Since you all would probably like to stop drawing people for awhile, I thought I'd give you a little diversion.

There is a Towerpedia! article on Maerlyn's rainbow here (http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/showthread.php?t=1847), if you want a little direction. I have faith you guys are totally going to impress me!

Please read the Contest Posting Guidelines before submitting your entry, and have fun!

Contest will be open until February 7, 2008.

Yeah! I think i'm actually going to give this one a try. I can't draw people worth crap, but I think I can handle a few circles.

Great choice Daghain. People are not my thing artistically, but objects, that's another story. I believe I will be giving this one a shot.

Sadly, even a simple line drawing circle is beyond my talents. :(

I look forward to everyone's entries though.

Black 13.
Not sure if I want to enter it as color, or Black & White.

So I know I told you I probably wouldn't enter the contest's, Dag, but this one called out to me.

I used pencil, markers, Sharpies, gel pens, and the red one is done in nail polish. I like the way the paper absorbed the nail polish, actually, It soaked in really nicely.

Despeckled in photoshop, and then I used the guassian blur, and cut-out functions. I seem to enjoy using the cut-out function. Haha.

So, yeah, here's my entry:

I don't think I will have time to draw anything new but if you let me I would like to enter with this one (let me know if it's not okay or something):

So is this for all of Maerlyn's rainbow or for the individual glasses?

I ask because I actually created a replica of the grapefruit a few years ago that was raffled off at PalaverCon, and I'd like to submit it. But if we're going to be doing a separate contest for the grapefruit, then I'll just wait.

jayson
01-27-2008, 04:49 PM
that's actually a good question aaron. the rainbow, or a piece[s] of it?

Daghain
01-27-2008, 09:09 PM
It's the rainbow, technically. I am eventually thinking about doing separate threads for the Grapefruit and Black Thirteen, but I would say submit what you want, if it wins and it's only of one ball, when the new article is created I can move it there.

I'm in the process of redoing it though. I bought some coloured papers for the balls, and I'm going to have it all silhouette with cut out colour rather than the painted red bits. Then I can photograph it up at the window and the light should come through the coloured sections...

i'll just sit there and stare at a painting or drawing and judge the shit out of it. I go through a series of touch-ups/changes/judging until i just get so sick of it and abandon the damn thing, accepting it is finished.

sometimes i'm really happy with something, and i declare it done. then two or three months later, i'll look at it and be like, "what the eff is this crap? what was i thinking??"

i had to force myself to post mine in order to stop myself from tinkering with it "just a little bit more" for the 80th time. the real issue for me with doing all my art digitally is the temptation to just hit "file-close" and say "fuck it, this piece sucks. bye bye." done it before and sure i will do it again. :ninja:

i didn't even know what i did was art until my friends told me it was. [can you say "american primitive" duma key readers?]. i used to just use photoshop to make cool covers for my cds and backgrounds for ads at work. i started to use those skills to make pretty pictures but when i showed my friends [whom i consider actual artists, they have shows, they went to college for it, etc] they said it was art. i'm still not sure either way, but i can be honest about it.
