Do you make them? What are they?

I stopped making them a long time ago as I never seem to be able to stick to them!! LOL

Many years ago I resolved to not make New Years resolutions. With the exception of that one year I've been successful. That year I failed because resolving to not make resolutions automatically forced me to fail.

I don't make them. It's not to say that I don't use the end of a year as a time to refelct on what I'd like the next to be like, but I no longer make a specific list of things to address. This coming year my wife and I will be having our first child, so I'm sure more than enough things in my life will change without my having to make a list.

They so will!! But all in a good way

I usually reflect on my personal aims at Midsummer (it's a long story) but I quite like the feeeling of fresh starts, so I have got some resolutions this year:

Give up smoking - I had about 4 in the pub last night, I never smoke anytime other than when I'm in the pub. But it makes me feel really unhealthy the next day so its got to go!

Lose a stone and a half - no idea what that is in lbs. I'm going to use the weight watchers points system, but I don't bother with the classes. Plus i'm going to get back into running.

I think those resolutions go quite well together as it's all about being healthy. I've got the will power...somewhere, I just need to find it

The use of the word "stone" always reminds me of Euryon.

Last year I had two resolutions: no candy and no donuts. I've made it so far and I'm pretty happy about that!

This year I'm going to keep those two and I'm adding in no ice cream, no pastries/cakes/pies/cookies (unless homemade and it would be rude to refuse), no soda pop, and no fast food. Poor eating is obviously my main problem. I'm also resolving to work out every day, even when I'm sick. Finally, I'm going to clean my entire house once every week and I'll be more organized with my finances.

It's ambitious, but I've told people, so now I'm expected to stick to it. Right?

Yes, you've made it public so stick to it or else harriers will be coming to your door.:shoot: :shoot:

for the last several years i've had "no alien abductions" as a resolution so i can feel some sense of accomplishment on december 31. :P that's a keeper.

my main goal is to continue to learn to like myself for who i am and not base my self worth on someone else or what i can do for someone.

otherwise, i resolve to:
-keep my house clean, which involves a subcategory of making my children useful and productive members of society.
-get my finances under control, which includes actually writing stuff down in the check book.
-continue what the depression started and not just lose weight but get in a healthy mode, maintain BP, etc.
-do things for bethany occassionally and not put every damn body on the face of the planet before me.
-travel.
-quit eating out for lunch every day, stop the 10 AM tea fix, give up starbucks and late night coffee in general.
-and i failed on this one fairly early this year but NO SURGERY in 2008.

I have a few but I am so serious about them I may have to just keep it a secret.

Its not about weight--but I do need to make a few changes some places.

I resolve to eat 5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day

Start working out again! As soon as I can walk.

Look for a new martial arts school, which is going to be a tough one - they don't tend to stay around long.

Finish painting the house so I can finally sit back and say I'm done! :D

Get back the only girl I've ever had real feelings for (cept for you mom!).

Use my computer less. Sorry everyone but its a must.

Gain back the trust of my parents that I lost somewhere along the road.

I want to become more organized and clean, and keep my new rental house far cleaner than I have kept my apartment.

I want to continue my obedience training with Gimli and stick with it.

Continue to try to eat healthier and exercise.

Make more time for friends.

I don't ever make resolutions. Not because I can't stick with them, just because I don't really give enough of a shit to change anything.

Well of course I agree for the most part - there is nothing more irritating htat my boys gf's saying they weigh too much - jeesh put some meat on yer bones! But if you weighed in at 270 (lbs, not stones!) and had BP inching up you'd probably want to drop a few pounds or twenty or forty! :-) I am getting more excercise - the Wii is doing that for me! :-)

My problem is this:

Most people eat to live - I, on the other hand live to eat!

I'll never change the stuff I eat, but I do need to take a closer look at the portions!

Matt
01-02-2008, 08:12 AM
We're hoping to lose some Wii pounds this year too

21st Century exercise!!

For me I want to lose weight because, I'm the same weight now as I was when I was pregnant...and I'm not expecting right now  It's from laziness and over eating through boredom - so I do need to lose this weight, to actually feel more active y'know?

On the no smoking front, I went to the pub this evening and didn't smoke, even though the people I was with did

I make the same resolution every year, and every year I end up immediately breaking it, and it was the same this year. So I think I've given up on new years resolutions from now on.

Matt

Smoking?

Heather19
01-02-2008, 04:40 PM
no, it's actually very silly, but I always try to be a calmer driver. I have a long commute to work, and it's given me bad road rage (I'm not one of those crazy drivers that's flying down the road weaving in and out of traffic), but I do get really upset if someone cuts me off, or is going slower than me and refuses to move over. I always try to not get upset by it, and to just relax, but it never works. I think the longest I've actually kept it is maybe a week.

Matt
01-02-2008, 04:50 PM
Oh man, I can sure identify.

Traffic is by far my biggest pet peeve--even rural Colorado with its 3 drivers on the highway makes me freak out.

Have you guys seen the new Verizon commercial with a pony in it?

The girls friends are all there, she is staring at her pony (eating the dog house) and they lament how her friends got phones.

At the end one asks..."does it bite?"

and the girl is all..."yes"
