Marvel has gone absolutely bananas and just announced not only all of Phase 5, but also some of Phase 6, including Avengers 5 and 6 both in 2025!

Some quick-fire thoughts on current state of MCU

Phase 4 has felt aimless; there were some good moments peppered across the stories, it desperately needed a Thanos level threat connecting everything (Kang should fix this)
Who asked for an Agatha series? Echo? They're going to feel like Diet Coke versions of Wanda and Daredevil's stories...
No X-Men?? Really??
Blade is going to be amazing! Is M. Ali locked in!?

Am I missing something, or is Armor Wars not happening anymore?

I'm glad Marvel finally gave a clear sense of where they're going with the official "Multiverse Saga" branding. Their upcoming roadmap does look exciting too, even though none of it was a surprise. Hell, even the two Avengers movies were spoiled days ago thanks to the copyrights. Let's hope Marvel learns from their many mistakes this phase, and are able to rebound hard for 5 and 6

mae
07-24-2022, 07:36 AM
There are still lots of blank spots on the Phase 6 timeline that they'll likely announce at D23 in a few months. I imagine Armor Wars will be part of that, plus other announced projects like Shang-Chi 2 and Eternals 2, Deadpool 3 and maybe a new Spider-Man movie, apparently the rumored The Mutants, still lots more to go over the next 2-3 years.

A sentiment shared by many. I'm sure she means we'll, but she's hypocritical, obnoxious, and often says many things that are just untrue. Hell, even James Gunn doesn't like her and has put her on blast

Her tone is "annoying little sister in the back seat demanding her parents make her brother stop touching her". Loud, nasal, and over-dramatic.

And while she has insider information about upcoming features, she is too selective about what she reveals. She will never say anything discouraging or pessimistic about a feature film until it's out of theaters. Everything coming up will be awesome, and things are only disappointing well after all potential revenues have been earned.

She's part of the hype machine - as she has to be, or the insider info would dry up pretty quickly.

So they've finally confirmed what's happening with the upcoming animated series Spider-Man: Freshman Year. While initially, it seemed like it was going to be a prequel to Civil War - focusing on Peter's first year as Spidey before meeting Tony Stark - it actually seems like it's taking a different route. Here's what Brad Winderbaum, Head of Streaming for Marvel Studios had to say about it (full link here (https://comicbook.com/marvel/news/spider-man-freshman-year-animated-series-mcu-cano-multiverse/)):

Well, like we said in the panel, it follows the pattern that you see in [Captain America:] Civil War...Down to Peter getting the broken Blu-ray player from the trash, and he walks into his apartment for the famous moment where Tony Stark is waiting for him to offer him the Stark internship and take him to Berlin. But because of things that happen in the multiverse because of new, random occurrences, it's not Tony Stark who's waiting for him there. It's Norman Osborn and that sends his life in an unexpected trajectory that collides him with many unexpected characters in the Marvel universe.

I've gotta be honest, I'm a little bit disappointed by this. While we've seen Peter's origins so many times by this point, and I actually like that the MCU initially skipped over that, after five years, it feels like a good time to flesh out the beginnings of this Peter's story. No, he wouldn't have faced the Green Goblin or Doc Ock, but it could've been interesting to see Peter struggle with the low-level stuff before meeting Tony. This approach? It feels like a bit of a cop-out. Especially since they're saying it's still a part of the MCU because it's a part of the "multiverse". Because seriously, after No Way Home, everything counts as being part of the multiverse by this point. I'll keep an open mind about it, especially as we all enjoy a good Spider-Man story, but yeah. Definitely disappointed that this isn't exactly what they initially advertised it to be.

I have a sneaking suspicion that Hugh's inclusion is also a backdoor introduction to a younger, multiverse Wolverine. Don't think it's a coincidence that the Fantastic Four film is debuting at around the same time frame. I'm guessing there'll be some multiverse hijinks across the two films, and they'll take the opportunity to say goodbye to Jackman + bring in the new guy.

Also, how hilarious would it be if there was a multiverse Deadpool that's played by Hugh  Make it happen Marvel!

I'm shocked. Logan was such a perfect send-off for the character that I'm very surprised Jackman would reprise the role in any way.

I can only assume that it's being done in a way that doesn't undermine that ending - it's Wolverine in a different reality, set long before the events of Logan, or it's a goofy dream sequence on Deadpool's part. One can only hope, anyway.

Heartily disagree. WF is good, really good, but Black Panther is one of the best films in the MCU.

A singular focus (i.e no need to add back-door intros to characters getting their own Disney+ series), one of the best villains in all of the MCU in Killmonger, and Chadwick Boseman at the peak of his T'Challa character. All of these things put BP1 above and beyond.

Having said that, I still enjoyed WF immensely. The addition of Atlantis -- sorry I mean Talokan added a completely new color palette and made the films one of the most visually distinctive I've seen in some time. Namor was a strong anti-hero/antagonist. Still don't like the new BP character but I can understand why they went that route.

Yeah I LOVED Namor and much better than the DC version we have gotten. He was well cast. I am surprised you liked Black Panther so much. Its a big gap % wise in the Rotten Tomatoes scores from the audience and I agree. I never was a huge fan of BP... but I a sure am of WF....

It does mean that I tend to watch everything years after others do, absent of all the hype surrounding release, but I like it that way; it allows me to more easily enjoy it or not on its own terms.

The Marvels is SOOOO Bad. The best part of it was Kelsey Grammer as Beast in the last 30 seconds. Marvel needs to re-group here FAST.

You actually paid money to see it? You're a better person than me.

IT was so bad. I literlly am THIS close to stopping the theater going for Marvel... .Spiderman was the last good movie they did
Just hang on until Kraven the Hunter. It looks like a good R rated Marvel movie. Like Logan. Hang in there Kris, you can do it :).

Well, I can't argue with the Sony thing. What would you like to see them get back too. What style of movie?

Spiderman ( I said up thread) was the last great Marvel production. The rest are soooo bad. I loved what they were doing before but Endgame really was thier Endgame.

Sony didnt do NO Way Home. It was Marvel. And yes they cannot make comic book movies. Venom is a joke and such a beloved character from the comics.. my fav in fact.

No Way Home is a Sony movie. And the first Spider-Verse won the Oscar for Best Animated Film,a dn the second one might as well.

I hated the cartoons too..... i just dont like them since I was a kid. AND your wrong.. Marvel did No Way Home and I am WELL aware of the property ownership. There is a distinct difference when one views that then Venom. The movie was co-produced by Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios, and distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing. Thats why it was good.. Sony had nothing to do with the story.

It's not actually the last 30 seconds of the movie. It's after all the credits, so you have to watch all the credits first.

Thanks - I think we are all conditioned to stay for the credits these days. We all make mistakes, Kris.

I really enjoyed it and had a lot of fun. But I also loved the Ms. Marvel series on D+ so I suppose it depends on if you enjoyed that or not.

I am in total agreement, with Mae that is. It was a fun, nicely timed, romp. I have not watched the Ms. Marvel series yet, but will soon enough. I enjoyed digging in a little deeper into Captain Marvel. Sorry Kris, we disagree again.

https://variety.com/2024/film/news/fantastic-four-cast-1960s-setting-marvel-fresh-start-1235911587/

What is most tantalizing about Wednesday’s announcement, however, is the way Marvel went about it, with a playful illustration of the actors as their characters celebrating Valentine’s Day. From the retro title treatment, to the mid-century modern costumes and furniture, to the fact that Ben appears to be reading an issue of Life magazine from December 1963, it seems pretty clear that “The Fantastic Four” will be set in the 1960s.

More to the point, that suggests that “The Fantastic Four” will exist in a parallel universe separate from the core MCU — if there was a family of space age superheroes who were contemporaries of Peggy Carter and Howard Stark, we probably would’ve heard about them by now. Instead, Marvel appears to be using this film to give itself a literal fresh start, allowing audiences to walk into this movie without necessarily having to know anything about the 50-plus MCU titles that will precede it.

Of course, eventually, the Fantastic Four will join the main MCU — most likely in 2027’s “Avengers: Secret Wars,” which (if it follows the storyline from the 2015 comics run of the same name) will involve multiple parallel universes colliding with each other. That might lead to a brand new, semi-rebooted MCU with the Fantastic Four (and the X-Men, as suggested by the post-credits scene of “The Marvels”) at its center.

This has the potential to be amazing or really really bad. They're cramming a lot of stuff in there, plus this film is fairly or unfairly being saddled with the expectations of "saving the MCU". It's going to be scrutinized more than usual.

Regardless, the rated-R Deadpool formula hasn't let us down yet. I'll be there!
