RIDE 'EM ON DOWN, The Rolling Stones 10" single, sent for 2 versions from 2 different sources on Amazon, but received identical discs, and am still trying to straighten it out. One was $10 more than the other. Whatever the problem, I'm still keeping both of them and may even (GASP!), slit the shrinkwrap and PLAY one of them!

If anyone's interested in Jethro Tull, they are releasing their first studio album in 18 years on January 28, 2022, called THE ZEALOT GENE, a Bible themed disc, available in various formats of Blu-Ray, CD and LP.
I think Amazon will be carrying all the formats, and if not Udiscover Music will probably be able to fill in the gaps.

The new Tull is available is so many different formats in the UK and the USA, with black vinyl, red vinyl, CD, Blu-ray, etc., that I lost count, most of the UK sets seem to be sold out already. I ordered a bunch of them before I got dizzy and gave up. I can't wait to see my next credit card bill.

Howsomewhatnevertheless, the following is a 45RPM VINYL single, the BLACK FRIDAY Limited Edition of the unreleased (but is IS released, I'm holding it) original demo of "No Time to Die" on Side B. Side A is the same tune live from the Brits Awards (never heard of them until now).
I hope this is a good tune, since I have not heard it yet.
Now that I have the Blu-Ray I can finally watch the movie and hear the music (after my brother is done with it, that is).
VERY hard to take a picture of this, the black is just a huge glare every time I use the flash.

The double vinyl set comes with a 7" single containing two songs not on the album, which I'll probably never hear since I don't plan on opening it.
What worries me is that this came in a very flimsy plastic bag instead of Amazon's usual flimsy cardboard box, although all was in great shape. There is probably a cardboard shortage. If my merchandise from Amazon starts arriving damaged because of this I'll just send it back!

Speaking of album art, I have pieces done by, Roger Dean of, YES, Uriah Heep and ASIA fame. I also have quite a few pieces by, Ron Wood of the Stones. 2 are his interpetations of cover art for, Eric Clapton, "Crossroads" and "Unplugged" as well as other pieces. I don't know if it's germane here but I could post pics if you all like.


EDIT: Two of the Roger Dean pieces are the a;bum art for "Tales from Topographical Oceans" and the "Yes Logo".

My understanding is that it doesn't start flashing until you start it (mine wasn't flashing and I didn't try to get it going; I remember the original Pulse and it was pretty irritating).

Seriously though, I know nothing about TOOL's music, who would you compare it to?

I'm not sure who to compare them to; of all the bands I love, they sound the most like themselves and the least like anyone else.

Those who don't like Tool (or other loud rock) might find them frightening and "evil" sounding (especially with some anti-Christian lyrics), but they aren't Satanist or anything like that (the lyricist has a low opinion of Christianity in part because his mother (a devoted Christian) suffered for the last 28 years or her life after having had a stroke, causing him to consider her faith to have been misplaced etc.).

I'd say the lyrics may be seen as positive in the sense that they often complain about negative things (so, a down vibe from a good person), but this is a simplification. Some songs are about random topics: Stinkfist is about, well, you can guess; The Grudge is about why you shouldn't hold one; 46 & 2 is about genetic mutation; Prison Sex (with the grossest line I've ever heard sung) is about just that...

I don't consider them my favorite band, but when I think about it, I don't know why; I think they're amazing.

I've seen them twice; hands down, the best non-Pink Floyd shows I've ever seen.

I don't know what half speed means, I just copied it from the site, I suppose I could look it up. Something to do with the groovy grooves I suppose. There is a clear vinyl version of the same title I still need to order.

My father used to work in the Oldbru brewery many, many years ago (I'm guessing in the 1930s) and that's one of two surviving empty bottles we have (my brother has the other). The label is extremely fragile. I think it's (hic!) worth a lot of money, maybe as high as $32.98. In my entire life I've maybe drunk a half a bottle of beer. Never liked the stuff.

Sorry, but I fucking HATE this band!!!! I don't find ANY of their tracks remotely redeeming. I also hate how everyone fawns iver, Neil Pert as such the Penultimate drummers!! Ever heard of, Carl Palmer? lol I don't really have a valid basis for this hate just turn the station if they should come up in the FM/Satellite playlist. I think It is difficult to compare drummers from different eras. Drum kits have changed so much in the last 70 years. You look at the kits played by Buddy Rich, Ringo Starr, and Keith Moon, compared to today’s setups and wonder if modern drummers could play as well on those older kits.

Neil Peart was different in a few ways. He didn’t just “play drums”. His setup was made up of so many different types of percussion instruments. Watching him move from drum to wood block to chimes to whatever else he had back there was simply amazing. On top of that, he wrote the lyrics for Rush, so his contributions to the band were that much more important. He was definitely one of the best of all time.

One last thing…I remember seeing Yes on the Big Generator tour in college. Only half the arena was filled, about 4000 fans. They decided that since we showed up to see them, they would give us a show. Must have played for over three hours. Great memories….

Have you ever listened to, ELP and Carl Palmer? Palmer, played his kit like no other drummer around (His era coincides with, Pert I believe ). He is so amazing he actually was part of the melody at times. try "Karn-rvil No. 0" on their live album, "Welcome back my friends". of course, as you state that is JMHO as a former drummer.

kits have evolved since the days of, Moon (and his drums filled with goldfish!! LOL), Starr and Baker for sure. One of the main innovations added is the electronic drums now featured by many drummers. It's a different sound and level of integration and innovation is increased but, as Moon once sais when asked how many drums were in his kit. "As many as I can hit". At some point traditional or electronic it boils down to how many you can effectively hit!! lol lol

Edit: Of course, ELP didn't enjoy the same level of popularity that, RUSH did. Hence the "dis" to, Carl Palmer and nod to, Neil Pert.

All I can say about that is I have many, many BLONDIE records and CDs and zero by QUEEN, although I do like some of QUEEN's songs.
I think the playing of certain QUEEN tunes over and over and over and over on the radio while I was at work kind of soured them a bit on me over the years.
I did highly enjoy the movie BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY, which I think I saw in Dolby Atmos back when I used to go to the movies (ah, I really miss those days!), and bought the Blu-Ray afterwards.
Maybe one day I'll purchase a QUEEN's Greatest Hits compilation.

Back in September I ordered, from Amazon, the SKYFALL limited edition silver-colored vinyl set.
They sent me an e-mail saying it was delayed until 2023, did I still want it?
I said "yes."
Today, 12-21-22, I received a box from Amazon with a sealed record sleeve inside, the label from the manufacturer saying it was the SKYFALL set, and an e-mail from Amazon saying my SKYFALL album had been delivered.
The picture shows what was in the box, a 4 disc set that costs more than $30 than the SKYFALL set.
I tried to contact Amazon, but they said they are having 'technical difficulties'.
I looked at the SKYFALL set again and it has been discounted about $15 less than I originally paid for it. I ordered another one.
I also say, screw it! I'm keeping the INTERSTELLAR set! I've had enough of this kind of thing happening.
Now I wait to see what I get from the new order!

This has some sentimental value to me too. My cousin's husband bought it for my birthday in 1970, before they were even married and I was still living with my parents! He died tragically young, and was a really great guy!

Jethro Tull has a new one coming out in April, RökFlöte, in numerous, 5 or 7 (haven't quite figured it out yet), formats, including red, clear and black vinyl, Blu-ray and CD. 12 tracks, many iterations. So far I've pre-ordered four of them from Amazon, the only one I'm sure of is the CD.

EDIT - I've just found out there will be a blue and green and who knows what other color vinyl. I don't know whether to throw my hands up in despair and just forget the whole thing or try to find out where to buy them all!

EDIT #2 (though I doubt if anyone cares), I found the blue, green and clear vinyl and ordered them all, I think I'm nuts. The clear vinyl is available to indie record store owners if anyone is interested.

A couple of John Lennon Record Store Day discs, one from 2014 (I think) and one from this year, the nine-disc EP set of GIMME SOME TRUTH on white vinyl, 1500 made. Pricey, but I HAD to have one! 12 month payment plan with very little interest so I went for it. I wonder why I'm always broke, I can't figure it out!

Quicksand Slip 30th Anniversary with book, I like the Book format a lot.
The Animals Retrospective, I'm not sure when this was released on vinyl but it's fantastic.
Finally Phish released Farmhouse. I don't really care about colors but I really like this Northern Lights swirl. Nice little bonus 7" with Driver on it is cool.

Oh man ... a lesson I learned the hard way. Sealed doesn't mean mint. Source: my Metallica "...And Justice for All" box set. Records themselves can still move inside the cover and cause rips/seam splits. I'm planning on leaving it to my daughter when I shuffle off to hopefully greener pastures but if I were to sell it, it'd be VG. It's out of print and it can't be replaced. I'd feel kinda crummy anyway, it's not like the seller could know about the damage anyway.

So these days unless I have no other option, I buy from online stores specializing in vinyl (they're all on discogs). They open the records for you to inspect for damage, and then put the record in an archival sleeve (my go to is Mobile Fidelity aka Mo-Fii). That goes outside the cover but still in the plastic sleeve.

Think about how Camelot ships their books vs how publishers ship their books. Tony and Kim inspect the books and slap mylar covers on vs a publisher sends you a sealed book but then it's a guessing game if it's really mint or not. And don't get me started on Amazon and their so-called packing, yeesh.

Sorry, I like to rant about records.

Chuck/recycle those cheapo paper sleeves. They WILL scratch your records (causing "surface marks") or in the worst case, the really cheap acidic paper will degrade the vinyl).

I cut out the hype sticker and put it inside the outer sleeve . By Mo-Fi, of course. If I see archival sleeves in the listing, I know the seller looked after his records. It's a tell.
