View Full Version : Which Style do you view the site with?

There are currently 8 choices to view the site. Some people only use one, others use on at home and one at work.
Please indicate the top "skin" you use.
FYI, at the bottom left of each page there is a drop down menu where you can change the view.

Still can't stand this mustard 5.4.0.8, but seems I have no choice as everytime I change it to vB4 Default it changes back the next time I come to the site .... likely because I use an automatic cookie eraser upon logout. I voted vB4, but I'm stuck with 5.4.0.8 (and yes, it is ugly mustard .. not pleasing peach or some of the shade variances reported!)

I use Take 5 4.0.8 - it is very easy on the eyes on all my monitors. I specifically tweak their settings not to be too bright, so this skin is not glaring for me - probably I'm one of the lucky ones who have it as pleasant peach shade.

This made me think of a GREAT little piece of software that I installed on our laptop (download it here: http://stereopsis.com/flux/). It's especially useful when you routinely use your computer in the evening before going to bed. It automatically adjusts your screen settings according to the time of day, based on your location. This makes it a lot easier on your eyes later at night, which in turn enhances sleep quality. It may take a little getting used to but it definitely works (for me and many others).

*edit* Similarly, we use a 'wake up light' in the mornings. It's an alarm clock with a light that slowly increases in intensity over the course of thirty minutes, reaching maximum intensity at the moment you want to wake up (then it also starts making some gentle noises). This prepares your brain for waking up and allows you to 'reach the surface' in a natural way instead of abruptly waking in the dark with an awful alarm clock noise and regardless of which sleep phase you were in.

That software sounds interesting - I need to try it out. Although I generally prefer it the other way around - softer colors at work (where there's bright light all around), and slightly brighter screen at home when I sit in (relative) darkness.

Funny about the wake up light - we use the same system but with sound - it starts as a barely audible melody and then gradually becomes louder. I agree that it's much better than being rudely woken up.

Yes, I also used to prefer the softer during the day, brighter during the night settings. But once you get used to the F.Lux settings there's no way back (at least for me).

Grayfolio-Black is the only one I can live with. Actually, I kinda LOVE it!!!!!

Edit: I suppose I could live with the Black Stealth or Take 5 Alpha if it came down to it. Considering what's involved in administering anything on this site, (To make one change it 9 seperate modifications!!!!!) We gotta get the choices down some!!!!

It's all white. I don't like that. If I can't use either Take Five, then I'd rather have the Black Stealh.

That may have something to do with "cookies". I set mine to the Grayfolio-Black and it never defaults.

Somehow, we have to all agree to reduce the number of skins to at least 4. Better yet, 3. It's a ridiculous amount of work to administer anything above those numbers, no?

The bottom three will likely be eliminated-perhaps the bottom four. Very few sites have more than one choice.

I use Take 5 4.0.8 on my home computer.

However at the office I use vb4 Default Style because it seems to be more compatible with my ancient browser software.

Randall Flagg

Based upon the votes, I am discontinuing three of the four Grey Folio skins. The only remaining Grey Folio will be black. I may delete an additional style down the road.

I have now switched to the grey folio black. I find it's the least objectionable than the others.

I would love your help creating a perfect "skin".

jhanic

I don't really have a "perfect" one in mind. My favorite was the grey folio blue, but this grey folio black isn't that bad. The others are just too much for these old eyes of mine.

The Vb4 default style is almost identical to the Grey Folio Blue. Give it a try.

If I were the one keeping the Grey-Folio-Black alive, I could live with the Vb$-thingy if it would make RF's life easier. I will expect some form of compensation though. A signed book I don't have should cover it!!!!!

lol lol lol

:wtf:

Seriously, cut the Black is my new vote.

jhanic

I've also switched back to the Grey folio black. I found that the vB4 default doesn't distinguish enough on the main Palaver page between the forums that have new items and those that don't.

As do I!!!!!!

I wasn't aware, until recently, just how much work is involved for Admin to have all these "skins". Did you know that in order to make a change to the site you have to make it in each skin, plus the main? That's 9 updates (previously) for each change. That's a lot of work.

I was just suggesting it in the vein of making the load easier to carry.

greyfolio-Black Rules!!!!!
