As you can see, there is now a sub forum in here that will become out official links directory. It is in the wiki format and the "articles" that contain the link can be used for links in references and images.

Members of the site will be able to request additions to it in this thread and I would love it if the site we are linking would also link back to us. But its not required.

We should try to stick to the very wide world of Stephen King but I would like to get creative. Links to other book sites, horror--amazon is going in there, stuff like that.

I will, of course, be developing it as we go along with the wonderful input I get from the great members of this site.

Can we get banners with links to this site, to use when posting elsewhere?

Matt
11-17-2007, 11:42 AM
Ah yes! Great idea, I need to add something for that--not sure how to do it though

I'll see if I can size a banner down to start. Thanks Lisa :huglove:

That has been added Lisa--it worked out perfectly and I was even able to provided the embedded code in the article. :nana:

That may not make sense, but it was really cool.

Matt, I tried copying that code into my sig here to test it. No worky. :(

Do I have to replace all the < and > with [ and ] ?

Matt
11-17-2007, 04:44 PM
The board doesn't actually allow an .html in the posts or sigs Patrick.

That would only be for embedding it on a web page. However this one should work for what you need.

I just wanted to mention I spent yesterday adding a whole bunch of links to this. Our distinguished new artist Darek Kocurek from Poland. If you haven't seen his work, check out this thread (http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/showthread.php?t=1423).

We also now have a mention for Mike Beck

also all the software systems that we are using here.

plus many more. If you guys have any suggestions for links to put in this thing please post them here, anything within the world of Stephen King or this site is fair game.

I'd love a link back from the sites we are putting in but as I said, its not required.

Matt,

Looking through the FAQ I was surprised to NOT find any historical data on this site... The who, what when, where and why it was created and thoughts behind it... Would love to know more about these processes and how you keep the engines humming and greased so well...

Hey VastOne--thanks for posting this. I think its a great idea to have the genesis in the FAQ because we are growing so fast. At the beginning, everyone knew the story.

I've been a King fan since I was a teenager (20+ years) but in Nov of 2001, I stumbled upon a fan site for the Dark Tower that had a bunch of cool shit going on. I won't go into what happened there but after a while, I began to realize the fan base could use something a bit more...stable. I tried to buy it but the administration was not interested.

My best friend and partner (Aaron) had been watching the domain market for a while and clued me in to the fact that this domain (thedarktower.org) had become available so I bought it and set out to create the best Dark Tower fan site on the internet. I can say with honesty, that we have done that and much more.

On May 19th of 2007, the site launched with a small fan base and has grown ever since. Now we are getting over 3 million unique hits a month and have drawn the attention of Mr. King himself through an amazing fund raiser we held last year for the Haven Foundation for Freelance Writers. We raised over 3000.00 bucks for charity and I'd like to double it this year. I'd like to think he checks in from time to time.

We have a coveted link on his website and are listed as "The Dark Tower Fan Site" (which I love)

The future is so bright for us and its a labor of love for me and a real dream come true.

The administration is an amazing group of volunteers who tirelessly manage the site for us and keep it going under a structure created by Aaron that runs flawlessly.

I appreciate and engage as many new members as I can because this sites success is really all because of our member base who come here every day and talk about our most favorite subject, but also try hard to create a community of caring friends, which is exactly what I wanted for the place.

I couldn't be more proud. :rose:

Just wondering if it would be acceptable to link to my forum? Dont worry if it is not.

We are a brand new King fan forum covering all of his works and would be eternaly graitfull if it was possable.

I have already linked back to this forum, see below:

pickle
11-21-2008, 02:42 PM
It is, but the internet is a big place with room for more then one forum about the same author, and my forum is about all of Kings works not specificaly the DT. But i understand, thats why i asked if it would be acceptible, as i understand some forums wont link to similer sites.

Matt
11-21-2008, 02:51 PM
Well, actually this site (as you can see) is about all things King.

I really appreciate the link from there to here Pickle but I don't believe we will be able to link back. I sure don't mind if that means you have to take your link down.

I would consider the link in your sig plenty of advertisement in a situation like this so it can stay.

I really appreciate you asking though and I hope your site does well. The exchange would simply be a bit too "disproportionate"

I do hope you will continue to visit and contribute though, your comments here have been great!

I compleatly understand, thats why i thought i would ask :D not a problem at all. I wont be taking the link to here down as this is a amazing forum and the more people find it the better.

Thanks for the comment about my site doing well, its really appreciated. I agree it would be a bit disproportionate, but it was worth asking, as they say you dont get if you dont ask.

And dont worry i didnt join up here to get traffic and plan on sticking around, i have enjoyed it here so far, as i said this site is a really good source of info and very freindly.

Sorry if i caused any problems, just thought i would ask.

Qppa, can you tell us a little bit about your website so we can add a blurb with the link in our links directory? :D

Hmm, in a nutshell our site tell's pretty much everything important a Finnish reader needs to know about Stephen King and his work.
Lists of his written work, film adaptations, more detailed info about Finnish translations, and of course about King himself; his biography, about the accident, who the heck is Bachman etc.
Small Dark Tower section gives a quick peek into magical world of The DT, connections between books, info about main characters.
We alsó have small discussion board and.. emm.. three lazy admins. :cyclops:

..Oh, and the site domain "piina" is also the Finnish title of Misery.

Hannah
