Hi Guys. I got inspired to post my collection after receiving my first King related remarque. I figure you are the only people who appreciate this stuff anyway. My family sure doesn't!

WOW! VERY nice stuff Rebecca! I am impressed. I'm not a remarque collector but I really like that FDNS one. Are those the lettered Secretary of Dreams?

becca69
12-12-2011, 03:12 PM
EDIT: Oops,I thought you said limited. They are the limited not the lettered.

Thanks. And yes they are. I wish I would have put that money towards a limited It though. I had one in my cart ready to check out and realized I just couldn't afford it right then :(

(Somehow the universe felt my tears and I won a $100 CD gift certificate in a contest and was able to order the gift edition. lol)

Thanks so much. I know it's not very large like some of the awesome stuff around here but I get what I like and what I can afford. None of my family or friends get my book collecting obsession (it started with King and Anne Rice and have moved on to a little bit of everything). They think I should just sell it... they don't get me. Haha.

You have a nice collection, Rebecca. Do you still collect Anne Rice? I collect her books too. I don't really like to read her newer stuff but I still keep the collection going.

Welcome to Calvin's Corner.

12-12-2011, 06:32 PM
Thanks. Your collection makes me weep! :)

Yes I still collect Anne Rice. I have all the US firsts plus a few UK firsts including the Mummy HC, and a few of her limiteds. Most are signed or have bookplates that I requested from her website. She is actually going to go back to her old style of writing... I think with wolves this time. I will try to get some pics.

p.s. - My sad, sad story. While I was living in Tampa, just out of college, Anne Rice came to Daytona for a free outdoor book signing. The line went for miles and miles. It was 102 degrees outside. I took the day off, drove 3 or so hours, waited in line with about 15 books, by myself, for 7 hours. When I got to the front of the line, I was told she was tired and couldn't sign anything else. To this day, I've never gotten to meet her in person although I was within arms length of her. And on an opposite note, somehow I've met Stephen King 5 times. Strange.

Lately I've been reading Diana Gabaldon and George R.R. Martin, so of course I had to find 1st editions. I got to meet Diana this summer and she signed bookplates for all my books. Very nice lady. Sometimes I really hate my obsession with collecting books. It was easier when it was just King and Rice.

Some Anne Rice 1sts & Limiteds

A very nice Rice collection. I hadn't heard anything about newer stuff maybe about wolves like you mentioned. I really, really enjoyed the first five or so vampire books and then, starting I guess with THE VAMPIRE ARMAND, I thought they got really boring. Looking forward to a new direction if that is what she is planning. Nice photos. Thanks for posting them.

i'm bitter because of the publisher. my under the dome was damaged and it took forever to get it taken care of. then the whole cluster with 11/22/63. i had one in my cart at 8:59 that day and then got shut out completely from the site after i tried to check out. i continually tried to call and email the company to try and help me secure a book. they refused to help in any way so i hate them all. i like to send them hate mail when i have nothing to do :D

p.s not to mention tom gordon limited. i had to cancel that order due to the overwhelmingly high price.

p.p.s. oh yeah and their quality control is crap.

Yeah, I'm afraid I used up all my swear words for the week when trying to get the 11-22-63 signed book too. Ordering the UTD was a snap though and it came in brand new shape. Never did take the shrinkwrap off . I finally got an 11-22-63 and had to pay a little more, but I bought it from someone here and the transaction was more then satisfactory.

becca69
12-20-2011, 05:59 AM
i didn't know my dome was damaged until i unwrapped it. it was a publishing thing - the boards were messed up like something was spilled on them. i also wanted to make sure they included the signature page.

glad you were able to get the new one. i was offered one but i'm just not willing to dish out the money for it. it's the principle. the sad thing is i still want one. it's what they should have done with dome - something different than the trade.

I almost never take the shrinkwrap off my books (I know I know, shame on me), and now I'm AFRAID to take it off UTD and 11-22-63. I'll just leave it on and assume the best!

Thanks. I get obsessive about certain books and then I can't help myself. Originally I vowed only to collect King & Rice but that went out the window a long time ago. I need to win a book lottery or something.

DO you like the new UK Martin books? I bought GoT, and I think it is just OK. I liked the Barnes and Noble edition better, but I don't think they are making the rest of the series. Then Amazon had their 4-book special set which looked nice as well. I know everyone is capitalizing on the series success, but I'm afraid that all of the books won't get produced in the same way...eventually.

becca69
02-03-2012, 02:00 PM
I didn't get the B&N edition yet just for that reason. Although I had it in my hands yesterday. Very tempting. What makes it nicer to you?

I want them to match and at least they are available thru book 5. I do like the look of them but they could have been nicer inside... maybe some illustrations, gilt edges, etc.

ELazansky
02-04-2012, 04:14 AM
The UK edition is basically just the book. The B&N edition has maps for the endpapers, a few interviews and Q&A for Martin, along with a preview of the comic book series. Plus I like the cover design and slipcase art. When I bough mine, with coupons, etc., it cost me $25. Much cheaper than the UK editions. I really hope B&N decided to issue more book once the next season starts on HBO

Well since I'm still waiting for my WTTKW S/L and artist editions, I'll post this for you George R.R. Martin fans... (sorry for the crappy iPhone pics)

The original dust jacket that was supposed to be used for A Feast for Crows until Walmart made the publisher change the art. One of about 30 proofs, signed by the artist. Fully foiled and embossed, only missing the barcode/isbn info. Cool huh?

Strange that Walmart would want that cover pulled. Didn't look offensive by any means. Odd!

becca69
03-07-2012, 01:09 PM
It wasn't offensive at all. They wanted a newer looking design that had a larger audience appeal. They said it was too fantasy looking - lol. The one they used is a really terrible cover! They should have had the series match. The artist was supposed to do all the books.

These jackets were headed for the dump.

Thanks. The two trade editions were in one eBay auction that was poorly listed (I love those). I was missing Clash and I needed a better copy of Swords anyway. I actually have an extra signed copy of Dance I picked up when he was touring for the book. I just haven't thought about listing it here.

Thanks guys. I really want to put all the Kings in the big wall of shelves but I want them all behind glass and when I got the shelves I thought it looked better with the half glass shelves with the one full one in the middle, now if feel like that's messed up how I've been able to display the books. I don't know why my husband refused to build me a library addition?? He won't even let me take off the door to this room so I can put another shelf there. So lame. I'll have to work on him!

And no, I haven't read all the books but I would say that I've read 85-90% of them. And the cases are just Ikea Billy bookcases with the glass doors added. I would really love to have those nice expensive cases that Bob has. Actually I would just love to have his books too! lol

And here is the other half shelves just to round it out. My office is stuffed.

Not really sure what they mean about "Olde English" except that they are set in an alternate (fantasy) medieval type period? If you like the show then I think you would like the books too, they are wonderful - great characters (as long as you don't get too attached to anyone :nope:)

We had a big weekend. Got to see the not-yet released movie The Host with Q&A (Stephenie Meyer, Max Irons & Jake Abel). Stephenie Meyer book signing at the Free Library of Philadelphia and then the Neil Gaiman/Adam Rex book signing in NYC.

P.S. - I do not want to hear from any haters about my Twilight books... if you have nothing nice to say, you know the drill! :emot-flame:

Here are some of the pics from the store. I still have to take some of the signatures. He signed 3 copies of Chu's Day, Coraline, Stardust ARC, Stardust Gift, The Dangerous Alphabet, Anansi Boys and Fragile Things for us.
