Thanks for the official announcement RF.

As the contributor of the book, I had the honour of suggesting which stories/elements that Rachel should draw and I selected the following:

1. The cat crawling inside the hit man (The cat from Hell)
2. At the Party, viewing the destruction of manhattan by atomic bomb (graduation afternoon)
3. Curtis Johnson Crawling through the toilet to escape being locked in (A very tight place)
4. Richard Sifkitz on his bike with the mural in front of him (The Stationary Bike)

I think everyone will agree, Rachel has done an amazing job on these! Go forth and bid!

Simon - Why is the bidding shown as a 'Private Listing'? Obviously this auction is legit, but when I see private bidders, it always seems a little sketchy.

Absolutely amazing and stunning! Nice work Rachel and Stroppy!

p.s. I'll be cheeky and say I'd love to see a Gingerbread Girl and N remarque as well! Then it's my favourite 6 stories lol :P

I just followed the example of previous HF auctions. I think this is becoming the default now. Plus a lot of collectors prefer to remain anonymous on charity auctions. People outside of this forum will also be bidding remember.

FOUR is not enough???? (I don't think there were any blank pages left!) :P.
I actually submitted a longer list for Rachel to choose from and those two were I believe next on the list

They just happen to be my 6 favourite stories in the collection - I'd love to see those 2 as well - but of course 4 is enough. It's awesome!

I think you run the risk of alienating potential bidders. Often when "private auction" is selected folks stay away, as a kneejerk response, because of some (other) unscrupulous characters and the frauds they have committed with the privitization feature.

Cool remarques by the way! I'm afraid, with the recent offerings, my ability to buy in the charity auctions may be done. (because of being able to afford it! Or even outbid some of the Big Fish)

Stroppy obviously didn't intentionally make the bids private. Now that the auction is up, he can't change it. He could cancel the auction and start again, but why?

I'm not sure I understand the concern here? If this was an auction we had no visibility of and the final amount was going into an anonymous sellers pocket then fine. I as the seller have full visibility of who is buying, the final amount will go to RF as a payment from me and everyone will know what the final bid was.

I don't see the problem, private auctions have not caused any issues on any of the previous auctions, so why should this be any different?

The other HF auctions were not private, though. I know this auction is legit. I just brought it up, because typically if I see a private auction, I won't even bother with it.

Good to see this underway, thanks to Simon, Bill, Jerome erm did I miss anyone??

I hope I done the Haven Fund proud and that the auction raises lots of money. Bid bid bid, serve the Haven Foundation, all things do, see it says so in my sig so it must be true.

With regard to the auction being private, didn't Ebay bring in some policy some time ago where all auctions were private so nobody but the seller could see the buyers names? For anyone who is reading this and considering a bid but not a member here, let me as the artist state that there is no risk, everything is absolutely above board and legitimate and if you have any concerns you will find my email address on my website rachelreadman.com or blackrookstudios.com where you can contact me with any questions or concerns.

Thanks everyone,
Rachel

I think ebay keep bidders id's private now, Rachel. They include a couple of letters of the bidders username and asterix out the rest. A private auction is done by the seller and every bidder will show up as "private".

Ah! In that case this is my mistake. I had assumed that because the previous auctions had the bidders name astrix'd out I thought the auctions had been made private and ticked the box on this one.

Apologies to all.

The last one is also my favorite. They don't always need to be over-the-top. I think it's a great representation of the story.

I did do another version of this without the truck and looking from the perspective in the room, behind the bike and looking down the road into the mural, with the forest and red sky above. I felt this version was better having the truck in it and looking out from inside the mural so as to blend the reality with the fantasy.

There is a bit of simplicity to it but the photos here and on ebay are too small to really see the details fully. I didn't detail the truck too much and kept it slightly fuzzy to suggest that it might in fact not really be there and that it could just be a figment of his imagination. The basement was also whitewashed so there was no detail to it but behind the truck there is the outlines of the blocks of the back wall, they are faint but again in these photos are just about invisible.

Perhaps Simon could post some more detailed snippets taken from the hi-res photos I took, or maybe links to the full res/sized images on photobucket or similar?

I'm afraid the answer is not "bid" for everyone. Unfortunately, this item will close out of the price range that I can afford (as have the last number of auctions). I am supporting the Haven Fund through Ms. Readman by purchasing a Palaver sculpture, and I have also won a couple of auctions that closed at a price I can afford to pay. These end of fundraiser pieces are amazing, but they are only available to the "Big Fish" with deep pockets who can easily afford to drop close to a grand (or more) on a book. Good for the Haven Fund, perhaps not so good for the "small fry" street urchin standing outside staring through the candy store window, lol.

In any case, kudos to you for spearheading the fundraising efforts, Stroppygoblin for organizing this particular item, AND Ms. Readman for contributing some remarkable images
Whoever "wins" this is going to have a remarkable piece.

But if everyone thinks that, then it wont raise much money for the HF. If *everyone* bids the max amount that they would be willing to pay for this item then an auction occurs and the price goes up (ie more money for the fund). if everyone thinks, thats gonna go high, no one bids and someone gets it for a steal. It doesn't matter if you win or not. bid your maximum, you will help the fund, best case, no one goes higher and you win, worst case, you don't win, but don't lose any money!

Again, just to be clear *only* bid what you would happily feel comfortable paying if you win.

This one needs support folks as it has stalled a little. There are 4 great pieces of art here currently going for a modest £53 each (and thats ignoring the price of the book!). Rachels work is worth Waaaaayyy more than that! Lets see some bidding.

BP WHERE ARE YOU?????

I have to say that I ashamed that this suction is not doing better!!! I know it is not signed by, Stephen King, but it IS what the Haven Fund is all about. Artists supporting other artists in their time of need, Let's see if we can't show a little more "love" for this rare donation!!! C'mon folks!!!

I must say that of the recent remarqued auctions, I love this one the most. The four separate illos (especially that CAT!), the artistry, the colors, they are amazing. I would definitely be bidding given different financial circumstances.

Great work, Rachel, and everyone else involved.

We're edging ever closer to that goal of $12,500. Can we make it, or can we break it?

Merlin1958

History says we break it, my dear, but this year may be very close!!! We need, Brits and Colonists to finally come together on this one!!! Your "Palaver Wall Art" may actually be the deciding factor!! Get in there folks, Rachel has offered both wonderful art pieces and very generous HF monies!!!
