I got to thinking about the bands who hit us with one hit, and then fade away. One of my favorites is the story of "Golden Earring" who released one of the greatest rock songs, "Radar Love" and then disappeared for like twenty years only to release "Bullet hits the Bone". The funny thing is that they had the nerve to release a "Greatest Hits" album a year or two later!!! LOL
So, who is your favorite "One Hit Wonder"????

Golden Earring never disappeared - although from an American perspective it may seem they did.
And they're definitely not a one hit wonder - they've been a solid band for decades.

Well, maybe I should have specified "in America", but they had "Radar Love" (arguably one of the best R&R songs all time) and then nothing on the american charts for 20 years, until "Bullet hits the Bone".

I never saw the point of covering a song that already had Bowie and Robert Fripp, but I suppose Jakob Dylan thought otherwise.
That said though, he is not a one-hit wonder either. The Wallflowers charted a couple of times with their own songs. In fact, one of them is being used in some commercial I seem to see pretty often.
Let us just say that I strongly prefer his father.
PS. Not that I am trying to get into the habit of correcting you, but the McLean song is called "Vincent" though you are hardly the first person to identify it as "Starry Night." :)

That's easily Harry Chapin's biggest hit but he charted a few more times with "W.O.L.D." as well as "Taxi" and it's sequel entitled appropriately enough "Sequel"

Cat Stevens charted with a few other songs.
"Father and Son" made it to #2.
His cover of "Another Saturday Night" made it to #19 (though Sam Cooke's version is profoundly better)
"Morning Has Broken" topped out at #8.
"Moonshadow" was #22.
Actually, though "Wild World" is probably his most known song, all of the above outperformed it on the charts as "Wild World" peaked at #52.
Though we're only talking singles here, his Tea for the Tillerman album went gold.

Well, they are "our" rules and we could always expand them to include "One Hit Album" wonders if you like. Such as "Boston" and even "Bat out of Hell" (granted iffy).

IMO a much better song and video from the era when those carried the same weight. I looked up the chart positions. "Talk to You Later" never cracked the top 100. "She's a Beauty" hit #10.

There was about a year when I remember All I Need is a Miracle being everywhere I turned. I liked it at first and eventually hated it. Not a terrible pop song in retrospect but its ubiquity drove me nuts.

I'm cool with either way you want to go on this subject. Matter of fact, I thought this topic would be a helluva lot easier than it has proven to be. Narrow minded I suppose, on my part. I guess the main thing is we get to discuss and revisit "Classic Rock" songs and performances, right?

I looked back through the posts and found a couple that don't work.

Molly Hatchet had Flirtin' with Disaster & Whiskey Man. Down here in Florida they had others too.

Well we must define "hit" then we must decide if the "hit" is the one to be posted.
For example. There is a band called Berlin that had a hit from the movie Top Gun. (I think.) I think it to be their only hit, at least in the U.S. but I feel a bit of nostalgia for their song The Metro." The song is CRAP but there are circumstances in my life that it reminds me of and feelings that it evokes.
So may I ONLY post the "HIT" from the movie or post what evokes the feeling??
My vote is...post what you want!

That's "Take My Breath Away" which was their greatest hit. "No More Words" was a hit too.

Looks like a couple of good ones Jon.
These guy had a couple of other songs, but I don't think they rate as "hits." The only one that seems to qualify as a hit is Circles.

For .99 cents guys... go to Itunes and type in One Hit Wonder. It is done by a friend of mine here named Mike Boyd.... it is AMAZING... catchy pop like but it is allllll about the one hit wonders of the past. Such a nostalgic cool tune:)
Funny. I had never heard Circles.
