I would have to agree with becca and ELazansky on this. I have never seen a PC copy of any book that included future rights. The problem being that there is no guarentee that there will be the same amount of copies left over for game as there was for clash. It's my understanding that extra copies are produced in case there are any problems with a lettered or numbered edition. Once all of the lettered and numbered are sent out they may be left with a handful of copies which then become PC copies. It is also common practice for sub press to just reopen the original product page to sell the PC copies. I could see how this may be confusing but I think Bill is under the impression that most people just realize a PC copy doesn't include future rights. Maybe I am way out in left field here, but that is how I see things. In the end Bill has the final say so contacting him would be your best bet. He is a very reasonable fellow and I'm sure you could work something out with him. Whatever happens I am interested in hearing the outcome. Best of luck to ya priest.

It's too late now, but last week George RR Martin did offer the possibility to buy the fact of being a character in his next book, and be killed with a grisly death.
The cost was $ 20K and "As The Hollywood Reporter notes, the two contest spots were nabbed within hours, with eight others added to a waiting list in hopes of an epic slaying."

That's insane. I didn't think they would sell that quickly (or at all) for that price. Dang! Looks like all the big ticket items are gone. He also raised the goal since it was reached so quickly. Those wolves will be livin' large!

Do George Martin make "regularly" some signing?
Because... well, he'll be visiting France (about 2h away from Paris). The shite part being... it's a THURSDAY, signature from 2pm to 6pm.
That's quite a big timeslot, but it's not really a big city. On a thursday.

Even though I havent read any of his books, it's shite that it's on a thursday when I gave my notice and cant really take anymore day off, i guess...
There is even a contest to win a VIP meeting with the author.

It's a middle size city, and even if there will be Game of Thrones events the night before and stuff, I wouldnt really by surprised if the 4h timeslot is kind of wasted as... "empty". For instance, when Orson Scott Card (which is quite famous too!), was in Paris in september (?), I went to the bookstore and I literally had to wait... 2 minutes before getting a book signed!

Actually... I'm gonna ask my contact at the publisher if maybe they could get me a signed book.

George goes to a lot of Conventions. I've seen him twice since last October. I'm not sure how often he goes to France but he does go to Europe quite a bit. I bet part of that signing time will actually be a reading or Q&A or both. He read a bit of the new History of Westeros book coming out when I was at CarolinaCon a few weeks ago and that took up about 1 hour.

If you can somehow get out of work, I would go :ninja:

PS - And start reading :wtf:

I have a conundrum. I'm thinking of selling my set of SoIF 1st editions. All of them are signed. All are in great to slightly less great shape. The first two books are signed to me. The other three are flat signed.
Not sure if I really want to sell them. But I figure interest is at an all time high. And money's tight with me being out of work for four years. And my wife losing her job soon.

What would y'all do?

I would keep the personalized copies (plus those are the hardest to get) and sell the other 3 that are flatsigned.

becca69

I think issue price was $275?? I can't really remember. The lowest I've seen it so far is $700. That's a fair price. All the others are way over valued IMO.

Proud to finally call this edition my own. Was able to get it on a counter offer for less than the last one I tried to bid on. Still pricier than I would have liked but only 1500 copies of this were printed.

Congratulations, Becca - that's one gorgeous book.
I bought one myself way back in 1996, assuming this would be the first part of a trilogy, ready to be read around the year 2000, on completion of the series.
(I never start reading a series before it's finished.)
And here we are, almost 20 years later, waiting for book VI.
And yes, mine are still unread.....

Issue price was $295. I think between $700-$800 is about right for a fair value. I wouldn't pay $1000 that some people are asking even though I believe both book swill be worth that or more eventually.

He has also mentioned publishing his "GRRMarillion" for the series once it is complete.

Of course I have to be there, but George will only sign copies of The Hedge Knight and The Sworn Sword, plus one other item.
And here's my question: which item would you chose? I don't really have an extensive Martin library, so my choice is limited. My first choice would be my 1st/1st A Game of Thrones (Voyager), and as I'm taking a friend, also the Voyager A Clash of Kings,(1st/1st as well) as they're my favorite Martin editions.

Hi All,

Any interest in acquiring a lettered ASoIaF set? Mine's letter 'F', I've made a couple of half-hearted attempts to sell the set before, but I didn't follow up.

My set is complete, including the new Subterranean ACoK, as well as the original MM AGoT, ACoK, Sub ASoS, AFfC, ADwD, every bookmark, chapbook, etc. that came with the books. Of course it comes with the rights to all things 'F' in the future in this series.

I'll also post over in westeros.org as soon as I remember my password over there =).

I don't know what the current benchmark is - I remember a couple of lettered sets were sold 2 yrs ago at $15k each, so that would probably be a baseline - the sets have acquired ADwD and Sub's ACoK since those sales.

Limited. I didn't see any lettered editions available. They either sold out in 30 seconds or weren't available.

I was able to grab one of the lettered editions and it didn't sell them out. I'd be interested to see how many they actually had.
Just the right place at the right time.

I'm surprised they let you buy another lettered since you already have a lettered set. My husband tried to buy a limited ADWD and his order was cancelled the next day (one per household rule).

I sold my lettered set this summer, so this will be the only copy I own.
I believe they are actually numbered/lettered and not PC.

Out of curiosity, what price are you looking at?

I don't know what the current benchmark is - I remember a couple of lettered sets were sold 2 yrs ago at $15k each, so that would probably be a baseline - the sets have acquired ADwD and Sub's ACoK since those sales.

Hi, might be interested in the lettered Martins. I'm new to this site so not sure how this works. How can we get in contact?

I'm new to this site also, not sure how to PM here =).

In any event, I just created an email address: asoiaf.lettered.set@gmail.com - please ping me at this address if you want to discuss anything about the set.

Thanks!

I was on the fence about AGOT but looking at it I'm not crazy about the art and $300 is still way too much for me for an individual book. I'm not going to get too worked up about it; "I can't afford this premium book" is the definition of a first world problem. A little disappointing that a gift edition wasn't available but Bill told me that was a rights issue so them's the breaks.

Do you have purchase rights for AGOT?
If you do and can afford to cover the $300 cost for a few months, I would say buy it and flip it.
It's AGOT, you will not have an issue selling it for at least double that.

Just check ebay and see how much the extra clash of kings were going for shortly after they were shipped - they sold for $550-600 - a couple of hundred dollars over issue price

High priced clash of kings on sale at camelot for $750 - kim states it has rights to get game of thrones - which for some might be worth that higher price to get Agot at issue:

It looks like it's just the season 1&2 and 3&4 HC books that you can get separately on Amazon

http://www.amazon.com/Inside-HBOs-Game-Thrones-Seasons/dp/1452110107/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1418740498&sr=8-2&keywords=Inside+game+of+thrones+seasons&pebp=1418740586802

Plus those are each $24/25

In the forbidden planet description it says : "Both of these official companion books" - so my only assumption it's just the same two books in a slip case? Also soon after hbo released the regular edition - they came out with their deluxe set for season 1&2 - so I'll have to check if something similar is set for seasons 3&4 (otherwise I'll probably get the regular edition).

I have an extra copy of the first printing, signed by Patrick Rothfuss and including the "Bast-Off" limited edition/numbered sketch card. A friend had taken a copy around for me, and that copy has a dozen or so signatures--but not GRRM, alas--so this one becomes expendable. Send me a PM if interested; asking $50 shipped.

We also have both the limited and lettered editions of the SubPress edition on order, both with remarques (one is for the GRRM, the other is the Rothfuss, I forget which). I don't need both. As above, PMs are welcome.

I actually got another one from keplers - only signed by grrm - but fortunately that was a 1/1 - just a few weeks back - that one was a little rough (DJ that is) - they didn't have any more though. I'd have to go back to the store and check but I think it was either Rogues or Dangerous Women whose later printings had a DJ with a different colours. If there are images of actual books for sale, that might be an easy way to determine 1st vs. later printing.

Just curious. What is the realistic value of a 1st/1st Game of Thrones US or UK. I know there is some dispute as to which was the true first. I think it leans towards the UK being the true 1st.

becca69
01-05-2015, 01:48 PM
I think $400-600 for a US and $700-900 for UK (fine to near fine condition). More if signed. Most of the prices I see are over-inflated. An auction type listing will give you a closer to market value price than those BIN listings. Finding copies in that price range just takes patience.

And this is what GRRM says about the first edition:
"The Bantam 1996 edition was the true first, as I see things. It had a silver foil cover with an embossed throne but no other illustration. That one has become quite valuable, and seems to sell for $200 to $600 (depending on condition), the last time I checked.

The HarperCollins/ Voyager 1996 edition was the British first. Its official publication date was earlier than that of the Bantam edition, but Bantam went to print several months early to hand out copies at the ABA, so I consider theirs the true first. However, the British edition had a much smaller print run. As a consequence, it is much rarer, and even more valuable. I’ve seen it selling for anywhere from $800 to $1500 on the internet."

I had my UK 1st/1st (Voyager, and unread in mint condition) signed by GRRM in London last year. he looked at the book - loped a bit closer and asked me: Do you know what you have here? Do you have any idea what this book sells for?
I pretended not to know and George valued it around $2000.00. Just an author's pride speaking here or close to the truth?

It's always possible if it's a perfect copy and signed... just have to find the right buyer. There are some listings for sale at that price but I don't know if any have sold that high.

I made the mistake of not purchasing a copy in publisher's shrink wrap and it ended up selling for less than $350 a few years ago (and no it wasn't a BCE). I still kick myself over that one.

Yeah.. only 20 copies left so I am guessing those sold out in the first few minutes. Probably had 1000 people trying for those 20 copies. Sorry if you didn't get one :(

A Game of Thrones & A Clash Of Kings George R R Martin Subterranean Press Set goes for $1,200 - $2000

I think it will probably go for closer to the $1200 than the $2000. I think CoK copies were only selling for around $700 and that was to get GoT I assume. I'm thinking $1200-$1500 maybe? Heck I'd sell my set in a heart beat for $2000! lol

If I remember correctly CoK was $295 and GoT was $305. Something like that.

Saw the email 20 minutes after it was sent - they were all gone by then. Not like I could buy another one through subpress though. Since Bill would only allow one copy per address/cc. I bought another book at same time - so not sure about exact cost - but it was right around $300. The lettered wasn't that much more - now that was a "deal"

I am so glad I started a numbered set when I did - even though ASoS is a PC, all the other Sub Press books will match.

I don't think so - those books are much higher, if you even find them for sale.

You're probably right - I guess I was thinking who could be selling a Sub Press set since the book hasn't come out yet.

And congrats on the marriage!

The MM ACOK is probably the cheapest of all the S/L, but AGOT goes for a couple of thousand on its own.
I suspect the SP AGOT could hit $1000-1200 since there's a lot of demand.

I'll have an extra set of AGOT and ACOK once they are release, but those won't be up for sale until I have them.

I, admittedly, do not know squat about this series. However, my son is a huge fan. I have been buying signed copies for him for Christmas the last few years and screwed up and doubled up on "Feast". He needs Vol I and III signed so I am in the market for either with the caveat that you will accept installment payments and the signed "Feast" in any deal. I'm a very honest guy and expect the same honesty in any dealings here. I don't want "favors" I am fully prepared to pay fair market value, I just trust that anyone offering will know what that is, as I have little knowledge of the market for these books.

Having said all that, it would make me really happy to make my son really happy and take one step closer to completing his collection. So I am throwing myself open to anyone that can help, in any way!!!

We were able to squeeze in an order for the Subterranean Press signed set GAME OF THRONES:

Thank you, but I try to keep it simple. I am looking for a signed 1/1 of either Vol I or III. I'm probably not going to track him down for a signature, but my son could so I would consider a deal for a 1/1 GoT (Vol I) as I know they are expensive. I'm a real "newbie" in this arena and need my hand held.

Someday I hope to have a copy of the S/L HC (Sub. Press) of FEVRE DREAM. Unlike most here, I'm not much of a fan of GOT, let alone fantasy in general, but I've always found FEVRE DREAM to be an outstanding horror novel.

I've never even seen the lettered edition, but I can imagine the production values if Sub Press pulled out the stops. I'd be perfectly satisfied w/ the signed/numbered edition, though. :)

I've yet to find it for less than $300+, though, so it likely won't be added to my shelves anytime soon, unfortunately.

Good question,
it is the same location as the Stephen King bookreading event... too many people for a normal signature event.
There are no infos but i think.... raffled signed books ?!?
But for the safety I of course take 1-2 first editions...:coo3l:

Well, the "new" slipcased editions are going to take as long as writing book six it seems. I pre-ordered just in case they are the same I could get a new slipcase for my Game of Thrones, but Amazon says:

Unfortunately, the release date for the item(s) listed below was changed by the supplier, and we need to provide you with a new estimated delivery date based on the new release date:

Martin, George R. R. "A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, Book 1)"
Estimated arrival date: January 23 2017 - January 27 2017

Seriously - TWO YEARS????

Not really a collectible question but who's read both Hunter's Run and the novella it was based on, Shadow Twin? Which should I read first? Picked up a UK First at a used shop today and I've had ST on the shelf for awhile.
