Today, I received a very nice fine copy of the last remaining US variant of EOTD I needed. Many thanks to Joe (Joe315) for offering it to me.

Stephen King - The Eyes Of The Dragon - US 1st/1st HB 'Haddon Craftsmen' Printing Variant.

http://i1277.photobucket.com/albums/y496/fenpad/IMG_4369_zpslkpsiixj.jpg (http://s1277.photobucket.com/user/fenpad/media/IMG_4369_zpslkpsiixj.jpg.html)http://i1277.photobucket.com/albums/y496/fenpad/IMG_4370_zps8ztwooiw.jpg (http://s1277.photobucket.com/user/fenpad/media/IMG_4370_zps8ztwooiw.jpg.html)

All three variants together. I have been very lucky to find fine copies of all three variants of a notoriously difficult book to find with an undamaged dust jacket.

Congrats! Could you explain the differences my man? Hard to see in your pics....

Thanks Kris, There were three different printers for the first US edition of EOTD. So the only difference in the whole book is on the copyright page (see photos below) where it lists the printers. Externally they are identical, apart from, it may be my imagination but the 'Haddon Craftmen's' variant (to the right) is slightly smaller than the two printed by Arcata Graphics.

Congratulation Jon on the new proof. I know the general consensus is that the art used on the proof is preferred over the final cover, but I've always had a different opinion. I do agree that the proof version is nicer, but I actually like the final cover. Maybe something about the simplicity or starkness (if that's the right word) of it. That duotone sort of look. I may be very much in the minority of people who like that cover.

Actually, my proof collection is pretty modest. I have most of the scarcer/early US ones but I 'lost' some of the scarcer UK proofs during one of my selling frenzies a couple of years ago. Right now I have 27 US proofs (starting with The Dead Zone up to and including Insomnia, which are basically all the regular trade edition proofs from 1979 to 1994, plus one of the Dolan's Cadillac ones) and only 7 UK proofs. These are also from the 1980's and early 1990's.

Hodder has been doing this for a while, now. Lisey's Story was the first that I remember. Duma Key, Under the Dome, Full Dark No Stars, two versions of 11.22.63, and Doctor Sleep were the others. No UK proof of Mr. Mercedes was done.

And other TDT members as well, I believe. I had a snipe bid in place, which I was planning to remove because I had a lead on another copy (in lesser condition and therefore cheaper - I'm not too picky when it comes to proofs), but apparently I forgot to do so. I think I had my bid set at £80. I won't be getting the other copy either so I'll just have to wait for my turn.

Couple of small additions today. First up is a variant of the US Rose Madder, it is a printer variant by R.R. Donnelley & Sons Company as opposed to my other copy by Quebecor Printing Fairfield. I ordered this before I realised just how many of these printers variants there actually are! I am in no hurry to get any more.

Secondly, another new proof also today.

Two UK variants, two printers variants of the US 1st as a far as I know, a few DJ variants of the US but most of those are one of a kind.

Thanks Simon. I would grade this copy as very good so I would eventually try and upgrade again (there's some creasing and a pronounced spine lean but the DJs complete!). It would be, as yours, a low priority.
