals, it is 9:04am at this exact time. The signing is over at 12 noon:( I am a safe driver, I do not speed, I do not go through stop signs... I arrive alive. Yesterday I threw all that our the window and was doing 115-120mph. That is fast. I was passing and bobbing and weaving like Mike Tyson in his prime through the Sunday driver traffic. When service came back to the phones RF and David were called and they came through keeping me poster on the time line as King started early!!!!!!!!! They went to his handlers on my behalf and told them the story. RF was at the front of the building waiting as I shaved 37 minutes off the GPS and took the car and parked it as me and my wife made a mad dash to the ticket office to get our tickets!! When a woman needs to pee and you make her sit in the car for over 2 hours and she does not complaine cause she knows how important it is too you??? You have a keeper folks! SO.. thanks Chantal, RF and David (and daughter for constant text updates) for helping me get there.

When we got in there was only 12 people left in front of us to get a sig... and here is what I said to King.... after preparing my Jericho speech... LOL "umm... ahhh.... it is an honor to meet you" I sounded like a boy in puberty. His response.. "well it is an honor too meet you too sir!" to which I said... "but I love you". OMG... so embaressed after I said it. I back tracked and said "I mean your books!" but he was laughing so that was ok. My wife rolls up cool as a cucumber and gets him to inscribe my book AND spell my name right. He wished me a happy birthday and all was right with the world. It was amazing.

The only thing I noted (and some others) were all the people running around the building checking exits and hungry for another autograph. I was amazed as I had not seen this before (it did not happen in Florida that I saw)... and kind of felt bad for King. He did not sign anything. I feel if we were all satisfied with what we got as he was good enough to take his weekend to do this for the fans... and not attack him "greedy like" for more... he might do these more often. That was the perfect venue and it was relaxed and close to his summer home... so why not? There were even cars chasing his after he was driving away. I felt bad for him... I would hate that and I am sure he does too. He doesn't have to do this anymore and he is in his late 60's. There may be fewer and fewer times. I would like to be able to get in front of him agian and hope that "mob like" mentality we seen does not affect his willingness to do it more often OR again for that matter.

So, a great trip. It was nice to see and meet so many members. I sure wish we had more time to hang together... I really do. I love talking to all of you. Your a classy bunch of cool cats and it I look forward till we meet again.
Cheers all:)

Watching for where a celeb is going to come out of a building is sort of 'nature of the beast', but this part of the report really kind of put a damper on it for me. Once they're in their car driving away, they need to be left alone. No following, that is just fracking creepy. Now if you strategically stop at places that he is know to sometimes stop, and increase the chance of a 'random' encounter, then great, but don't be a creeper. I'm sure that was none of our TDT folks.

I'm glad you had fun, and AMAZED that you made it to the event in time! Congratulations!

Im sure this is common practice but being a "newbe" at signings... I had not witnessed it. I know it is the nature of the beast but seeing it in person was surprising I guess. Lot Guy's story is SO SWEET cause if I were to get a book signed.. THAT would be my choice. Congrats by the way Matt!

Ticketed events are definitely the way to go. None of that standing in line all night or risking no sig after making the long trip. It was much more relaxed with a lot of elderly people and kids who can't stand in line for hours. The lady in front of me told a story about being the kindergarten teacher for SKs kids and how he inscribed a book for her at the end of the school year that said something along the lines of having survived the little monsters now she could read about some.

Went to Durham and to Shilo church. ...aka the Marsten house. The Marsten House was the first King character/entity in my life to scare the F*CK out of me! I lived only about a block away from my town's version, so that's probably why it affected me so much. Salem's is still in my top 5, but the Marsten House still unsettles me FAR more than The Overlook.

Currently in Bangor, had a few hours of daylight left drove around the downtown area, wow what a creepy place, definitely reminds you of Derry. Many low areas like the Barron's, looks like it could flood easily. Looking forward to the tour with Stu Tinker tomorrow :pirate: Trevor is a little scared after seeing RF's picture of Pennywise on his tour & King saying Pennywise may still be out there.......:lol1:

This is what I got signed on Sunday! I wAnted to win the hf drawing and request this, The only thing That could of made it better was a date! I was the line photographer for the event and at the end he asked me who I wanted the book signed to, and I said I would really love to have this instead. He laughed and wrote it!

How did you end up being the line photographer???

I jumped off stage to take a picture of my wife, then some else handed me there phone, then another , then another.

fYi. Flash was not allowed It was in a theatre. Poorly lit! Image on the screen. Most people did not have good cameras! It was not the photographers fault. Is was lighting and positioning! But circumstance and opportunity treated me right!

And People literally had 12.84 seconds in front of king. 500 books. 1 hour 47 minutes. The book owners kept the line moving!

No time to focus. Sorry to everyone about pictures!

I thought it was sort of funny they had a big "Finders Keepers" cover displayed on the movie screen - not that it didn't add cool ambiance, but we were already BUYING the book - so it was sort of a strange thing to advertise.

On the other hand, if they'd had nothing up there it would have been SK on a dark, black stage...

Finally home after an unexpected overnight layover in Newark.

Really good event...of the ten I have been to, I would rank it in the top five...maybe the the top two......and I knew it would be, because I had a good omen.....I found a signed copy of Under the Dome in the bedroom of the house we rented upon our arrival (and for those of you wondering....no, I did not take it).

Everybody left with a signed copy of Finders Keepers, and the whole event lasted less than two hours. Many of us got there an hour or two before they started letting us in, and we all got to chat. Great to see many of you again, and great to meet many of you for the first time (SirBoome, Pasiuk57, Carlosdetweiler, Rahfa, East Tennesee, Phalucha and more).

Had a very nice visit with Mr. and Mrs. Carlosdetweiler the afternoon of the event back at our rental.

I ended up running into Mr. and Mrs. Pasiuk57 in the Portland airport the day after the event, turned out we were on the same flight out, and I was seated directly behind them.

The food in Bridgeton was not so good (guess I had to go to Portland for that), but other than that, and the unexpected layover in Newark, had a great time.

I stand corrected....three inscriptions, and four extras signed......6 out of 500....1.2%.

There could be more, but that is all I know of.....and if there are, it will not be many.

And they WORKED for it - so it wasn't like they were just standing around and SK volunteered to sign. They had to put themselves out there.

(or in Webstar's case, trade some stress for the good fortune)

Getting an additional item(s) signed takes planning, occasional deviousness, perseverance, luck, or, sometimes just knocking someone else aside and clawing for it.
The end justifies the means.

The rules seemed pretty clear at this event. No other books. I don't necessarily agree with that rule but it seems somewhat disrespectful to the book store folks who put this event on and King himself to smuggle books in or chase after him in the parking lot. He is snarky enough as it is with collectors without making it worse.

I must say that my wife and myself also had a really great time in Bridgton at the King signing. (We stayed in Portland) I arrived about 8 am and others started to arrive also. A line formed fast but I waited a bit and then joined in. It was great to finally meet so many people from TDT.org. People I have spoken to or emailed for years and now get to meet and talk with each other. Bad news for Tippy as he missed his flight as stated. My wife and I full out ran and were the last ones on board to Minneapolis. We had lunch and dinner with some extremely nice people, and wine at the airport in Portland also! Portland itself was AMAZING-I ate more lobster in 4 days than most of my adult life! The harbor had so much to offer. I recommend the Odyssey Whale Watch ship tour and the Wicked (Everything "good" in Maine is called WICKED!!) Walking Tour at night. VERY good tour of the city-about 1 hour + and it was very funny and really kept your interest. I recommend the city(in summer!). I know we are all after the same thing-more things King- but the people I met were very nice. I feel like I walked away with some better friends.
Would I do it again?-I sure hope to!!

Tippy4 has no intention of selling it ...even if it has no inscription.....this is the third "on the side" autograph I have obtained from King....and none of them will ever sell as long as I have my collection.

In case you're interested....the first was a signed The Wind Through The Keyhole after the RBR's final performance in Anaheim, and the second was a signed IFOA program obtained the day after the King/Hill event in Toronto.

I am not the only one that sat there watching the situation and spoke of it with other members. My memoirs are EXACTLY as I seen it with my own eyes. I am not begrudging anyone for "putting the extra effort" in but rather giving my thoughts on what I seen. There were like 6-8 people actually gathered around the door when he left. There were others hanging around as well - Bob was 'there' but he certainly wasn't chasing King. Same with RF's wife - she was just standing there. But in your mind you're probably counting them - but they was nowhere near anything. Yeah, a few people ran from one door to another - but King was nowhere around when that happened. Maybe in your mind that became a mob, but remember that quite a few people in our group and other groups were simply hanging out - there were a lot of people just there that day.

I'm just saying let's not create this myth like people were hassling King or disrespecting him, or chasing him, or that the event had any edge of chaos - it didn't. He walked out the door, quickly walked past the half-dozen people hoping for the last signature and then he left.

What happens when you tell the story the first way "Oh, why are we being rude to SK??" is that it becomes the conventional wisdom of what actually happened. It DIDN'T happen that way.

I'm not saying there weren't people hanging around, but it wasn't a mob scene and it certainly wasn't even slightly rude or disrespectful.

If I've remembered it totally wrong, then I'm the asshole - I'm perfectly happy to be contradicted. I was hanging back and I was looking at the 6-8 (maybe 10) people waiting for him because if he started signing I was going to rush over. So I was paying very close attention to what was going on, and when he quickly left I was glad that I wasn't going to have to worry about it.

There's no reason to create a myth that people were rude to anybody, disrespected anybody, chased him, caused a scene, or did anything out of the ordinary. Didn't happen. The bookstore woman put her arm out, made a lane, a few people breifly implored, King ignored, and it was over.

We can simply enjoy our signatures and respect the extra effort that a few people DID put in to get inscriptions, extra books signed, etc. It doesn't need anything more than that and it doesn't need to balloon into "that signing in Maine where somebody punched Stephen King in the face, and then kicked him and stole his car." Cause that's how these stories go if they are allowed to exaggerate without correction. Haha

I know I'm sounding like a total asshole, believe me - but I've seen these sorts of stories spin out of control before, and I've sat on the sidelines and haven't corrected it and by the time anybody does, the myth has already become reality.

(the other reason I'm being sort of a jerk about it is I feel like the earlier description of the event is kind of disrespecting me, personally - I was actually there, I was part of it, and I certainly didn't behave this way or see anyone who did...so I'm a little put out by that characterization. A couple young kids seemed the most aggressive - but they were kids, they're supposed to try hard! I know the description was not intended that way and I'm being way too overly-sensitive, but those forum members who were NOT there should not think we behaved poorly)

(I'm not trying to kill the event's buzz - my intention is the opposite, to remember that it actually went really well and was fun from start to finish)

The rules seemed pretty clear at this event. No other books. I don't necessarily agree with that rule but it seems somewhat disrespectful to the book store folks who put this event on and King himself to smuggle books in or chase after him in the parking lot. He is snarky enough as it is with collectors without making it worse.

Look - I appreciate Webstar's enthusiasm in his earlier description of the event.

But, nobody chased SK, and certainly didn't chase after his car. There were 6-8 people sort of hanging around the exit door, he quickly walked past them and drove away. Total nonevent.

Yes, TWO people brought extra books in - and because they stood around for two hours and took pictures of people, at the end SK threw them a bone. One person ran into him before the event and he signed for him too.

Those who just brought extra books - but then did nothing to get a second signature? Did not GET a second signature.

Those who did, put extra effort and did something for that extra signature.

I'm just saying that I can forsee conventional wisdom veering toward exaggerated memories, so let's rein it in. It was all very much on the up-and-up. Nobody got anything they didn't - respectfully - earn.

I will respectively beg to differ on what you seen and what I seen. 6 people? I am sorry but there was much more than that. It surprised me to see people run from one door to the other.... I am not the only one that sat there watching the situation and spoke of it with other members. My memoirs are EXACTLY as I seen it with my own eyes. I am not begrudging anyone for "putting the extra effort" in but rather giving my thoughts on what I seen. It was the first time I seen it so thus I thought it prudent to chat about given this is a forum and I wanted to share my experience and memories... sorry NOT exaggerated memories... that is for sure.

No offense, but your adrenaline was still pumping.

Like I said... I wrote about what I seen.. and in no way shape or form did I indicate that King was in any danger (punched in the face??? how is the hell would it get to that from what I said???). I think this is ridiculous that you would call me out here for stating my observations. I even stated it was the first time seeing this. So, no there was NOT 6 people there... BUT many more... and I was standing with Foster, Bob, RF's wife and my own watching it. I will enjoy the signatures we got and we got for sure, and any member that put extra effort in for another.. all the power to you. I was happy with what I got and I can assure you my eyes work just fine... I am done talking about this. I was not looking for a debate with you or anyone else on what "I thought was a little much". I am also sure this happens at every event. I still thought it was a a sight to see...

My point is that's how false stories grow - they start out exaggerated, get re-told and then RE-exaggerated...and so five years from now somebody tells the story that Webstar attacked Stephen King with a tire iron because he was five minutes late and King wouldn't sign another book.

I'm calling you out because YOU called others out - and since I didn't see it your way, I'm presenting the other side.

We agree to disagree.

The "extra effort" is simply a willingness to intentionally disregard the rules set out by King and the event organizers for selfish purposes. They did not need a self appointed photographer. I saw this person planted in the first row refusing to go through the line and exit like everyone else. He wouldn't have been allowed to linger on stage for very long. If the other 99 percent of attendees who abided by the rules brought extra books or made a nuisance of themselves these events wouldn't happen.

Okay - I made a mistake by even mentioning you...I should have been vague about who described what. It so happened you posted a (very good) recap of the event, but I was aggravated that you were describing a chaos that did not exist.

But there was no reason for me to mention your account. That would have avoided this 'thing' that this back-and-forth has become. So sorry about that.

You didn't call anybody out - you called the EVENT out. You made a claim that people chased after him, chased his car, and NONE of that happened. NONE. There was a moderate crowd of 6-8 people waiting by the door when he left. I'm sure it seemed like more because there were a lot of people hanging around - but they weren't chasing SK. They were standing around on a busy Sunday afternoon in a tourist town.

So - no, you did not mention anybody's name. But - to readers who did not attend, you implied a chaos to the event that did not exist and made us all look sort of bad. I was put out by it! But, my mistake for mentioning your post - I should have just described what I saw, which was nothing special at all.

Hell. I don't know... I was running around the building getting some much needed exercise.... All I know is, on the third lap around... King came out on the other side and I totally missed him.
It's all good though, I lost another three pounds at this event... a few more and I'll be down to that 185 I've coveted for so long.
Holding the signings at bigger buildings would assist me a lot in this endeavor.

I wasn't on the side where King exited, so I can't say what happened. I stood on the other side of the building and was drinking a cold water. I had a book and pen ready in the less likely event King came out my side. My wife was on the side where King came out and said there were several (more than 5, less than 20) people on that side. She said King declined to sign anything, walked to his car and drove away. After signing 500+ books, I could understand King declining to sign anything else.
I had no intention of harassing King, and didn't expect King to sign anything, but I was prepared in case he did. On the rare chance that King actually did sign for people, I'd have kicked myself if I didn't have a book and a pen handy.

I'd be surprised if King felt harassed and or irritated by the folks outside.

That's alright. I categorize/label myself as Paparazzi rather than stalker - Having a camera defines the difference.

How else am I supposed to get that picture of King picking his nose that I could sale for big bucks to the rag mags and pay for the 1300.00 trip to get a single signature.

Boarding the three dogs was 460.00 alone... their motel bill was more than mine. Can't ever sale my book, I'd lose to much money on the deal.

Obviously, I should never have mentioned Webstar's original post, or him by name - that's totally on me.

In my head, I was being moderately snarky but not at all serious - but I didn't pay enough attention to what I was writing see how it could be interpreted and that's totally my fault.

We each have memories of the event - and if this was someone's very first event I could see how there could be feel of 'chaos' that I wouldn't feel, since I've been to several of these...and this even was SO tame it can't even compare to the zoo that was Harvard, for example, with a group of resellers yelling at SK, and him violently waving them away. So my impression of everything, including those 6-8 people by the door, is that it was an utter nonevent that SK probably barely noticed.

My bad for not just posting my personal impressions, and it was a mistake to specifically criticize someone else's memory.

Seriously bad information on this post! I have no desire to start a fight on this sight, especially on webstars bday. He and I had a great event! We are going to keep it positive! M
Feel free to PM me and i can fill you on the facts and the fact that i was thanked by the organizers for volunteering and assisting. No intentions to disregard rules. i was an opportunist, with all due respect to Stephen King and the organizers. My efforts were fully approved and appreciated. My efforts were approved in advance. I've decided that Roseannebarr is the official "Forest Waldo" of Stephen King collectors. He's in everything and has such good karma and vibe that he gets places and does things that most of us would be thrown out for.
Congratulations to Glenn.

Now, keeping on with a positive theme; in a bit I'll post some more pictures and narrative. I didn't get home until 2am today (thanks to weather in the midwest and to President Obama landing at the Philadelphia airport) so I'm a bit behind.
I had a great time in Maine. Getting the book signed was fun, but the best parts were the socialization with Dt.org members and King fans I've never met before.
Thanks to Roseannebarr for mentioning the website to people in line. I gave out several dozen bookmarks and business cards to people. Hopefully some will come to the site, and those that do won't be turned off by a very small difference of observation.

Getting an additional item(s) signed takes planning, occasional deviousness, perseverance, luck, or, sometimes just knocking someone else aside and clawing for it.
The end justifies the means.
It's too bad that King didn't inscribe the Plant...

Had he done so, I'm sure tippy4 would never sell it...

I probably should have just said "that's a keeper".
Congratulations.

Exactly - it's all about attitude and vibe. Some people carry themselves with a good-natured personality that works its way into people because it's NOT contrived or on the make. And that was the case with Glenn at the event - yeah, he's an opportunist, and people were probably aware of that - but we create our own opportunities by how we behave, and if you're bringing something to the table then it will work.

If I were to try the same thing, it would seem sketchy and out of place, because I don't have the personality for it in that setting - it WOULD be sketchy.

Thank You RF and Rahfa! I try to live my life as open and honest as possible. I never want anyone to say i was greedy/rude/pushy. I do try to stick up for the little guy (sometimes I should just shut up, like i tried to do today) I think i learned that from my father. Just like our fearless leader RF, i try to share my spoils with members here. I learned along time ago to grab brochures, flyers, bookmarks from different events. I then share them with members here who forget to pick these things up at events. I have NEVER sold a signed Stephen King book, proof or other item. I will happily trade when i have extras! When i send out flyers, extra tickets, etc.... i do not even charge the postage. Something i learned from several members here. It appears that we have each others back. We should be happy for others successes (we can be jealous, just dont show it on these boards) THIS is my HOBBY. A HOBBY that i like to share with my friends i made on this site.

I appreciate your kind words above, it calmed me down considerably!

AWESOME STEPHEN KING EVENT! Can't wait until END OF WATCH. You can bet $1,000,000 dollars that if Bridgton Books host another event, i will be calling requesting to be their photographer again.

The only thing I noted (and some others) were all the people running around the building checking exits and hungry for another autograph. I was amazed as I had not seen this before (it did not happen in Florida that I saw)... and kind of felt bad for King. He did not sign anything.

Webstar (kris) and wifey (Chantal)

The reason people came running around the building is my fault. My wife can tell you i have a loud voice. I just came out of the building after getting my book signed by Stephen King!! I saw RF's wife waiting outside for King to appear. I said to her -- he is going out the back door......... I should of whispered it to her. Lesson learned for the next time!!!

Scratch that: I am now appointing myself Unofficial OFFICIAL photographer of all future King events.

and I'll be the official paparazzi villain... (I get all 1st rights to any SK nose-picking pics. )

NO underhanded dealings or sneakiness on my part! I AM NOT LIKE THAT!

My wife and I stopped in the bookstore before leaving Bridgton Monday afternoon. We had come in the back door and were looking at books for the Grand-kids. While we were there we heard an ear-full of conversation about the event. One of the most positive things we heard was how that guy who helped by taking pictures. We realized eventually the conversation was between Pam (bookstore owner) and who we believe was manager of the Theater. Pam was telling the story of how she was directing the line and people were asking her to take pictures. She then commented, "Thank God that guy stepped up and volunteered to help and took over doing that for everyone"

CUDOS to GLEN..... Your efforts were appreciated and I am glad you were rewarded for it.

Wow! I have been gone for 5 days and so much catching up to do. Especially neo-trinity's posts which have just blown me away. Anyway, here are some of my recollections of the signing and the trip.

My wife and I drove from Portland and arrived in Bridgton at 8:30 or so. Parked behind the bookstore and walked across the street to the Magic Lantern theater.

http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb54/carlosdetweiller/bridgton1_zpsalq5tjgq.jpg

The line was forming along the right hand side of the theater. Probably 20 to 30 people were already in line. The end of the line is only at the corner at this time.

http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb54/carlosdetweiller/bridgton2_zpso7uujzh6.jpg

The first person I saw was Randall Flagg who was coming out of line to get some photos of the front of the theater. We cut in line to be with RF and wife but no one seemed to mind. They were about 20 or so from the front of the line. For the next 90 minutes we just stood in line and tried to meet as many people as we could.

I met others after the signing and wish I had taken pictures but for some reason I didn't. east-tennesee, Rahfa, webstar1000, kingfan24, Lot-guy. Wish I had gotten more pictures!

A little before 10 they opened the doors and we were ushered into one of the theaters. Along the way we were offered blueberry doughnuts (made with Maine blueberries, I guess?) and a selection of juices. I, of course, immediately ate my doughnut but sir_boomme didn't. More on that later.

Not long after 40 or so of us were seated King walked in and crossed the stage.

http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb54/carlosdetweiller/bridgton10_zpsvka8nurq.jpg

He sat down and said something like "I suppose you are wondering why I called you all here." Pretty funny but his handlers cut him off at that point and started the signing line moving. Not sure if he would have said more or not. If so it would not have been fair to the others as there were only a few of us in the theater at that time.

http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb54/carlosdetweiller/bridgton11_zpsupkae8eo.jpg

Mrs. carlosdetweiller gets a signed book. Also you can see the "official photographer" setting up just off the stage.

http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb54/carlosdetweiller/bridgton12_zpslqadnhnd.jpg

I think I had something to say to King but I have forgotten what it was. When I walked in front of him he said "Hey, nice shirt!" I said "Thanks, Steve!" He handed me my book and I walked off. Total time with him about 5 seconds.

http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb54/carlosdetweiller/bridgton13_zpsitkozh65.jpg

sir_boomme was right behind me. I'm not quite sure about the doughnut significance. Did he get King to touch it? Breathe on it? I'm still not sure but I do think it will hit eBay soon.

http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb54/carlosdetweiller/bridgton14_zps75pmzdt7.jpg

Spent the rest of the morning outside talking to other tdt.org members.

Around 1 or so we drove to Lovell for lunch with a few members. Then Mrs. carlosdetweiller and I spent an enjoyable hour and half or so visiting with tippy4, Cook, Twisted Nadine, EXPLORER and his wife at the house they were renting.

Like I said the time with King was about 5 seconds. The real fun and memories are from meeting other like minded King fans and collectors and talking with people who understand and share your craziness.

Later, back in Portland, we had a fabulous dinner on the waterfront with Pasiuk57 and wife.

The next day we drove up Route 1 to eventually get to Bangor. More on that later.

I would have called you in portland to hook up with ya'll, but alas, I do not own a cell phone and for some ungodly reason the bed and breakfast had no phones in the rooms. First time I really wish I owned a cell... but I'm over it now. When the cell phone zombie apocalypse hits, i'll be the last man standing... and I'm taking cover in your basement.

The "Official Photographer" is rarely seen in pictures they themselves took. War and wedding photojournalists have been dealing with that forever...

still very tasty and a darn nice size portion too.

If you guys are talking about their regular bookmarks (were there special ones for this event?) i could probably get a handful or two the next time i go over if there are others who need one as part of their "total package".

Yes i did see that pic. I am only an hour or so from OOB, (spent a winter there once, $60 a week off-season rates for a two bedroom with kitchen...) but as a life-long Mainiac, most of us try to avoid OOB between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
Them What's From Away just make it to darn difficult to get around! :).

I will however keep it in mind as I didn't know about that shop. September isn't that far off!!
