Sorry to hear Bill. And sure you can say Hi Mom.... My mother loves to look at this thread and follow my collecting madness...She was there at the start, and helped pay for my 1st edition of Carrie in the late 80s!

Here's the rest of the promo items. There's still some bookmarks, buttons and posters, etc. may get to that at some point.

This first item is unfortunately a little beat up. It survived though after many moves over the past 25+ years. I got this direct from the publisher at the time of the book's release. It was for the UK paperback of Misery. I can't find my copy, so I just put the US one there for size.

So I don't know if this is supposed to be a secret, but I'd sure like to thank whoever sent it! This arrived today and I don't know who it's from. There were also some bookmarks for a Kazuo Ishiguro book. I know I never ordered it from anywhere, so I'm guessing it's some sort of gift from a book fairy!? If it's from someone on the boards, identify yourself so I can say thank you!!

Thanks. From what I read in the proof thread there are 9 known copies in collectors hands. I don't know how scarce this one will be but I haven't seen any show up on eBay yet. So maybe this one is more scarce. Time will tell.

Edit: I would go by John's assessment then as he has more experience collecting proofs than I do.

So I've spent the entire day putting together bookcases and re-arranging my shelves. Thank goodness for power drills and stud finders.... That drill made the work so much easier...

Anyway, I purchased 4 extra bookcases so I can finally get a bunch of books (mostly non-King) out of boxes and on shelves... And I also took the opportunity to re-organize the King collection. Just got done putting together the last bookcase which will be for my collection of King paperbacks.

I'll post some pics in the next few days.

There are tons of choices out there. Obviously make sure one end is in stud, and the other is properly attached to the case. Very inexpensive and easy to do.

Yup, thanks. I haven't seen this one in particular, but the other velcro one for the top of the bookcase I'm familiar with. I ended up using a bracket where one end is fixed to the wall stud and the other to the top of the case. It holds it back securely.

Okay here's some pics showing the books I've just put up. Most of these have been in boxes for the past 20 odd years. These bookcases are the sames ones I had before which were used for my King collection, but I got some different ones to replace these for the King books which I'll post later.

Apologies for the poor photography on some of these.

Basically there's 3 bookcases:

Yeah, I like those too. Happy to have them on shelves after all the years in a box.

Thanks Jon. These are actually the old bookcases that were used for my King collection, but I got some new ones for that. Nothing fancy, just simple pine shelving. I'll be posting some pics of those soon.

Great! There's an intrinsic (does this word exist in English?) beauty to those neat rows of books, isn't there? Love it.

And lastly, this is my newly re-shelved and reorganized king collection.

No major changes. Different bookcases of course. Really simple pine cases, which is what I wanted. Also with better use of shelf height. The previous ones were configured in such a way that it wasn't possible to make all shelves fit a standard height hardcover, so I had to put books in places I didn't really want them just because they were shorter.

Anyway, these are better and I've re-organized many of the books. All 1st editions are now together with variants, where I have them. There's more space for proofs as that collection is growing and since I've started to slowly build a collection of signed 1st editions, I have a shelf for those now too.

And finally, my paperback collection. Still many missing, but maybe that's a good thing. I'd have nowhere to put them. I already filled this 8 shelf bookcase... I'll take some close ups, or individual shots of some of these soon. Included here are 1st printings, movie tie-ins and also other reprints that I felt were worth displaying, either for sentimental reasons, or just early editions with covers that I like.

What's the story on those paperbacks on the 3rd shelf up from the bottom all the way to the right? I saw a Pet Sematary from that series at a used bookstore but it was pretty beat up so I didn't get it. I had never seen them before. Is it just another release series?

Very nice paperback collection! Most of them are arranged by title, you can also arrange them by art/serie :)

Do you have the ISBN numbers for these books? They are very interesting for my DT collection 8)

- TWTTK Gallery Books paperback, the larger of the two
- Road to the Dark Tower, the left one with the white symbol on the spine
- Turtleback Books Gunslinger

Also, what's the difference between all those older Plume DT books?

Yeah I've been trying to build a 1st printing US and UK paperback collection like the 1st hardcovers but finding some of these in fine or unread condition is more challenging than the hardcovers. Thanks Meagan... Yeah, that's a series of paperback reprints from Pocket Books. As far as I know there was only 4 done in that style. Carrie, 'Salem's Lot, The Shining and Pet Sematary. If there were more, I don't know about it.

All of these are first printings for this series, with a full numberline staring at 1. I'm missing Pet Sematary though. I haven't been able to find one in new condition and with the 1st printing. I haven't actually been looking much lately. I had an opportunity to buy one a few months ago but at the time I wanted to bid, my eBay app malfunctioned and I lost out on it. Thanks Rogier... Yes, believe me, I went back and forth about whether to keep certain series together or arrange by date published/title. I've kept some series together as you can see, but for the Hodder ones, I decided to go the other way. Although those look great together as you well know.

Here's the ISBN's for the ones you asked about and I also took some pics.

- TWTTK Gallery Books paperback, the larger of the two (978-1-4516-5891-0)
- Road to the Dark Tower, the left one with the white symbol on the spine (0-451-21304-1) - BTW, this is a 1st printing, 1st impression. The other one with a different logo for NAL is a 3rd impression.
- Turtleback Books Gunslinger (0-613-66970-3)

The older Plume DT books you asked about, I'm guessing it's the Gunslinger and Waste Lands books? The three Gunslinger books are Turtleback, regular TP edition, and then a book club edition with no barcode or price. The Waste Lands are just the two different covers on each.

Three paperback versions on this one.

Regarding the Australian edition, I don't think the one I have with the red G was for the Australian market, but of course I could be wrong. Shouldn't there be some sort of indication of that, like an Australian price, or something printed on the copyright page? Also, don't Australian editions always have the same cover art as the UK editions?

Okay, so I went to a B&N and there were no red Gallery logo copies of TWTTK. All they had was the other smaller TP with the darker lettering on the cover and the grey logo on the spine. It's odd. I looked up the ISBN on Amazon as well, and the grey logo version is what shows up. So I have no idea what this red one was all about. Maybe it came out before the others and sold through then they produced the other two versions.

The 1st time was to find the "bookstore" REVIVAL, which I became aware of from this thread and lo and behold I bought two copies. The 2nd time was today, on the very slim chance I would find at least one copy of the red letter logo WTTK, and guess what? They had one! 1st printing and everything. My brother was with me and he thought I was crazy for my enthusiasm for this find (although he wisely kept his opinion to himself). I told him it would bug me continuously until I found a copy of this book, and for once luck or whatever was with me. Thanks Mr. zelig, you have never steered me wrong!

Congratulations, Steve!

Since we're on the topic, here's another one I found recently. I'd never seen the version of Joyland on the left with the "#1 New York Times Bestseller!" line at the top.

Should be relatively easy to find at B&N or other bookstore.

Today I went to visit Barnes & Noble, only the 2nd time in about 5 years. Congrats, Steve! :D That was a lucky moment!

Very strange. Maybe you got some special item :P
Thanks for looking anyway!

No problem... And based on what Steve just posted, I will try to pop into another B&N location for you to see if I can find a copy.

Very very much appreciated!!

The one with the "#1 New York Times Bestseller!" line at the top is the second printing. It corrects some minor errors in the first printing.

So Rogier, I have some good news! I found a copy of the book for you! Persistence has paid off. I went to two other B&N stores today, and the 2nd one had one copy on the shelf. I have it for you. Send me a PM and we'll work out details.

That JOYLAND fooled me too. Every copy says printed June 2013, including the Australian edition. There is no indication it's a 2nd printing, or at least none that I can see.

Yeah, it's not easy to tell subsequent printing on HCC books as they don't indicate this on the copyright page. If I remember correctly, for Colorado Kid, it was a number on the barcode used to determine if it's a 1st printing.

Steve, I think you're getting yours from Amazon UK? That's where this one came from, and I wasn't completely happy with the condition, so I'm going to get another copy.

Hopefully yours arrives in satisfactory condition for you. Usually I haven't had an issue with new UK paperbacks from Amazon, but this one had some shelf wear and a corner was bent.

I haven't posted anything new for some time as I haven't been buying much. But I've accumulated a few new proofs over the past couple of months which I haven't posted yet. So here's what's new.

I posted this one in P&J and Proofs, but not here yet.

And finally, the Finders Keepers broadside

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c330/zelig7/IMG_3800_zpsk3fagizg.jpg

I also wanted to post this. I've had books stored in boxes for about 20 years. I finally got them all opened and put the books in bookcases. As I was going through the boxes I found some items which I had completely forgotten about, so when I came across them it was a complete surprise. Here's a few.

Old catalogs, mostly Time Tunnel

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c330/zelig7/IMG_3472_zpszegb8jdp.jpg

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c330/zelig7/IMG_3474_zpswjecttiy.jpg

Some random books. Two of these I bought about a year ago, without realizing I already had them!

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c330/zelig7/IMG_3475_zps6tfmdrlj.jpg

Bently Little UK proof

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c330/zelig7/IMG_3636_zpskmverogz.jpg

I remember I had this book, but thought I might have sold it at some point because I could never find it. Then I discovered it in one of the boxes.

Yes on the Carrie, although it's more like a purple color than green. It's the one with the intro by Tabitha King and part of a series.

These first two are thanks to Jon. A 1st printing trade paperback reprint of Thinner.

UK 700 copy limited of Doctor Sleep. The best part was the price. I don't remember, but it was somewhere between $20 and $30!

And these, thanks Alan, Mr. Rabbit Trick.

It's hard to tell if some of these newer reprints will restart the number line. Or in this case, there's no line of numbers just the single number "1". I'm sure there's a bunch we've missed Steve, and I guess you can take your chances ordering from Amazon UK. But it's best to have someone in the UK check the book physically at the bookstore. Right now, from what I've heard there aren't many 1st printing/impression paperback reprints still on the shelves.

I thought DUMA KEY had some great moments and some not so great. But all in all it was more than satisfactory.
11-22-63 is probably in my top 10 favorite King books.

Well, to each his own, right?

11/22/63 brought me "back to the family" after just about dropping away after UTD, and the few years prior to that which simply quite mediocre to me. I was so far down on SK that I passed on the Dallas event for 11/22/63 and I LIVE here! (I'm really kicking myself for that now, but I've really enjoyed every novel since then.)

I agree there guys. 11/22/63 is for sure one of my favorite King books. TCCBodhi, good to hear it brought you back to the fold and I also wasn't a big fan of UTD, although I did finish it. As soon as I finish what I'm reading now, I'm on to Finders Keepers, then another non King book, and then I may finally read Duma Key. That's the plan anyway.

I just started it last night and enjoying it so far. I've been on a bit of a reading frenzy the past few days. In 3 days I've read Finders Keepers and a book called Replay by Ken Grimwood. Now I'm onto Duma Key.

Since it's release day. This one I got the old-fashioned way. I walked into a bookstore and bought it! Didn't want to risk getting a damaged copy via Amazon. Just waiting now for the UK editions...

And I managed to get the "ARL" via eBay.

Is that the Hardback? If so you know thats not the 1st edition right? It's an export edition. The Original UK was a soft 'French Fold' Cover.

EDIT: Now that I look closer, it does not appear to be a hardback, difficult to tell :)

zelig
06-04-2015, 02:55 AM
Yes, this is the softcover. And yep, I know this one is considered the 1st edition. I do actually still want the hardcover export edition. Any ones I've seen for sale haven't been in the condition I would like so still looking.

It has hard boards (I think black) and a dust jacket the same design as photo above. Most went to Australia I think.

I don't have one so can't say for sure but my understanding is basically what Jon said. It looks the same as the BCA or softcover editions in terms of cover art. It's just a hardcover version which I also believe went mostly to Australia.

I think it was ONLY sold in Australia. Here are some photo's. Mine has the full numberline, but there is no price on the DJ which I *think* is correct.

Thanks. I got the letter from eBay. It was listed with the book but I basically bought it for the letter. A second one showed up the next day for about half the price of what I paid! But that's how it goes. At least I have the letter. I was lucky enough to get one for Mr Mercedes as well back when it was released.

1st impression UK reprint of Black House

1st UK paperback TWTTK

The Scarlet Gospels with the red page edges

I will admit that I haven't read a Barker novel in many years, and I initially wanted this edition because of how it looks. I like the cover art and the red edges.

Another book that sort of falls in that category is The Bone Tree by Greg Iles. I was at the bookstore and picked it up, and really liked the way this book was made. It's hard to see from the picture, but the dust jacket is a semi-transparent type material and when it's on the book, the printed cover of the boards show through the jacket. I also like the rough pages edges. I've heard good things about the book, and I'm sure I'll get to read it at some point, but I mostly got it because of how nice it looks.

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c330/zelig7/IMG_4020_zpsvzbg2mej.jpg

And finally, I was really surprised at how small this ended up being. Basically the size of a small format paperback.

Very nice new additions Paul. Glad the books arrived safely - I was beginning to get worried they were't going to arrive. Red edged Clive Barker looks even better in your photos!
I like the single pop-up promo of TGWLTG, I too think is debatable whether this is a proof or promo item, I would say promo but I still want one!
The Bone Tree is very intriguing - I like the dust jacket printing on tracing paper? and rough edges remind me of the SubPress The Shining or some of the early SK doubleday books.

Thanks Jon. Yes that's a better way of describing the DJ. It's like tracing paper but thicker. The first book I remember ever seeing with the rough edges was The Stand Doubleday 1st when I got a copy many many years ago. I would say more than 22 years ago and since then I've always liked books with the edges like that. If I remember correctly Knopf did all their hardcovers like that. Maybe still do, I'm not sure.

There's been a flurry of deliveries the past few days.

First off, the UK 1st of Finders Keepers. Arrived from Amazon in good shape. No complaints.

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c330/zelig7/IMG_4032_zpspfavauw4.jpg

TGWLTG Popup, which I've never had in my collection. I've always neglected to get this one but finally got around to it.

This one was on eBay for some time and it kept sort of calling out to me every time I saw it to just buy it. I wasn't overly excited about getting it, but after it sat there and never sold for a few weeks, I just got it.

Basically the 1st Trade of Storm of the Century with the "ARL" and signed by Debrah Farentino who played a part in the show. Also included is an invitation card to the ABC/Pocket Books cocktail party with Stephen King.

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c330/zelig7/IMG_4030_zpsbde9ioar.jpg

This is the CD traycase for 11/22/63 which I didn't have. I like collecting the aftermarket slipcases and traycases.

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c330/zelig7/IMG_4031_zpsf1dj6mbq.jpg

And finally, I don't really collect Large Print editions and this was more of a "would-be-nice-to-have" sort of item, but ended up caving and bought it because 11/22/63 is one of my absolute favorite books.
