Matt, can you go ahead and Pm the numbers you have to the respective parties?

Do we know if Erin is still planning to join us? There's no flight info in the last post on that topic and she hasn't visited the thread in quite a while. I hope she's still coming.

Randall Flagg

Patrick, I seem to recall she has some new job/computer access issues (I could be mistaken), but yes I hope she is coming. She hasn't been in the thread or on the site in ~2 weeks:(

Patrick and I "met" on dt.net. We then actually met for a King interview/oratory in San Francisco.
Subsequently we met for a Joe Hill reading/signing in Berkeley.

Off-topic:

Double post, but, if any of you are of the CRAZAY and want to do a DT tat, I'd be willing to contact this (http://www.getpoked.net/portfolio.html) guy and see if he'll do a group tattoo on Saturday. :D

Bring your artwork. I'm really just looking for an excuse.

Daghain
10-06-2008, 08:39 PM
Seriously, I will contact the guy and say "x number of crazy people want a tat on x date" but I need to know ASAP. I have plans for 2 or 3, so I will be in any way you look at it. If I can arrange for a few of us to do it, it would be totally cool!!

Knowing artists have to block out time for stuff like this, if I can say, Saturday afternoon you're booked would probably be okay!

oy-the-brave
10-06-2008, 08:49 PM
I had not really considered getting another, but I really kinda like the idea I am just not sure where. I can't say for sure tonight but I am at about 75% in favor right now. It would have to be afternoon as I have a show at 7:30 Saturday night.

I really can't get tattoos. I have a stupid blood condition called ITP that makes it "dangerous."

But if I could get one I'd simply get "ka" tattooed in small letters on the inside of my right wrist. When I say small I mean small.

Besides the obvious, I've also met Erin.

Matt
10-07-2008, 06:48 AM
I've met Erin...the obvious...Wiz and oy-the-brave. :excited:

Yeah I am sure, so long as they think they can work with my original, it is a rough pencil drawing. I am thinking about getting it the actual size of the original (around 3").

Daghain

Daghain
10-07-2008, 08:22 PM
I think I have settled for doing the Ka symbol as a tramp stamp. But that's today. Tomorrow may be completely different.

Are oy and I the only two crazies in on this?

Oh, and I told DBF what I was going to do and he said, "So, what are you going to get?" and, "Should I be drawing up artwork?" (Yeah right, he'll never do it. And if he does, his mom will blame me. I don't need that!)

I love that guy.

ETA: oy, when are you getting in? I can probably set us up an appointment.

oy-the-brave
10-07-2008, 09:45 PM
I have the KA symbol on my right upper arm. What is a "tramp stamp"?

I am not sure exact times I expect to get there Thursday evening and I am leaving Sunday evening or Monday morning. I will be there Friday night for the get together in Jerome's room and have a show Saturday night otherwise I am open.

Daghain
10-07-2008, 09:49 PM
Well, hell, I'm coming in Thursday as well - we could do it Friday afternoon, if you want! It's going to have to be covered the day you get it, so that would give you Saturday to show it off. :D And there's a Walgreens and a CVS on the strip (remind me to tell you the Walgreens rule!) so if we don't get any lotion type stuff from the artist we can pick some up - some artists give you a sample of what they like to use, some don't - you never know. Lotion is KEY, though - just trust me on this one.

A tramp stamp is the lower back - you know, when the girls wear the hip jeans and short shirts and you can see the lower spine - that's a tramp stamp.

oy-the-brave
10-07-2008, 10:28 PM
Ah ok, I figured it meant a specific location but was not sure where it would be .

Friday afternoon would be fine as I said I am open just need to be done in time to get toasted at Jerome's (BTW Jerome what will be needed for the soiree, what can I bring?). It is ok to drink after a TAT right (maybe even before ).

I do know about the lotion, my first tat (in CA) he said it had to be cocoa butter, the second (in NM) he said it had to be lubriderm (which I still have a bottle of).

wizardsrainbow
10-08-2008, 02:26 AM
I want a new tat, but haven't decided on what I want to do yet. But, I'd be happy to show off the only one I have now. It's not much, but I love it.

Brice

10-08-2008, 06:30 AM
Liquor stores are few and far between on the strip in Vegas. I'm bringing glasses, flutes an various other drinking glasses plus a bottle of Mescal.

I believe Jerome has intentions of liquor being there.

We're driving so if someone wants to have me bring something, let me know. We have plenty of room. :excited:

I wanted to bring a bottle of Grey Goose. Can I check that in my bag? Does anyone know?
I am flying Southwest and in the past I have checked wine/beer/spirits-but to Hawaii and Florida and Costa Rica. I presume Nevada will be ok also (if not I am screwed beacuse there aren't many good beers readily available in Nevada).

Daghain
10-08-2008, 07:46 AM
You can drink after the tattoo, oy, but not before. Most tattoo artists (at least the reputable ones) will not tattoo a person who has been drinking. Aside from the obvious 'wtf did I do last night' issues, alcohol thins you blood. :)

I'll call after work and see if we can get in on Friday. :)

alinda
10-08-2008, 07:51 AM
I am over the moon happy for you guys!! I wish I had the nerve
I would charge the trip, and just go:pullhair:responsibility!! Bah-humbug!!

Patrick
10-08-2008, 08:04 PM
Dave, I LOVE the latest Jae Lee artwork you picked up! That one that is the sketch variant cover is quite possibly my favorite of all his DT work.

Checking liquor in your bag has never been a problem. Just make sure you pack it very well - a little bubblewrap goes a long way.

In regards to liquor, I was planning to bring a bottle of tequila, but now I realize that would mean I would have to check my bag rather than carry it on. Southwest has lost my bag before going to Vegas, and I don't like to hang out waiting for baggage check anyway if I can avoid it. Given that my plane doesn't land until 4:30ish on Friday, I plan to do carry-on and hightail it in a taxi straight over to Jerome's room in the Monte Carlo. I'll ask the taxi driver if he knows a good store between the airport and the hotel, but I don't want to spend too much time having him sitting with the meter running, so that may not work. I seem to recall a few liquor stores on the Strip, so I think we'll manage in any case.

I can't wait to see what tattoos you guys get on Friday. If you go on Saturday afternoon, I may go with and just hang out to watch and keep you company. By the way, I got my tattoo in Vegas a few years ago, it didn't seem to bother anyone that I had been drinking. I just figured they expect tourists in Vegas to always be drinking while in town, so there'd be no way around it.

Daghain
10-08-2008, 08:44 PM
Yep, plans are in the works. And if you can help me out in the I Need Help thread, that would be cool, too. *hint hint* :D

sarah
10-08-2008, 09:03 PM
Ok, sarajean talked with Erin this week. She said that she'll know for sure by the end of the week if she can still come or not. **fingers crossed**

I also want to come to the tattoo parlor and watch it done. however, I won't get to Vegas until 3pm. Let me know what time you end up going so I can stalk er follow er hang out with you.

Daghain
10-08-2008, 09:12 PM
LOL! If it goes according to my plan, it will be early enough Friday so that we can easily make RF's shindig. I'm hoping DBF will come photograph it all, but from the looks of this place it's all private rooms, so we'll see. I don't want a nervous tattoo artist!

Still torn between an Unfound tramp stamp and Ka on the right shoulderblade. Hmmm.

But, we can certainly have the grand unveiling on Saturday!

Facts tomorrow!

sarah
10-08-2008, 09:16 PM

Daghain
10-08-2008, 09:32 PM
I'm still looking for decent tattoo artwork. :panic:

Can you believe you can't find jack shit in a Google search? Damn! I put the hunt out in the I need help thread - I found one good Ka symbol I could use, but Unfound is...well, unfound. Still vascillating; if I get a good Unfound symbol that may be my new tramp stamp.

oy-the-brave
10-08-2008, 09:56 PM
Definately want to make sure we get in for the tattoo early enought to be at Jerome's on time, I had not heard is 5:00 the official time?

Does anyone know if rum ages well? I have a bottle of rum I got in Jamaica around 20 years ago, still good?, hopefully better, let me know it has been waiting a long time for a good occasion :nana:

Daghain
10-08-2008, 10:03 PM
Well, I just emailed my airline (small local) and the 3oz. rule for carry on is in effect. I'll have to hit a liquor store somewhere.

Oy, I have an email in to the owner (found his mice pace) and if I don't hear tomorrow I'll call when I get off work - he looks *really* good and I think we'll be fine with an early Friday appointment. Cross your fingers!

Also, I did tell him we could email artwork, so he can be prepared. Is the Oy you posted the one you want? If he asks for it I'd like to make sure he has what he needs - it will give him a better idea of how much time he needs to finish the job.

Also, the guy who owns the shop with him has apparently won several awards in the tattoo industry. :panic:

ETA: This guy does a LOT of the Hispanic "letter" tattoos - I am now thinking I will let him do a tramp stamp of the Unfound symbol, because I think his particular skillz will make it look really, really good. :D

oy-the-brave
10-08-2008, 10:20 PM
Yeah that is the Oy I want although it is a rough pencil sketch (by Michael Whelan) so it will need to be cleaned up a bit by the tattoo artist. If he can work with a scan great but I plan to bring the original too.

I can't believe how close this is getting :excited:

Daghain
10-08-2008, 11:00 PM
I have found his email (and I'll call tomorrow if I don't hear from him) but I'd like to give him a "heads up" as much as I can. I told him I can forward preliminary artwork - if I get his email addy I'll put you in touch with him so you two can hammer out the finer points. :D

I'm still between a Ka symbol on my right shoulder or an Unfound symbol as a tramp stamp.

Double post: Oy, first artist crapped out, but I have a good alternate! Just sent him our artwork and he is free Friday! Samples!

http://pairadicetattoo.com/Gallery/BrettsPort

That first one sold me completely. He's free Friday, I'm just setting up an appointment now. He seems really nice and the parlor has excellent reviews, and it's walking distance from the strip. Not overly expensive, either!

I told him we were cool for waiting for each other, and that we needed to be done before 5pm. Should be good!

Daghain, if you need a back-up, Sin City Tattoo is supposed to be pretty popular. Wish I were arriving earlier on Friday, I'd go with you too.

That's my next job. I have no idea what Jae's availability will be. Obviously, I will try to coordinate so that we can have maximum attendance when he joins the group. I need to look at the arrival and departure schedules to see what might make sense.

Intuitively, Saturday should be the best bet as everyone will be there by then (I recall some arrivals on Friday evening). What I do not have a sense for is if on Saturday, what would be the best time(s), as some people may do day trips on Saturday, shows Saturday night etc. I would like to propose 2 or more times to Jae, but there is no guarantee I will hear back prior to next weekend. He gets TOTALLY immersed in his work and doesn't correspond for weeks at a time sometimes.

So, I think we need to make a plan for 2-3 times to offer to him, but I really think it will happen on the fly. I just hope with cell phone numbers we can be in contact with each other and regroup fairly quickly if we need to. I would sure hate for anyone to miss the opportunity to meet him. He really is quite a nice guy.

So, I would welcome input from the group as to when/where might be good to meet Jae.

I have been telling those that have asked me this...bring whatever you want signed along if it isn't too much trouble. I have no idea if he will be willing to sit a spell and sign a whole bunch of stuff or now (well I am nearly certain he will be willing to sign some things, but if we present 60 items, that I cannot tell you). So, bring em' and if he signs them, hooray, if not then at least you came prepared.

I will let Jae know that there are some serious collectors that would love their stuff signed and try to feel him out. Will let all of you know if a get a sense for that.

What would be best to bring? Comics, Variants, the hardcover omnibus?
Suggestions.

P.S. Perhaps each person who wants something(s) signed could submit 2-4 items each and as everyone gets something signed if Jae is willing we could the start the submissions agian with each person then having their choice of the next 2-4 items signed.
When Jae quits signing, at least it would seem that everyone got something signed.

Awesome news about Jae visiting with us!

Given that most people are coming at various times throughout Friday, and a couple people will be off getting tattoos that afternoon, I recommend that we meet up with Jae either:
- Friday night if he wants to join us for the evening party; and/or
- anytime he'd like on Saturday before some people head out to their evening shows.

Regarding getting items signed, we will be a manageable group, so I'm sure we can just take turns getting things signed like Jerome suggested (2-4 per person in rounds or whatever). I recommend that we play it by ear based on what Jae feels like doing.

Personally I'll probably bring my sketch variants from the first arc and the hardcover from the first two arcs. (I never got on eBay to obtain the later sketch variants.)

I would guess that Jae would expect big fans to want some items signed and His normal crowd would be hundreds so I think we will be ok getting a few things signed. Of course He may have limited time, or be behind and not want to tire his hands, who knows I will be prepared to accept whatever happens.

I think I have my stuff covered. Matt is brining stemware, and as long as Southwest doesn't damage/lose my boxes, I'll be fine for beer and wine!

BTW, anyone heard from Erin?

Makes sense to me. When I went to CA on a business trip I was the only one not wearing a coat, because to me it felt hot - but to them 60+ was cold. I guess that's what sucks about living somewhere where the weather doesn't change as much from season to season.

Too bad Vegas is so far. Still, I am getting to attend Screamfest since it's only a 7 hour drive and I'm attending with two other horror freaks. One of my fellow attendees is the friend who is (still) reading DT7.

However, with a bit of luck I will get to meet Malcolm McDowell and Tom Savini and Doug Bradley or even Ken Foree and Angus Scrimm. Plus, as turtlesong pointed out, maybe Christine will eat Corey Haim.

Have a great time, Woofer. We'll raise a toast to you and all the other TDT.com'ers.

Love that weather forecast, Jerome. No need to bring a coat.

Regarding lodgings: Judging by the last couple weekends, on Friday their website lowers the room prices considerably to attract last minute guests, so I'll check from the office Friday morning. But there's no guarantee that that will happen this weekend - especially not if they have any big corporate or social events going on (TDT.com Gathering not withstanding).

Hey everyone! Sorry i've been super scarace lately, for awhile work had blocked this site, but I got my IT friend to get it back for me (mwahahaha). I also have been working for the past 2 months on a HUGE presentation that I actually give and will be finished with tomorrow! Woot! Oh and I don't currently have internet at home anymore because i'm broke as a joke.

Anyhoo, several months ago I broke up suddenly and surprisingly with my live-in boyfriend. He moved out and I've been fronting all the bills myself, something I hadn't done for years. I got really behind as I was just starting my new job and it took me awhile to get caught back up. I'm almost there, but unfortunatley, right at the moment, I can't afford a $600 plane ticket to Vegas. :( If the trip wern't for another month and a half, i'd so be able to go, but the last of my unpaid bills is due this month. :( Bad timing.

I'm so disappointed as I was dying to go and thought for sure 100% I'd be able to. Anyways, I hope everyone has a blast and take a billion and 10 pictures for me to see! Oh, and i'll be around a lot more often after the next 2 days when i'm done with my project.

Somewhere upthread, Jerome I think mentioned that there is a lack of good local brews in Vegas. I am a brew kinda guy as opposed to hard liquor (never touch the stuff; ask me why when it is my turn in the spotlight), so was wondering if someone could recommend any regional brews that I can bring/try at our gathering.

I believe Jerome is bringing some of his favorite local brew. At least, he is having me buy beer glasses to go along with the rest of the stemware.

I'm not sure what is good as I'm not much of a beer guy but with Patrick and Jerome there, we should be able to come up with something for sure.

Hi David. Let's do Friday night. Anytime works for me. I'd be more than happy to sign books. I can sign your books too during the get-together. I won't be able to stay long though. Maybe just an hour. Unfortunately I have issue 3 due on monday and I'm rushing to get that done right now so I won't be able to do any gambling afterwards.
