Please vote in the poll.

You guys may have noticed the sub forums for the main forums are now visible.

Is it to cluttered? Do you like being able to see whats there?

Let the site know what you think.

I voted "Great-I like them a lot". I've been wanting something like this, especially for The Baronies section of the message board, for awhile now.

I think you know how I voted.

I think it would be better without the little blue and white pages in there (which I realize defeats the purpose) but I think that might be what makes it look so cluttered.

as i saw the title of the thread, i was thinking to myself "i wonder if there will be a 'meh' option?" and there was!

i could go either way...regarding the subforums.

I could take them or leave them, because I almost always navigate the site via the new posts link anyway.

i feel i must say that i'm not a fan of the little page icon thingys...whatever they're called. i'm assuming they're tied into this change?

Daghain

Yeah, I really think that's what bugs me the most. I wonder if that's an option that can be removed and still keep the lists up.

I think that those are what lets you know wether or not there are unread posts in the subforms. White ones mean unread posts, grey ones mean no unread posts.

Daghain

Exactly. I'm not sure there's another way it can be done.

I don't use the view new posts function, so I like seeing the subforums with the little white/gray page icons. The icons are the added value, without them I wouldn't care about seeing the subforums.

It definitely does look too cluttered, but I voted "great" nevertheless, because it is convenient.

I don't use "new posts" either - so I voted great :)

For my part I like them a lot. I can get lost so easily in real life and here as well it gives me help.

I always use the unread post link to browse the forum so the sub forums dont bother me either so i voted "yu....Meh" :D

I use New Posts for about half the forums, and I always prefer visible structure to concealed.
I definitely do not like the blue, though, which has nothing to do with the color scheme of the site (to my half-blind eye anyway).

i like it, the icons are a little icky but the links are so badass. and it shows off the contents of the forum a little more right there on the main page, lets random guests and new people see how much is here, that's sorta cool.

I'm not a fan of the visible sub-forums, imo, it is too cluttered.

I like seeing the sub-forums, but the icons are a little awkward with the brown background, especially the blue ones.

Jean
12-12-2007, 08:43 AM
hear, hear!

Daghain
12-12-2007, 08:47 AM
Yeah, would there be a way to just color the link to the subforums? Or just take the little icons out? That would help.

Matt

All or nothing folks :D

I am researching the possibility of a drop down so folks can click that and view them.

That's like saying I love the moon but hate the wind.

I'm not sure the issue with the little icons, they totally match the site as there are plenty of blues in the banner...

We'll keep taking comments but its this or nothing. :grouphug:

I think I drop down would probably be less user-friendly.

Common fact that bears are allergic to blues :excited: where as i love the blue icons :D

Jean

why can't we make them green or dark orange or brown, or even red? I've already heard some humans, not only bears, say the same.

Seriously. I've just had another look. They are like poor people's robes in squalid hospitals.

As someone said recently--I'm no coder.

I'm sure I might be able to dig far down into the sql database and figure how to change the color but these things are based on the skin we are using.

Meaning, they made it blue because of our skin. If our skin was another color, they would be too.

That is some pretty serious hard coding on the site there. I would much rather not use it than try to hack into something like that.

Hmmmm...can't do it, sorry you guys.

I personally think the blue works well, much better than another color would. And it has a gradient.

Kevin
12-12-2007, 09:07 AM
What is the difference between the white and the blue pages?

Brice
12-12-2007, 09:07 AM
They are different colors.

Storyslinger

Ta Da

Really it makes no never mind to me, because I never go in there

Kevin
12-12-2007, 09:08 AM
Well of course, but do the different colors mean anything? Like read, unread...or posted in since last visit...or...I dunno...something??

Matt
12-12-2007, 09:09 AM

White means there are un read posts in the sub forum

Daghain
12-12-2007, 09:20 AM
I don't object to the color, they just look like visual clutter to me.

But we all know how I am about clutter.

I'm getting more used to them now...well, actually I'm just tring to ignore them. :D

I've always been a big proponent of as many subforums as needed to divide broad topics into more specified ones within the same overall subject matter.
