Only four for me: A Night at the Opera (Marx Brothers at their ultimate best), Amélie, Dead Alive, and Ruthless People.

I'm not sure I'm voting for anything in this bracket. Maybe Ruthless People...

Amelie

Tropic Thunder

I used to dislike Tropic Thunder, but I've come around.

A Night at the Opera
What's Up, Doc?
The Return of the Pink Panther
Napoleon Dynamite
Tropic Thunder

I've already decided against voting Ruthless People or Dead Alive and I haven't seen Amélie but I could go either way on Clueless or Superbad. What should I do?

Clueless. It's one of my favorites from my childhood. I find it endlessly watchable, especially with the alternate endings. I love Superbad too, but it hasn't paid its dues yet.

Superbad
Tropic Thunder

A lot of films in here I haven't seen. Always wanted to see Amelie though.

The polls are open for a week so you guys don't have to vote right away but try seeking a movie out first that catches your interest and then make your picks. Lots of them are on Netflix and other options.

Ruthless People for sure. Extremely funny with a fiendishly clever plot. Sure, it's based on The Ransom of Red Chief, but clever in its own right. Great scenes and great lines ("This very well could be the stupidest person on the face of the earth...").

Ditto for Tropic Thunder. My God that was funny.

I also voted for Amelie, even though I consider it a whimsical romantic fantasy rather than a "comedy," but I did really like it.

And The Return of the Pink Panther. Kaaaaa-to!

I got no time or I would. I probably won't end up checking out some of these films I haven't seen until we get down the nitty gritty.

Clueless doesn't have alternate endings. That's the teen comedy with Alicia Silverstone. You're thinking of "Clue" with Tim Curry.

Dead Alive not doing better is kinda shocking. Also, the third Pink Panther movie is good and I understand why it's getting votes, but the first two in the series are much better, I think.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I woke up at 3 in the morning because I couldn't sleep and was going through the polls. I couldn't find Clue and then it dawned on me that I voted for Clueless. I even wrote Clueless. I was just reading too fast and saw Clue and wrote about Clue but my fingers had other plans. Oh, well. I don't hate Clueless, but it's certainly not a favorite of mine. My mom loves Clueless, so I guess that one is for her. Brain fart.

Rest assured, I know the difference between Clue and Clueless. I still have the original poster from my parents store.

No, that's okay. Like I said, my mom loves that movie and if she somehow finds out I didn't vote for it, she'd be pissed. Thanks though. Also, I did like Clueless. It's also the first time I ever saw Paul Rudd and Donald Faison in something. Rudd is still a favorite of mine 20 years (holy shit it's been 20 years since Clueless) later.

Booty Sweat drink! and Bust a Nut bars!

I loved so much of that movie. That little Vietnamese(?) kid. "You Simple Jack! You make more funny!" Kicks him--BAM.

The part where Robert Downey, Jr. is trying to get by on his limited Mandarin--the subtitles had me in stitches.

Sure.

Hang on a moment, that's not right. A vote cast is a vote cast. I can almost understand that Still Servant could have wanted to change his vote because it was essentially made in accident, but asking to cancel a vote purely to save another film is just not on. You'll get everyone wanting to cancel their votes to save a film of their choice.

To cancel a vote so close to the poll closing is just not fair to those voting fairly.

If Still Servant hadn't made his mistake, I might not have gotten talked into it, and this at most still gets a tiebreaker thread.
We can wait until polls are about to close, anyway, if we want an extra chance to be selective.

You chose Clueless. You voted for Clueless. You should stick with Clueless.

I didn't see you asking to cancel your vote a few days ago when everything was still up in the air. Now that the poll closes in less than hour you want to cancel your vote to save A Night at the Opera. It's just not on!!!

pathoftheturtle
03-04-2015, 05:54 AM
This is also not the first time we've talked about the possibility of changes on different votes, though. I had kind of hoped sometime the last few days I would get more feedback. That's what I asked for. I don't want to be unfair. However, I'm not sure it is fair for me to be locked in on a movie that I just liked a little.

T-Dogz_AK47
03-04-2015, 06:01 AM

Tropic Thunder (2008) 55.56%

Hmmm, Dead Alive really should have made it on. I highly urge all of you who haven't seen it to do so.

As for rescinding votes, I don't think it's fair either unless you make an honest mistake when clicking what ones you pick. It could just lead to too much chaos, and everyone wanting to change their votes.

You guys have got to stop taking it so seriously when a film doesn't get through. It's not that people are saying A Night at the Opera is a bad film. It's just that people haven't seen it. It's really that simple. Napoleon Dynamite is a recent film that is a lot easier to find to watch.

The best part of this tournament is that it will make more people aware of these films so they can track them down.

pathoftheturtle
03-04-2015, 04:01 PM
That's my fault, guys. Sorry about that. No, dude, it was pablo's decision. That's how that works; when you take responsibility, you're supposed to have guts.

It could just lead to too much chaos, and everyone wanting to change their votes.I don't think so, really. Only applies when someone really likes a movie or doesn't really like a movie. Pretty simple, actually, and not so much petty or irrelevant as just what we're trying to determine.

The best part of this tournament is that it will make more people aware of these films so they can track them down.Right, so Night at the Opera is the second-best Marx Brothers movie. Check out the clip pablo shared at the top of the last page. LOLs!
What's Up, Doc? is one of the best of the 70s featuring many bits in tribute to earlier classics, so a great way to get a feel for two eras of comedy at once. Tune in and be entertained.
