As you probably know, members receive money for starting threads and participation in many threads. We call this money "Beambucks"©™ ® (Patrick's idea). Currently Beambucks can be used in the Casino. We wanted to explore the idea of members being able to use the Beambucks for other purchases.
Some ideas are:

A Birthday banner in all theads.
Buy your own title for your name.
A front page "advertsiement, announcement of your choice. These are only 3, we want your input for other ideas.
We will leave this thread open for 10 days.

Amazing ideas. Really.
I cannot wait to see the new ones. I will think of it, too.

Hmmm... I am sure if I have any idea they will be quite silly so please forgive me right now.

For example:

- To find out some unique titles (5, 10 or 20) that can be just bought and only one person can buy them only once.
They should be quite unique to wake up desires in the people to buy them.
For example...
Roland's lost fingers...
I know it's a damn stupid one but it was just an example.

- People could buy the right to have a bit bigger personal photo.

*vanishes to think*

All the above ideas are great.

I'd buy the rights to a longer signature. :D

What about buying extra PM space? I know some users really hammer their PM boxes and always cry out for more space - is this logistically sound (space wise) with our host?

There would have to be control criteria set up for this when you're dealing with server space, of course .. and if it ends up costing us in real bocks, then trash the idea :D

I think all the above are great ideas, but sadly they were ideas I would have suggested, so...I have nothing to add at the moment

I got nothin', either.

I love the ideas so far, this one is really good.

So, is it safe to assume that since you like the idea it is logitically sound?

Matt
11-13-2007, 07:25 AM
Yep, it could work. I have a huge package

But seriously, we aren't even cracking the amount of space we have for this site on our shared server.

Brice

TMI, maybe???

It wouldn't be a normal day at dt.com if Matt didn't talk about his package at least once. :P

You have known me too long and too well Hannah

the thought of this as a possibility makes me so happy. mine is at 90% capacity again. :(

Brice

mine is there like every week or so. :( I would LOVE this.

it happens to me at least twice a month...and that's with going in and deleting EVERYTHING. 250 isn't a whole lot.

Brice
11-13-2007, 07:13 PM
Oh, I delete nothing. I am obsessive. I have every PM I ever got somewhere or other.

sarajean
11-13-2007, 07:20 PM
i used to save everything, but...i just don't have the room or the time anymore.

Brice
11-13-2007, 07:23 PM
Oh, I just archive it all instead of deleting. Well, I delete the sent messages, but most people quote them in their responses and the ones that don't I can follow the tone of the conversation to figure out what I said.

You might have talked about it before but I missed it so let me pop the question: how much will these things force the members to postwhore?

I really love these ideas I cannot wait to see them on the site (the PM box is one of my favourites) but I am interested in your thoughts.

Hannah
11-14-2007, 08:17 AM
Letti, that won't be a problem as long as posts continue to be relevant to the topic they're posting in.

And I'm guessing these special things aren't going to come cheap. :)

Matt
11-14-2007, 08:34 AM
Oh yeah--not cheap at all.

SJ and Ruki will end up with fucking new york library sized PM archives :)

You would need to have some sort of limit scale, dunno what the pricing would be, but say "able to buy more PM space up to a maximum of 2000 message space storage" or something

sarajean
11-15-2007, 07:05 PM
2000 would be fine. even 500 would be better than just 250.

yes

Patrick

2000??

How about this idea: Let me sell off some of my PM space for BeamBucks. I only need about 10% of the current limit, maybe 15% to have some cushion.

Brice
11-17-2007, 12:16 AM
I'll buy it. :D I need all I can get.

Patrick
11-17-2007, 12:18 AM
I didn't even know how high the limit was until I saw SJ's post upthread. My total PM count total is a whopping 11.

Darkthoughts

Yeah, I'll sell some of mine too - I don't save any of my pm's - or texts or emails for that matter, I think it's to make up for being so untidy in real life

Matt
11-17-2007, 07:22 AM
I get a literal landslide sometimes. But I'm the same, about once every couple of weeks, I just delete all but the last few days.

Being able to sell space would take some work but its an interesting idea :orely:

Jean

I can't stand clutter, so I clean mine out a LOT.
and I always keep everything, out of sentimentality

Got to explain... I have had a very, very hard year in the so-called real life... and it has always happened (I don't want to think it a coincidence) that every time I was down - very, deeply, desperately down - someone sent me a PM. They often (though not always) were people I hardly knew previously, or didn't know at all; they know who they are. Their PM just said something like good day, good morning, nice to have you here, why haven't you been posting, here's a song you might like, isn't it great that people from all over the world are here... Well, I don't want even to archive those PMs, let alone delete them. I look at them time to time, and they warm my heart, and they give me strength; thank you so much my friends. http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k291/mishemplushem/Facilitation/0134-bear.gif

... of course, I will archive sooner or later, like I did with PMs at .net... but better later than sooner.

Patrick

That's a sweet story, Jean. :)

My total count is now down to the single digits. Matt, let me know when you figure how how I can sell a couple hundred PMs worth of space.

Yes, let me know when he can too. :D

I moved this thread here into the Way Station because I am going to put another thread with the actual buy list.

Just wanted to make sure people could still suggest new things for the list right here in the same forum :grouphug:
