Blair Witch

So far the votes seem to be all over the place with these again.

I'll see how it goes

Pan's Labirynth is one of the best films in the history of cinema. It only has a nodding acquaintance wil horror movies, so I'll probably watch Blair Witch

Blair Witch but please, not Hellraiser lol

What's wrong with Hellraiser?

Mattrick

I thought it was incredibly boring and, for a horror film, incredibly hammy.

Now we have a tie in the tiebreaker...

bears will, as soon as they see that del Toro is hopelessly left behind

Jean, do you consider Pan's Labyrinth a horror movie, or is it just that you think it's a better film overall (of which I would agree with). I just don't see any horror elements in it.

Jean
04-23-2014, 10:18 AM
it is by no means a horror movie. But it being one of the best films of all times, I can't force myself to vote against it.

mae
04-23-2014, 10:20 AM
I would consider it a dark fantasy film. It does have a few scary-ish scenes though. It was nominated and approved, so here we are. And we had a lengthy discussion then about what is and isn't a horror movie. Again, it's very subjective a lot of the times.

Jean

wake up, pablo: we are still having it and it isn't likely to ever stop! http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k291/mishemplushem/Facilitation/0134-bear.gif (http://s91.photobucket.com/user/mishemplushem/media/Facilitation/0134-bear.gif.html)http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k291/mishemplushem/Facilitation/0134-bear.gif (http://s91.photobucket.com/user/mishemplushem/media/Facilitation/0134-bear.gif.html)http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k291/mishemplushem/Facilitation/0134-bear.gif (http://s91.photobucket.com/user/mishemplushem/media/Facilitation/0134-bear.gif.html)
(it's like the discussion whether TDT is a novel or a series)

Pretty surprising seeing Hellraiser running away with it.

Heather19

I'm not sure if I've ever seen Hellraiser :orely: I think I keep confusing it with Candyman in my mind for some reason. It's on netflix streaming so maybe I'll watch it tonight and see if I remember it.

You'd remember Pinhead.

I won't vote for Hellraiser, but I have a soft spot for it. It was the first horror movie (that was not black-and-white and made thirty years before I was born) I've seen on the big screen. The only one - not black-and-white and not made thirty years before I was born - I had seen before this was Nightmare on Elm Street, but this was in a video parlor, if anyone remenbers what that was (assuming there were such things some place besides Russia). I have been sentimental about both of them since, and have never tried to re-watch either.

By the way, I love Candyman (first, of course). Did we nominate it?

What's a video parlor?

What's a video parlor?
oh... when Communism started disintegrating... the country was incredibly poor, and though people already had video players abroad (and had had for quite a long time), nobody could afford them here; I am talking about late 80s. Some people pooled their money, bought VCRs, and played videos in clubs, almost like in cinema, only on a very small screen... with atrocious quality of both sound and picture... and still it was fascinating! Nightmare on Elm Street scared me a lot, and I also watched Total Recall this way and loved it; I don't think I would even sneeze in its direction now, let alone watch... Bears were young, and everything was new...

Nope. Way too many good (or even great) horror movies had to be left by the wayside of the 128-title cut-off.

Looks like BWP is pulling away for second place now.

Jean

good. Hence, bears have voted for Labirynth, and tied it with Jacob's Ladder (which they love too)

I can't believe BWP is getting so many votes. It looks like I'm along in regards to that movie. It bored me to tears and watching snot bubbles coming out of someones nose for (what seemed like an eternity) an extended period time just wasn't fun or interesting.

It almost reminds me of the Paranormal Activity movies. A whole lot of nothing happening until you get to the end where “something” happens but we don’t get to see it. Roll credits.

I know a lot of people that couldn’t stand watching it for more than a few minutes because of the shaky cam view. It literally made them sick.

Blair Witch is an awesome movie.

Jean
04-25-2014, 07:48 AM
yes, it is

Mattrick

Blair Witch is the most successful movie ever. It cost 60,000 to make and gross U.S. Box office was 140.5 million: it made 2,342.31 for each dollar spent to make it. (this is excluding International numbers)

That was a close tiebreaker. I was worried we might have to do another.
