Some of you may know this already. I was watching an old 1960 western yesterday called, The Magnificent Seven. The movie was about a group of Mexican peasant villagers oppressed by bandits and they hired a group of seven gunfighters (slingers) to defend them. In the movie Vin said..

Vin: We deal in lead, friend.
Calvera: So do I. We're in the same business.
Vin: Only as competitors.

Just interesting because I thought "We deal in lead" was a King original... not so...

I too was watching that yesterday on TCM...a classic!

King has mentioned that Wolves of the Calla had some roots from The Seven Samurai...which was the basis for The Magnificent Seven (plus A Bug's Life and Three Amigos)....so he has most likely seen the film...but then again...who hasn't?

I think stuff from TM7 is ripped off (for lack of a better term) in the final showdown in The Wolves of the Calla.

To be honest, I didn't give it much thought. I picked it because that's the most memorable line from the book. It sent chills down my spine.

In Wolves of the Calla the phrase is an epigraph at the beginning of the book, credited to Steve McQueen in The Magnificent Seven, so...
