I know there is a guy who is self-publishing his excrement as Stephen King (not the Stephen King) and those stories are easy to spot because covers are usually crap and stories don't seem like something King would write.

If this is not Uncle Steve, how is this legal?

It's not illegal to have the same name as an existing published author. What is complete crap however is that Amazon makes no distinction between this and the 'real' Stephen King. If you click on the authors name link, you see all of SK's books. Poor form on Amazon's part IMHO.

Amazon claims they can't do anything about this -- that their automated system links the author name to King's.

It's not "wrong" from amazon, as it's done automatically based on the author's name.

However, I DO wonder if it couldn't be "our" Steve, as the ebook/kindle single will be done by amazon publishing and not by createspace.
If you look at the link / search for Stephen King, it includes 2 books that we do not know to be our Steve, and to be released in january 2015. The others, are all the real deal?

It's probably not him, but it would deserve to be confirmed by Marsha...

It's confirmed by Marsha, but you only have to read the free sample to confirm it for yourself. It's terrible.

As an IT professional amazon's excuse is a load of crap. A better answer would be to state that the system does not currently allow the to correct this and they will be fixing that. I hate it when people build systems and then blame the system for their design flaws.

I think I'll change my name to Stephen King and sell the stories I wrote that were rejected by IMC 2015...

Nothing to stop you publishing them yourself, as IMC 2015 is now defunct.

He's not the only one who does this. Very irritating.

It is just Amazon.com trying to make more money off of us.
