No takers on the lung or kidney? I'll throw in free shipping....

I wonder if the wife would notice if I remortgaged the house...:orely:

Please PM me with medical records so a fair offer can be made  What's the going rate these days anyway on a presumably NF+ lung :orely:

Thank you all for the wonderful feedback!

I take it the photos look good on everyone's screens then? It looks way too bright and luminescent on my Husband's Galaxy S3 phone but looks fine on my laptop with an IPS display and another IPS we have on one PC and a 4K VA panel on the other. We don't have an old CRT or tablets to check it on though.

No speculation. The price is a whopping £1,999 GBP (approx $2,870 USD). :panic:

Considering the sculpture is solid bronze and weighs a staggering 17kg - it was never going to be cheap.

However IMHO, the level of detail and awesome paintwork make this sculpture worth every penny. It is truly awesome!!!

One thing I can let you all know at this point is the retail price of the sculptures. It will be £1999 GBP including shipping to most countries. Some far afield places such as Australia and remote/rural adresses may incur a higher shipping cost but I can confirm this at the time. There will be more details and info/T's & C's which I will post once we are ready to go.

Thanks for your patience waiting for this and I am eager to get things happening ASAP...

It isn't solid bronze. It's resin based.

I did warn you all it is one heck of a lump and we just weighed the painted edition and it is 17kg plus the flight case. The bronze edition will be slightly heavier. These new casts are cast in resin but with a high quantity of white marble blended into the resin. This makes them more like elgin marble than any usual resin. Much higher quality and much heavier too.

T-Dogz_AK47

Okay, so the unpainted sculpture is made of bronze, whilst the painted sculpture is cast from a high quality resin containing white marble.

Both sound expensive.

My understanding is that they are both resin. One is painted and the other plated in bronze.

Rachel Readman

You are correct Br!an. If it were solid bronze then it would weight about 40kg+ and cost upwards of £18,000 to make just one. The term "solid" is not stictly correct either in terms of bronze casting as bronze is cast hollow inside. Nonetheless the bronze on these is very thick and of the highest quality, unlike some cheap plated items you might have seen where the plating wears off or washes off and you would be hard pushed to tell the difference between this and a solid bronze cast. The resin/marble has to be plated first in nickel, then sterling silver followed by copper then bronze.

Oh man. WOW. Just... WOW. The image, the detail. Just incredible. What are the dimensions of this sculpture Rachel?

Rachel Readman
05-17-2016, 03:12 AM
I did measure it exactly and put the measurements up here somewhere a few pages back but I think it was 14 inches tall (including the wood base) by 13 inches wide (at the widest point at the bottom of the base).

Just for reference to those who may have missed the photos of the painted edition, they are on page 30 of this thread.

Br!an

The dimensions are: 34cm at the widest (bottom of the wood base) by 40cm height. The flight case is 48cm x 48cm x 48cm. Every sculpture comes with a numbered certificate of authenticity signed by both Michael Whelan and myself too.

I have just made a change to some of the details on my website with regard to ordering a matching number of a Crimson King Sculpture to previous sculptures as I felt it should be clarified:-

"All sculptures are made to order on a first come first served basis. Matching numbers to previous purchases can be arranged and, if desired, then please state your previous number that you wish to match with this sculpture. If you wish to match a number then order quickly or contact me so that we can discuss it. I can only hold specific numbers for a reasonable time and if you will definitely be placing an order. If you do not place an order or contact me to discuss matching your number then your number may be allocated to another customer and sold."

The item page can be found here:

Many thanks,

Yes, Audrey said you guys had been over to visit and were eyeballing the sculpture. Perhaps a Father 'David' Calahan sculpture sometime in the future huh??

You are very kind David, glad you like how the sculpture turned out (even before the extra refinements that were made since the one Michael has).

I'll be starting working on the first bunch of orders in the coming week but anyone considering ordering should do so soon if you want to get in with the first batch, after that you will be looking at around 16 weeks wait for one.

Rachel Readman

By way of keeping people in the loop, I've placed orders for supplies and should have the first batch of sculptures cast in around two weeks. I'll then begin painting, finishing and shipping them in the order that orders were placed (and paid) and as quickly as I can get each one done. I will be in touch with each of you who are awaiting your order close to when your sculpture is finished and ready to ship.

Anyone who wishes to place an order for the Crimson King sculpture can do so here:

Question ( which you might have answered already, if so, sorry) ... If you took no breaks, how long does each one take to paint, from start to finish?

Rachel Readman
06-13-2016, 10:23 AM
Hi Shannon,

That's a valid and interesting question, I'm glad you asked as I hadn't at this point worked it out exactly.

As this piece was another reworking and refining the colours and techniques it is likely that it will be different timescale to on-going sculptures. Now that I know exactly how I'm doing the painting and precisely how to achieve the correct colours etc. It could take less time but until I actually paint another one I cannot be sure.

Not including mould making, casting, making minor repairs to casting imperfections, varnishing, mounting to the wooden base, attaching limitation plate etc. So purely just painting it worked out for this one at 42 hours. However as I say this one was still a proof that I was essentially practicing and perfecting on so all future sculptures to fulfil orders may (should) take less time but I can't say for sure.

When I do the next one I am going to make a log of exactly how long it takes and will post here once it's done.

Approximately two weeks and I should have new cast sculptures so once I get started painting I'll keep a timesheet and let you know the result.

Anyone who wishes to place an order for the Crimson King sculpture can do so here:

Rachel

I'm currently on holiday in Cornwall and as we are staying just down the road, I took the opportunity to visit Rachel and Mick at her home studio. Rachel and Mick are both very gracious hosts and live in a stunning home filled with DT art work on all the walls. I got to see the new Crimson King sculpture up close and I have to say it does not disappoint (not that any of you thought it would!). It's a stunning piece and the attention to detail is just amazing. Rachel has put years of her life into perfecting this and she REALLY is a perfectionist. I won't give anything away but I can list at least 5 incredible details that you would never, ever see at first glance (possibly never even see unless it was pointed out) but they would excite any King collector who has a knowledge of The Dark Tower!

I have been a fan of Rachel's work for a while now and love all of the things she has created in many mediums, however I was shown a book that she has remarqued in a homage to another artists style and quite simply I was blown away. Rachel has filled every available blank page with these remarques and there must be 10-15 beautiful full page drawings in the book. Rachel did these 'just for herself' and won't show them, but I would would defy any collector on these boards to not believe they were done by the original artist, they really are amazing.

Thanks for letting us visit Rachel, Hopefully we will see you both again before our holiday is done.

Yep, I'm working away here. Just putting the final touches to 2 Constant Readers and they will be ready to ship out but also working at bits and pieces for the Crimson King orders too, limitation plates, Jester's staffs, cherrywood bases, waiting for flightcases being made etc.

Our pleasure having you visit us Simon, we really enjoyed it and you are more than welcome, anytime. Really pleased you enjoyed yourselves.

Just an FYI, the weaker pound (because of our exiting the EU) now means that overseas customers can save significant amounts buying my work due to the exchange rate so anyone considering an order, now would be a good time. Who knows, it may weaken further or rise again??

I wanted to post here in addition to my collection thread because I really want people looking into Rachel's work to see how great her pieces can make an area.

It worked out where the last two weeks I've been doing some traveling. Rachel had my 2 Constant Reader sculptures completed, but I was playing tag with UPS who of course needed me to be there in person to take delivery. So close to getting these and not having them was driving me nuts while i was out of town.

The Dark Tower collection is my only book collection, and something i had been wanting to do for a long time. The series is important to me, and i wanted the books viewable in my home office area. I had my slipcase & AE editions mixed with 1st ed. read copies. After discovering Rachel's work via Simon/Stroppygoblin, i decided i wanted to incorporate these two CR sculptures. The blank space between Charliee the Choo Choo and the Pink Wizard's Glass is patiently waiting for completion and delivery of the Crimson King painted sculpture.

I had to make room, so my read copies were moved to the hallway, which my wife just informed me would not be staying there long. Apparently my will only dominates in my little corner/office of our home :-)

Thanks so much Rachel for making that corner so much cooler!

I'm not sure which thread it was in but my husband said he read some discussion here asking about the skulls on the Crimson King sculpture and how unique each one is. To answer that, I made a bunch of them, I think 10 different ones, made moulds of those, cast 600 from those moulds. Next I hand carved and adjusted every single one as they had a 'neck' from the moulding process that had to be removed and the underside of the jawbone shaped. Following this, as I built up the throne one skull at a time, I added cracks, bullet holes, broken noses, damaged eye sockets etc and every skull had to be carefully shaped and properly placed to fit in place and make the throne match as near as possible to Michael Whelan's original painting. A number of the skulls had to have the bottom jawbone removed and then a new bottom jaw sculpted and fitted back in but open jawed in various degrees as per the painting, these were mostly the top row of the throne and on the arm rests below the candles. There are also some fragmented skull parts fitted in here and there. I cannot swear that every single skull is totally unique, nor can I recall precisely how many of the 600 skulls actually ended up in the sculpture but I know it was in the higher 400's. I think it would be difficult, if not impossible, to pick out two skulls that are exactly the same (but then apparently we all have a twinner somewhere in the world ). Add to this that every one is hand painted, making the paint varied and unique and I would say that it could be argued that they are all in fact unique, as is every sculpture. Every sculpture also has some original hand sculpted areas as they never come out of the mould perfect and I have to hand fix any areas that do not form correctly in the casting process.

Hope this is informative and answers the questions asked in the other thread I can't find.

how does that make sense. I thought sales tax was only applicable if the seller owned a brick and mortar within the state of purchase

It's my understanding that California residents are obliged to pay sales tax on any purchase sent to them from another state or country.
It generally is the taxpayers responsibility to report and pay.
In this instance, it's likely the shipper notified the state of the declared customs value.
Had it been a $50 purchase, it likely would have gone unnoticed.

You can use my address next time, No sales tax in Oregon.

Every time I see Rachel's Crimson King statue I realize after a couple of minutes that I held my breath and I turned my head left a couple of times. I ALWAYS do that whenever I see an item I can't afford and I consider selling a couple of items to get it. :D

I know pics are already posted but wanted to make sure i had this case on Rachel's thread. Last year before i had to pull back from any more collecting purchases, I had an idea to have a case made to protect by slipcase Gunslinger. I just told Rachel I wanted a cool case and i got it.
She worked with Dick Olson on details who ensured case was sized and finished perfectly. She came up with every idea and i'm getting so much pleasure from this amazing piece. Thanks again Rachel!

Anyone know if there are anymore Crimson Kings left for sale, and if so how to get a hold of her?

Randall Flagg

She has gone radio silent.
I talked to her last year when she sent me an email about selling some of her King stuff. I responded and she sent me a follow-up email, then she went missing. She had gone through some traumatic life events.
AFAIK, no one has been successful in contacting her.
Finding a Crimson King piece is going to be challenging...and expensive.

Just some info for seekers of the CK.
In June, 2016, I purchased mine for £1,499.00
At the time the Pound was strong. The conversion rate was 1 USD = 0.6805 GBP, thus the Dollar amount I paid was $2,202.57.

IMO, If you can find one now at $4,500 or less, buy it in a heartbeat.

Quoting Rachel here:

One thing I can let you all know at this point is the retail price of the sculptures. It will be £1999 GBP including shipping to most countries. Some far afield places such as Australia and remote/rural adresses may incur a higher shipping cost but I can confirm this at the time. There will be more details and info/T's & C's which I will post once we are ready to go.

At that moment, according to a post by Jerome, it was $2,845 US

As I recall, the last contact I had with her was maybe two years ago at which point she was dealing with her husband's health issue and treatment. Back then she was just finishing the first "Crimson King's" and had receieved the shipping box for the sculptures. She was also dealing with the conversion rates of the dollar vs the pound vs Euro if I recall correctly. Also, things were not looking good for her husband. My guess would be that he passed and her finances changed significantly.

That's likely why it is now difficult to get in touch with her. I am not aware of what may have transpired in that time frame, but she was always easy to reach in the past and visited the site quite often. The fact that she is not to be seen cannot bode well for her situation. I truly hope she is doing well though because, a nicer woman you are never going to meet. We used to converse quie regularly.

Hi everyone, old friends and new

How are you all doing?

Well, yes, it's been a long time since I was here. A lot has happened in the last couple of years. I see people have been speculating about Mick's health. He's still alive, I think. But the bastard went and left me. So, please feel free to go ahead and trash talk him, I'm looking forward to hearing some creative insults.

Also, my day job went really down hill. I've spent the last couple of years in a pit of depression and anxiety. Lost my job because of this. Currently living back with my parents. Was supposed to be a temporary stop-gap but, three years later, still here. So, yeah, major life changes.

And so my current situation is such that I am, unfortunately, having to sell off my collection of books. I have a lot available so I thought I'd offer them up here first before going to ebay. I must admit I've been out of the market for a long time so am not really up on current values. I've had a google for a rough idea but am looking for offers. Everything must go. There's too much to list here so, if anyone's interested I can send a list.

So, yeah, that's my life in a nutshell

I guess if you have to sell your collection, now is a good time to do it.
There are a lot of new speculators, and a few collectors, in the game now and prices having been going up, up and up.
(Don't let anyone lowball you just so they can flip it on Facebook!)

Do you still have any of your sculpture editions left?

It's good to finally be back and see you all again too. Been a long time and I apologise for my absence (or maybe I shouldn't, just sorry I haven't been speaking with you all). My head's been pretty screwed up recently but I'm starting to try to pull myself out of it. Thin, shredded rope at the moment but hopefully it'll get thicker.

Ooh, thanks Scoogs, nice to hear the market's up at the moment. Been out of it for so long I haven't got clue where to start with all his selling malarchy but just trusting n reasonable offers from good friends.

As for the Crimson King sculpture. Hmm, it might possible be able to offer a few for sale in the near future but at the moment I'm not sure. I know my original intention was to produce 250 but times have changed, some suppliers have now shut down, production costs have gone up, some suppliers have gone, and so things are now more difficult. I'll see what I can do but I can't promise anything. I do have three bronze/resin cast sculptures with minor faults that I will be able to sell. However, they are currently stored away but am hoping to get them back soon.

Hell yes she did! Then donated to the 2015 Haven Foundation fundraiser, of which I was subsequently the high bidder. If I recall correctly, these are (or were anyway) a one-of-a-kind set; if they weren't, I tell people they are anyway. 2015? Blimey, it was wasn't it. 6 years ago. Stop making me feel old. Yes, they are a one-off. They are the only glasses I have ever engraved with King related pictures. And that gorgeous baby of theirs, what a great attitude already :emot-roflolmao:

Aw, dang, just remembered we can't post pics directly on here anymore. Can't remember where we have to host them. Can someone remind me please?

Cool, thanks Merlin. Blubup? That doesn't sound familiar, I'm sure we use to use something else. But, OK, I'll take a look, see if I can figure it out. Thank you

I find it pretty easy to navigate and admin feels a little more active than some of the ones we all use(d) over the years like, Photobucket, etc.

Hello Rachel,

It's nice to see you back. Even if life didn't go very well those past few years, it's nice to have you back. And know that your work and those Crimson King statues have been highly searched for this past year. So if you got some left have you mentionned, I am certain that you'll find buyers. And same for your collection.

Besides that, I am sending some good vibes and thought from France. Hoping you'll soon get back on your feet :)

It's been a long time coming, and I've put it off for too long but, yes, I'm finally back. Still kinda screwed in the head but I'm trying and I'm here, which guess is a good thing.

As for the CK sculptures, well, that's not a definite just a possibility at the moment. I'm looking into it ans we'll see. No promises, but maybe.

I do love receiving good vibes, thank you. And from France too? Even better. My brother is currently living in France in the Dordogne area. Recently married to a wonderful French lady and with a new beautiful French/Cornish baby girl. Never been to Paris myself but am intending to some day, hopefully.

Back on my feet? Well, maybe, one day. Just muddling through right now, trying t keep my head above water. Just about managing :)

xx

Does seem fairly straight forward. Got a pic posted so, yep, good so far. Thanks Merlin :)

Ah, Photobucket! Yes, we were still using that last time I was here. Blimey... time goes

Everyone's free to use whatever picture hosting they like, but the site preference is always to upload the images here and link to them. Whilst we know it's not the most user friendly experience, it doesn't take too long to get to grips with once you have done it a few times. The main benefit is we NEVER lose an image and threads of any age will remain intact regardless of the success/failure of the current flavour of the month hosting site. (we all know what a clusterfuck painful experience Photobucket's change in licensing policy was...
:crow burp:

There are some really good guides on how to use the TDT.org image upload and link to images here (https://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/showthread.php?6133-How-to-Add-info-in-posts-(links-pics-videos-etc.))

Thanks stroppygoblin. OK, so any hosting site is ok, that's good to know. But bublup seems simple enough so that's all good. To be honest I had no idea about the changes to photobucket, been out of the game too long I guess

Sadly, you may have to resort to a contractor to enable the opportunity for purchase if, you know what I mean!! lol lol

Hint: Have him make it look like natural causes!! lol lol Don't worry my lips are sealed. lol

Man, I'm gonna miss you a lot, Kris!!! rest in peace. lol

Betts has sold one of the Crimson King figurine for 4.5k

Hey folks - looking for some help valuing an item. So I recently purchased the S/L Gunslinger from Betts’ recent drop. It came in a unique traycase which I truly didn’t appreciate at first. I know I was focused on the book (still am) but after REALLY looking at it - this thing is amazing. It's a Dolso traycase - it has his signature latch and “proud” top lip (for easier opening as I’ve been told). The traycase is covered inside & out with Rachel Readman original art.

The front - a relief-type sculpture of Roland in the town of Tull as he dispatches its citizens.
The back - An incredibly detailed laser engraved image of a KA “tree” of sorts which show all the Beam animals and a clock/watch at the base with a time of 9:05 (anyone aware of the significance of this?)
Inside - a drawing of Roland on the bottom of the lid and a crushed velvet lined are which fits a 1st edition of The Gunslinger with a slipcase.

Anyone care to educate me on the market value for something like this? Thanks for the help!

In 2013 we auctioned off a Dolso Case that featured Ned Dameron "3-d" art on the cover of the box featuring Blaine The Mono. Inside the front lid is an original Dameron piece of art. The auction also included a DTIII with a two page Dameron remarque inside. It sold for $960 on ebay. Nowadays I'd say it would go for double-perhaps triple in light of Dameron's demise.

We also auctioned off a Rachel Readman "Oy The Brave" statue that fetched $810.

Dameron Case and art including remarque in included DTIII:

Long post that doesn't answer your question, so....

I'd say your case (w/o) book is worth $800-$1.25K.
