Thanks. I was pretty sure it was a forgery based on price but it is often hard for me to tell.
I wonder if some of these people simply don't know they have forgeries?

No doubt there are some who honestly believe they have an authentic signature. If the seller has only ever listed one signed King book for sale I might buy that. If the seller regularly lists signed books, then I think they know what they are doing.

This seller has previously sold forgeries questionable signatures.

The buy it now price just went to $185. It was $95.

I see on the collectors forum someone almost bought this book from a different seller, before they realized it was a BCE. Looks like someone bought it slapped on a new DJ and is reselling it. Don't know why he would lie and say King signed it in front of him, when clearly that's not the case. Not a signature expert, so question is, could this be a genuine sig from the 80's (or 90's or whenever) ? At any rate, he doesn't mention that the book is a BCE even though he slapped on a new DJ.

I've got a pretty good poster and print collection, and every one that is Publisher Proof or Artist Proof is both labeled as such (usually PP - P/P or AP - A/P) and most are numbered with limitation, was obviously produced as such, and many have accompanying provenance documentation. David, could not even get $400 for the Comic Con one last month. I think it ended up selling for around $300. I know we all had disagreements on how many were made but TONS have changed hands. Sony kept some back as I suspected and they were given to people. Ari got one from them... and many others. There was a time (last year I think) where a bunch changed hands on Facebook. I would say a King signed one would be $1250ish and no way would it reach $3K with a dameron remarque. The one on Ebay you showed was authenticated on the FB group and I thought the guy sold it there as he was posting where he got it signed. I would rather than numbered 1/1000 signed as it could match a DT set. But that is just me and I like S/L's. We always differed on this book though haha

If a signed 2nd printing can fetch $1500 on ebay....then I believe that a signed limited edition (the very first edition in fact) with a Dameron remarque could fetch $2000+

Oh how very interesting! It's only in a bare handful of those sigs so it must be an incidental stroke he makes sometimes. And even more intriguing, it goes back to the early 2000s! Also that page makes me a little nostalgic for his 1990s and earlier signature...

It’s so awesome to be able to get a collective opinion about different signatures. I got completely screwed on my first “autographed” book. It looked fine (to my untrained eye) in the photos, but in person it was a very obvious forgery. Doctor Sleep. I got it cheap by auction, which should have warned me then, but I was younger and dumber. I was so disgusted one night that I scribbled through the forgery - now I have a very expensive reading copy.

I won’t ever buy a signature again, unless it’s a S/L or comes from someone reputable. No more eBay sigs!

there was an undeniably ugly ELEVATION signature listed on ebay recently that generated some feedback on facebook. the general consensus was 'worst fake ever'. call me crazy, but im not sure i agree.
after comparing it to a few other recent, on the street signatures i'm tending to lean towards rushed, but real. the point is moot because the seller pulled the listing after it was questioned, but now im just curious what others here think.

Quite an impressive group of testimonials along with his particular backstory. The advertisement stressed that the DJ was as new and in perfect condition. The book itself was advertised as being in Fine condition. There were 3-4 pictures shown. They looked OK but I thought I'd be careful and talk to someone at the store before spending $1,750.

I spoke to the owner who had someone grab the book. He told me it was a beautiful copy! I asked for a discount and next-day delivery. We agreed at $1,600 next-day delivery. I was psyched when I picked it up at FedEx. Couldn't wait to open it up. I was utterly shocked at what I saw when I opened the box. The book seemed dirty/dusty. The pages were not white or "as new" as I was told. But worse, the main selling point was the supposed flawless DJ. There were many minute chips to the edges that took away from the DJ. I just couldn't believe that they advertised this as they did and told me on the phone what a great book this was. I felt used. There are no refunds given and none was asked for. I have never been so blatantly lied to before in a transaction. Feels like crap.

Moral of the story -- not everything you see on someone's website is exactly what you get. Not even talking to the owner is enough to confirm the condition of a book anymore. Check the refund policy before you buy. In the end, I blame myself for not doing my usual due diligence with a new seller. So, buyer beware if/when dealing with this business.

Similarly I've also noticed more dubious buy and sell activities on ebay after more than 20 years with them. I too was recently fleeced $370 for a delivered item that was not received. Another lesson to be learnt and avoid shipments to countries where local tracking is unavailable.

I mesaged this seller on eBay to let them know the sigs were fake and they responded back asking why I thought that.
They say they purchased 6 signed books at a charity Goodwill auction and they all came with COAs and the auction verified them as real. They were nice and polite and asked me to explain and thanked me for my time. So I don't think they are purposely selling fakes, seems they may be a victim themselves and don't know any better.

No they know what they are doing. This is the SAME bullshit every forgery seller says. I really think they are lying and DO Know my man.. I do.

Yeah, Rahfa, I certainly could have done that. But honestly, I fell for the Hollywood movie star BS, saw what I wanted to see in the pictures (LOL, Leland Gaunt), and believed the guy when I spoke to him. So, I avoided the confrontation and the hassle of returning the book, getting the refund, etc. I posted about my experience so anyone here would be forewarned about this place. I think they have some SK books in their inventory now, but I'm sure the prices are outrageous, and I wouldn't believe the descriptions. BTW, great to see you here again!

The DJ is actually VG-NF. But it was advertised as "pristine." I know how tough it is to find a pristine EOTD DJ and was pissed that I was lied to. I will part with it one day...but at a loss. A refund should have been offered. There is no way I dont think I would offer one. One time a lady missed a point of the sale describing issues.
