Dearest Ari,

Best of luck to you, I know you can do anything you set your mind and heart to.

I still think you are completely insane. Get out now while you still can!

Lovingly,
- Patrick

I think I might do this if it were around here anywhere (we should organize it Aaron).

But I would need some kind of "old man handicap" I think, perhaps I only have to walk 3 MPH?

Patrick
11-26-2007, 05:11 PM
 It doesn't look like there is any minimum speed unless I missed something. They better not organize one of these around here - I'd be too tempted to do it.

Matt
11-26-2007, 05:12 PM
:o

I should read it. Wasn't the minimum speed in the book 4 MPH? That is a seriously break neck pace.

(I tried it)

Maybe, it's been too long since I read the book. If you trained at all, a 15-minute mile would be pretty easy for the first six or eight hours or so.

I think this competition has rest breaks, so it's not quite as brutal as in the book. Plus, you know, they don't kill you for not winning.

Matt

Yeah... that left out all kinds of stuff <_<

<kicks dirt>

I think I could do it for most of the day, then things would go badly. At 4 MPH that is.

Patrick
11-26-2007, 05:24 PM
I agree. I'd slow down significantly around dinnertime.

Figure at 15-minute miles (4 MPH) you would do a full marathon (26.2 miles) in just over 6-1/2 hours. Like I said, a little training and you could totally do that.

Now what happens after that... No wonder the kids in the story were dropping like flies.

Matt
11-26-2007, 05:26 PM
yeah, I think it was 4 days when all said and done.

4 MPH the whole way...I really need to read that story again.

Patrick

I guess the threat of death is a great motivator. Otherwise I wouldn't believe that pace for that long.

Ari_Racing
11-26-2007, 06:25 PM
Nope, I didn't have training, but I don't smoke and I usually play soccer once a week.

The truth is that I'm taking part of this just for fun :) Hope I win it but I haven't consider that too much :)

Aaron

Yeah, it was 4MPH in the book. If we could come up with a source of money for a prize, we could totally organize something like this in correlation to the site. Create our own rules to make it coincide with the story as much as possible. 4mph, no breaks, 30 second warnings, three warnings and you're out.

<sigh>

A bigger prize, though. That's what will get people to push themselves and make it interesting. And I just don't see anyone being able to put together the prize offered in the story. I'm gonna keep track of this.

Congrats dude, that's awsome. Wish it came to one city near me, then I would be hitting the walk! :)

Edit: This is my post number 19!

Patrick

A momentous moment in JasKo's posting history!

So, Ari, is there a minimum speed?
How often do you get breaks and for how long?
Do you have a good pair of running (walking) shoes?

Ari_Racing

I finally couldn't take part. They required that the inscribed ones should be in the line at 3:30 pm, so I had to leave the office at 2:45...and my daily schedule is from 9am to 6 pm. My boss didn't allow me and here I am.

Besides...they're still walking!!! 84 hours already! It's the world's record so far.

Sucks you couldn't participate Ari. I am seriously considering organizing one of those around here somewhere. :ninja:

Wow, that quite a walk. Sorry to hear your boss wouldn't let you go. Do you know how often they get to take breaks?

Ari_Racing
12-06-2007, 06:02 AM
Well...it finally ended here.

102 hours!!!

World record!!
Two winners....the organizer decided both won and gave both the price.
