Fantastic. I'm sorry I missed out on this one... will have to get a copy some day.

Thanks Paul, I hope you pick a copy one day, as it's a very nice one to have.

Wow. Only 148 copies for the S/L? I never noticed that before. That's gotta be one of the lowest limitations for a King S/L, right?

Thanks, I think it's the lowest limitation of a S/L after the Pop-up edition of TGWLTG which has 125 copies.

I spotted you near the beginning of the list with the elite, I'm tucked away at the back.

I received a few books today but most importantly I finally got the two that David @ Betts allowed me to layaway for five months. First up is one from Grant's collection.

Stephen King - Doctor Sleep - US CD Lettered Edition NN/52 - Triple Remarqued by Vincent Chong, Glen Chadbourne and Erin Wells.

My Final arrival for today is a book that I have wanted for many years - one of my Holy Grails. I've only ever seen it in inferior photos and seeing it in the flesh is phenomenal. I must admit it is a pain to unzip and a nightmare to re-zip.

Yes Kris it is the same one. The only 'fault' is a crinkle in the leather on the spine just above the King. Otherwise perfect, I suspect it was manufactured like that. It is only visible on first two photos.

Today, I got my extra copy of Thinner.

Stephen King - Thinner - UK PS Slipcased HB (Les Edwards Variant) - Subscriber 'Lettered' C/974

http://i1277.photobucket.com/albums/y496/fenpad/IMG_4174_zpsmbmmro1s.jpg (http://s1277.photobucket.com/user/fenpad/media/IMG_4174_zpsmbmmro1s.jpg.html)http://i1277.photobucket.com/albums/y496/fenpad/IMG_4176_zps6mwudm38.jpg (http://s1277.photobucket.com/user/fenpad/media/IMG_4176_zps6mwudm38.jpg.html)

Both Thinner Variants together. I may possibly have the only pair of matching Thinners, this was only possible as they were out of series 'Lettered' copies.

http://i1277.photobucket.com/albums/y496/fenpad/IMG_4177_zpsbbtvitne.jpg (http://s1277.photobucket.com/user/fenpad/media/IMG_4177_zpsbbtvitne.jpg.html)

And as a set with the other PS Editions (From L-R Unsigned Christine, Numbered Remarqued Christine, 'Lettered' Pet Sematary, Numbered Remarqued Pet Sematary, 'Lettered' Carrie, 'Lettered' Both Variants Thinner). Unfortunately due to production problems (not enough limitation pages to go around) there were no 'Lettered' Christines and subsequently Lifetime Deluxe subscribers received unsigned copies - therefore, I do not have a complete set of Letter 'C'.

How did you arrange to get your copies lettered and not numbered? I missed that part.

Many years ago I bought a Lifetime Deluxe subscription with PS. I now get the Deluxe signed copies for every release from PS Publishing. Each of us were assigned a letter, mine was C. As a subscriber I was to receive the Les Edwards variant, so I paid separately for an extra copy of Thinner (the Edward Miller variant) and asked Pete if it could be included in my subscription.

They are essentially the numbered edition, but lettered with the subscriber's letter. I have some PS Lettered editions where there is a proper letter C out there and my copy to differentiate is lettered 'C' in apostrophes or says SUB C (26 lettered copies + 26 out of series lettered subscriber copies). This is something they have done from the start. Confusing? YES! The Thinners are out of series books in addition to the numbered edition of 974 (also there are copies of The Colorado Kid which are lettered). Now PS have started doing their Super Deluxe Lettered editions like Carrie which are not included in the subscription - I had to pay extra and request my copy C.

Out of interest Jon, if you have both variants of thinner, would the second also be 'C' or would it just be numbered?

Both my variants are C, if I then bought extra copies they would be numbered. The only way they could be matched was because they are out of series PC copies for subscribers and just had my subscriber ID as a limitation letter. Impossible to do with the numbered (unless you doubled the print run which I think Pete would have difficulty in selling and also he was probably only contractually limited to 974 numbers) as you would have non-consecutive and missing numbers and double numbers. Having these variants certainly buggered up people having a full set. I can never have a full set due to not having Christine letter C (doesn't exist). So I will never a full set from the very first book! :pullhair:

(and I agree the variant Thinner is an annoyance :) The completist in me made me buy it but I would rather it had never existed.)

Unfortunately, there was not enough limitation sheets for all copies, so customers who bought copies got the signed editions and with subscribers getting copies without limitation pages.

Thanks John and Bill. The Black House is one of the few SK books I haven't read. I think I will have to re-read The Talisman before starting on it.

Interesting, Jon, I actually read Black House and loved it, but have not read The Talisman.

I had tried to read The Talisman back when it first came out in the mid 1980s but couldn't get into it at the time. I have it now on my Kindle to try again now that I am more motivated!

I had no problem reading it as a standalone. It mentions some things from The Talisman but I had no trouble with feeling 'lost' or anything. I really liked its 'darkness' and honestly couldn't tell what parts King had written and what Straub had written!

Absolutely!! You can get by just reading a synopsis of "The Talisman". "The Talisman is a great book, but I like BH even better. There is a heavier "DT" tie in and it is a faster and more interesting story imho. You'll love it I am sure!!

I was always mystified why, King didn't include the events of BH and even Jack, into TDT VII. Maybe because he wrote it together with, Straub?

This is a warning for prospective and past buyers of CD's unbound proofs from ebay.

I was the highest bidder of an auction for The Dark Man Unbound earlier in the month from UK seller ashkent7. What arrived was not what was pictured in the auction photographs. This was obviously a scanned and copy of the original.

The differences of the copy were as follows:
1). All the CD unbound proofs should be all the same size (as confirmed by John Hanic and Brian @ CD), they should be printed on 8 1/2" x 11 sized paper. This is the only sized paper CD are using in their office. The unbound copy that arrived was A4 sized ( 8 1/4" x 11 2/3").

2). The printing quality was inferior compared to the CD versions with transfer of wet ink from opposing pages and there was leaching of ink through the paper.

3). The drawings of the copy were not central to the page as with the proper CD proof due to the differing size of paper. The right hand side margin was disproportionally wider as a result.

These are some photos of the copy
http://i1277.photobucket.com/albums/y496/fenpad/IMG_4195_zpsktxlhhwy.jpg (http://s1277.photobucket.com/user/fenpad/media/IMG_4195_zpsktxlhhwy.jpg.html)

I know of at least one other member than myself that has bought a copy of The Dark Man unbound proof from this seller as a second chance offer (due to my apparent non-payment!)
So if anybody else has purchased one from this seller check it very carefully.

I just hope that this unpleasant occurrence does not discourage Brian and the rest of the team at CD from offering them in the future, as I enjoy owning my other copies and really find them interesting. I don't know if future copies could be marked with marker with a unique number similar to the Secretary of Dreams bound proofs on the page edges?

I will also be posting this in the eBay bullshit and my Collection threads for maximum coverage!

Changed my avatar to a photo of me first thing in the morning! I love this painting 'The Judge' by Les Edwards for PS's Thinner. I've been keeping an eye out on Les's website to see if it was going to be up for sale. Unfortunately, when I checked again it was listed but it was already sold. Disappointed but save me a lot of money!

I've been trying to severely limit my buying at the moment, hence I haven't updated for a little while. But I did spot something yesterday that I bought and it's now in transit. It's something that I have wanted for a while but I have never seen it up for sale in 20 years of collecting and have only ever seen photos of one copy. I had to go for it - so much for saving money! I will post photos when it arrives.

Thanks Megan. I suppose the best place to start is with the Discworld novels, the first being The Colour Of Magic. However, there are 41 of them!

Thanks Paul. There are quite a few S/Ls. I only have a handful.

Thanks Simon. I haven't read the Long series books yet. The fourth is being released in June. If they are very different, they are probably very influenced by Stephen Baxter.

I really like the artwork on those 'WORLDS' books.

Thanks Steve. I agree they are very nice covers. I really like the matching coloured edges to the pages.

I may get chided for this, but I'm nothing if not honest. I confess I know nothing of this author, but I am intrigued. If you were initiating someone to his works what would you suggest? I think I want to read this man's work. Thank you your indulgence.

Thanks Bill.
Terry Pratchett is not as popular in the US as he is in the UK. His genre was witty fantasy but the books with Stephen Baxter were science fiction. If you are into science fiction then read the Long series books. But Simon says these are very different from his usually works. If you want his fantasy books, I would start with The Colour Of Magic. It is the first of his Discworld books - it can be read as a standalone book but the whole series is forty plus books.

Nice ROADWORK. Looks almost new. Which begs the question, what's a NM copy going for nowadays? I think this was asked in the other thread but I have a bad memory. And now I want to read it again! See what you've done!

Jon took this as a trade for Salem's prints, but I had it listed at 60GBP on eBay.

Shameless plug, I still have for sale similar condition UK copies of The Long Walk and The Running Man :)

Thanks again Simon. I have still got my eye on your The Long Walk!

Why, that's the most shameless plug I've ever read! And I've read some doozies.

All seriousness aside or well, just the opposite, I remember ROADWORK being a very entertaining read although I can't recall any of the details.

Roadwork was good - but The Long Walk, now THAT was a great story. Always thought TLW would make a great film. Frank Darabont seemingly has the rights to it. I think he'd do a fine job with it.

These are not part of my collection ( maybe for a few weeks as I bought them for another member ). I thought they had interesting covers that non-UK members may not have seen before.

The WTTK by the ISBN is the b format. I've noticed this before on copyright pages, what is the difference between 'a' and 'b' formats Steve?

One's a 'normal' paperback size. The other is trade paperback size. I can never remember which is which though.

I just checked my copies. 'A' is the small size. 'B' is the big size.

Of the four Bachman Books, it is my least favorite. I think it could easily have been a short story rather than a short novel. My 2 cents.

Thanks Paul, these coloured page edges seem to be on the increase at Waterstones. With Finder Keepers I think it will be fairly likely they'll produce one. I would imagine bright orange page edges would fit in well with the cover.

I love how they do that... gotta say... its pretty bad ass.

Thanks Kris, The photos don't really show how vibrant the page edges appear. I was really careful to select very nice copies as quite a few were dinged and with bad abrasions on the red of page edges down to the white of the pages.
