View Full Version : Stephen King dated inscriptions needed

Much like I did the thread and wiki article with legitimate King sigs from 1980 to present, I would like to create another reference with at least one (but the more the better) King inscription from present to as far back as possible. The clearer the image, and the more lengthy or insider the inscription the better. PM me please with the images.

Thanks to 3 members who have helped so far.
My idea is to create a wiki article(s) that chronologically shows every King inscription I can find. If I title the article(s) and tag-words properly, members can search by year, month, name, reference etc.

I'm scouring eBay for any interesting ones, but most I'm finding are the regular "best wishes" types:

We also need to verify the legitimacy of each one. Before I catalog it, hopefully members will verify/deny the authenticity.

Should we also collect the simple "best wishes" ones? Just for posterity's sake, especially if it is dated?

Knock yourself out (save the file). I am looking for inscriptions that are dated. Thus it hopefully contains the recipients name, words, and a date.

See, now I would have said this one is a fake ... it looks nothing like his later stuff. And wouldn't you think the inscription is just too perfect, I mean the very first book he ever signed? Would you believe it if it was on eBay rather than Heritage? No way! I'm assuming they have a substantial paper trail of ownership to provide a lock-tight provenance.

I don't like it--I don't care if it's offered by Heritage or not--I just don't like the signature whatsoever. I'm talking about the first one mentioned, to Flip and Karen.

This is from a CARRIE ARC (it sold for over $11,000) - the auction was discussed here when it was announced and I don't think anyone doubted its legitimacy.

Didn't keep a link. Just searched the Heritage completed auctions. That was really one of the best King items I have ever seen for sale. Truly remarkable. But, personally, I just couldn't generate much desire to own it. I think it was the fact that the inscription page was loose from the rest of the book. I think if that wasn't the case I would have been a serious player.

It's mine, inscribed to me, and is completely valid. Only odd thing about it is, it was actually received in '91, not 1990 as per in the inscription. Like many of us, King hadn't yet got used to writing the new year, so accidentally wrote the previous year, i.e. it should have read 1/4/91, not 1/4/90. Not sure if that makes any difference for the purposes of this thread.

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone...I'll be sure to make it more of a priority to post than to just lurk. Regrettably, I don't have the knowledge or vast collections of King's work that many here have -- I fell away from being a Constant Reader sometime around the mid-'90s after a few too many disappointments, then waded back in for a short while with THE GREEN MILE and BAG OF BONES...then had my interest in King's work fully ignited again with UNDER THE DOME and, especially, 11/22/63 (got the signed limiteds of both of those, in fact). They both brought back that familiar buzz I used to get Back in the Day reading King's now classic work. I'm really looking forward to DR. SLEEP and JOYLAND, and it's great to once again look forward to King's work...it's a feeling I missed for far too long.

RC65, don't worry that you think your collection is not large or you don't have the knowledge. We ALL started small. And as you read more on the site, you'll learn lots!

Getting there. 2005 and 2006 are missing. I have over 100 inscriptions. I am trying to figure out the best way to post them. 100+ huge images in 1 post could be very slow to load.

catalog?

Yes. But I may divide them up into ~10 posts to speed loading. Either that or use the spoiler tag-but I'd prefer not to do it that way.

Yeah, I think a wiki catalog by year would be best.

Jerome, whichever way you decide to post the by year signatures - a big thank you!

This is something I've wanted for awhile to direct compare King signatures by year to better sniff out the forgeries (and it is just cool). Most fakes are poor quality and obvious, but a few are harder to verify based on his changing penmanship.

Also, I got the DJ - it is great - thanks!

Still need 2005, and a 2013 would be cool also.

Has a 2013 signature you could use until you get an inscription. I sent him a message asking if he would allow it.

Make it into a poster titled: Is it real or is it Brennan? (or something else)
Use nice quality paper... Seriously, I would buy a copy in a heartbeat.

I never though of a poster (broadside?). Probably a great idea that when implemented would have little demand.

I asked King to sign my CD IT book when he came to UMass last year. Spoilering just in case it's too big.

Make them a limited numbered edition.... Perhaps you can get SK to sign..

If not there is always.......... "He who won't be named "

Stuck missing 2005.

My Gunslinger, Carrie, 'Salem's Lot and W&G are all from '05 but sadly he didn't date them (they are in my thread, 1st page). This was at the Barnes & Noble/New Yorker Festival signing in Union Square, NYC - 9/24/05.

I still am missing atcual inscriptions from 2004 and 2005.
I suppose I could create the article and add the missing years when/if they appear.
I am considering grouping the pics in sets of ~10 and spoiler tagging them so that one can click on certain sets and have quick image loading.
If I posted 125+ pics in one post, it could take a very long time to load for anyone without a super high-speed internet connection.

Yes. Won the pet auction in INdiana and his florida neighbor hand delivered it to him. It was his personal copy. Thanks to everyone here for their help in getting the inscription right. The only thing he did not do was draw the balloon from IT!

But I was still pretty darn happy
