Yesterday I received in the mail my book of the Night of the Living Trekkies back from Kevin David Anderson - the author - and it's signed! But not only that, I got a poster signed by him and two magazines with articles of his and those are signed! To say he has spoiled me is an understatement... but I don't know how to save them.. in order that they not be destroyed. Could someone give me tips on being a proper collector???

I have never had anything that I wanted to save as badly as these items, and so need the tips... I hope this is in the right part of the forums! :)

My suggestion is that you first put a protective cover on the dust jacket of your book and put the magazines in archival plastic bags.

How are the posters being stored now? Are they rolled up or are they flat? I would suggest that they be mounted in frames (check out your local framing stores) and displayed if you have the room.

In any case, make sure they are in a "protected" area of your home so that nothing is exposed to any direct sunlight, which can be devastating to your items.

One of the moderators may want to move this thread to another one (Collecting Questions?). This particular forum is for displaying your collection. I'd love to see pictures of your items.

Seeing as I just got the package last night, I left everything as it came, inside the box. If I were to bring the box up to my room, the cats would eat the box and lay on everything...

I will have to get a frame! :) Also, where would I get archival plastic bags? Would comic book covers be the same thing?

I will post some pictures as soon as I can! :)

Comic book bags are the same thing, but make sure they are big enough for the magazines. Cats can be hazardous to books! :P

I know. I can't live without my books, but I can't live without my cats either, so I have to learn how to protect them! :)

Our cats are banned from the room where my books live. :D

Around here we have Michael's stores, which will frame posters, etc using non-glare glass, proper hanging hooks, the works. It's not cheap, but they have special discount coupons issued all the time. I have a framed broadside by Harlan Ellison (The Night of Black Glass), which has been hanging on one wall or another since 1981 and it still looks like the day I bought it. (Never did buy Letters from Hell. Excuse me while I kick myself again.)

With a bit of patience, Letters From Hell can be found at a reasonable price. Out of series copies were still recently available from Lord John Press. The PC broadsides are $250-LINK (http://www.lordjohnpress.com/lefrhe.html)
Herb Yellin also has a Lettered copy of Dolan's Cadillac listed at $2.5K.

Are they not showing up? I can see them... Or am I just a crappy photographer? Maybe I should wait until the morning when I get more light?

Interesting. On Firefox 4 I don't see them at all. On IE 9 I get the dreaded red X.

Let's see if these stick around... these are the original ones... I have yet to take more pictures but I am too wired and too tired from the day to start doing that... or else I'll go into total photo shoot mode... *sighs* Man, I love photography...
