Let me know if you get one and its lame.

You and I must only be an hour or two apart in time Letti...its 8.35pm here - what is it there?

Jean

you are one hour apart. Budapest is in the same time zone as Paris. I am two more hours to the east.

I am going to be upgrading the radio/TV mod today. Supposed to have many cool new features. If something seems weird anywhere, let me know.

This is delicate stuff sometimes.

Matt
09-21-2007, 01:57 PM
This is done now, didn't hurt a bit huh?

There is now an option to "open in a larger window" so that the TV stations can be viewed more easily.

I'm glad to hear that, I made the change in about 3 minutes...had kid crisis, then posted.

However, I am glad to hear things are running smoothly now. :couple:

**Aaron posting**

Just to let everyone know, this morning at 11:28 Jack Sawyer Jensen was born. He was a little bit early, so he is a bit small, but he is healthy as a whip and just precious. Hannah is doing okay, though she is having to stay under observation for a couple of days, due to her blood condition. We will have pictures up as soon as we are able; we're just a little overwhelmed with everything at the moment.

I have turned a setting on that allows us to see which of our guests are search engine bots and spiders

As we all know, many of them often are

In doing that, I saw MSN out there. Went and used their search engine to look for the phrase "the dark tower". First page on MSN :D

Matt
09-22-2007, 08:53 AM
There is a category drop down and one of the options is TV Stations...I only have two in there and the SciFi one is hit and miss.

I'm looking for cool yet reliable sources for it.

Matt
09-22-2007, 09:03 AM
That BBC talk show in there seems pretty consistent and the download thread for the modification has a site that lists a bunch of them. I just haven't had a chance to check it out.

Couple of things--

I have modified the link in the tool bar to say "home" when you are in the forum and "palaver" when you are on any of the other pages. Simple but slick.

There is also a link to DTbay up there now.

ZoNeSeeK

is it something like having to find out information about a particular person?

Jon
10-08-2007, 08:26 PM
Well the ones I saw were pics such as "Find a blue car with the hood up in front of an adult book store" or some such. The point of it was that it was not a pic one could easily Google.

Matt
10-09-2007, 08:29 AM
I will start a thread for this you guys. Sorry to forget about it. :beat:

In other news:

The King Catalog (http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/showthread.php?t=974) has been added to our Collectors page (http://www.thedarktower.org/collectors) on the site.

Matt

Did you have a look Patrick, it's real slick out there.

I am going to have to start advertising that page alone with collector sites.

Patrick
10-14-2007, 01:27 PM
I'm brain-dead, I can't find that page.

I like what you've done in the adjustments to DTBay, though. :)

Matt
10-14-2007, 01:29 PM

Its right here.

http://www.thedarktower.org/collectors

its under the catalog section in the middle

also a link to it should be on all the sides of the site pages, little nav panel.

Yep, I think that html for DTbay is just about done. I like the old guy with the books.

Matt

WOOHOO!!

Glad you like it.

Okay you guys, I found a cool thing out there called Casino for Vbulletin--its going to do a bunch of things we already have but the important part it that it includes Texas Hold'um

and also this:

Sportspool
The sports pool works as a pool, so all the money bet goes into a pool which is divided amongst the winners. So if outcome "A" has 150 bet on it, and outcome "B" has 250 bet on it there is 400 in the pool. If outcome "A" wins, and I had put the entire 150 in, I would win the entire 400. If I had bet 50 of the 150 I would get back 50 / 150 x 400. Or a 3rd of the pot, as I had placed a 3rd of the bet on the winning outcome.

Payout on the event is always 100% of the pot, divided amongst the winners based on the portion they put in, so there are no fixed odds or odds entered. So if no one bets on the loosing outcome, return is exactly what you put in. On the otherside if someone bets 1 on the winning outcome, and others had put a total of 5000 on the losing outcome, betting 1 gives you a 5001 return.

I did this for ease of setup, as I'm not good at setting odds or searching them out a few days before when they show up on other lines. So odds are set based on who bets on what, not a fixed line. As bets are placed the "odds" reflect what is getting bet on.

The money is virtual.

So expect to see a new thing with this, I think it could be fun because it allows multi players in one game unlike the current arcade stuff.

Arcade will stay along with the casino games in there

Daghain

Texas Hold 'em? EXCELLENT! :D

Matt

Nope, mine just kind of stick up in the left corner. There's a green ghost and a white one, from what I can tell. They keep pasting over top of each other.

When I click to go to Palaver index, all the witches collect at the top of my page and wiz back and forth, and the page doesnt load, and the first time I waited several minutes. When I minimize and refresh my screen the page loads instantly and the witches fall normally.

It's no big deal now that I know the solution but I thought you should be aware of the problem. :)

EDIT: I meant restore.

Matt

Couple of major updates this weekend. Some internal, some external.

For external...we have a new Casino update and something for DTbay.

I mostly just post it here so people will have a heads up if they experience weirdness or any slight slowdash tomorrow morning

http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k291/mishemplushem/Facilitation/thankyou295.gif

(prior to that, I did it as follows: Frunobulax time is mine +1, am/pm reversed... thus, if mine is 9am, his is 10pm... of the previous day... then everyone else's time was calculated from Fruno time eastwards... that was more than a bear could take...)

Whats the method of the backup, Matt? How big are the db files?

As the site grows it may be worthwhile looking at having a daily backup when the site has its lowest traffic levels.

Matt
11-21-2007, 02:17 PM
I was thinking about that. The .sql file for the forum is huge, the gallery is not so bad but I believe I can simply cover up the old back up each time and set the timer to do it in the middle of the night.

I'm going to look into that.

ZoNeSeeK
11-22-2007, 12:44 PM
There are backup processes that only work on "if something has been changed" - i.e. new DB entries or altered ones - so its not writing the same old data every night, which would be ideal for a forum.

Matt
11-22-2007, 02:16 PM
That's a good suggestion--do you know of software that would do that Josh (free)?

ZoNeSeeK
11-22-2007, 06:03 PM
um :) nah, not too sure, its probably all heavily licensed though ..

Hang on, your web hosts would do a daily backup as standard.

Matt
11-23-2007, 06:00 AM
They will do one for 5 bucks an instance <_<

but folks gotta make money somewhere I guess. Right now, I can basically just save a zip file to my local drive. The forum one is about 14MB--not too bad at all yet.

I'll see what else the host can do for me. I had them do it once when I put an add on in (I was scared of it)--but that was a while ago
