nimiia vibié is the audio accompaniment to Sutela’s video installation work nimiia cétiï, in which she sought to document the interactions between a neural network, audio recordings of a Martian language (channelled by French medium Hélène Smith in the nineteenth century, naturally) and footage of Bacillus subtilis, a space-resistant bacterium that is commonly found in nattō, or fermented soybean. It’s a weird one, for sure.

The audio release of the project features Miako Klein on contrabass recorder, Shin-Joo Morgantini on the flute and Amnesia Scanner’s Ville Haimala on sound production duties. Machine learning for the project was developed in collaboration with Memo Akten and Damien Henry.

I like this. It sounds composed and arranged rather than just written.

The are a few places where, if you replace the synth's melody line and play it on a sax you'd think you were listening to straight up jazz. So often the use of electric drums and electric Hi-Hat get so repetitive they they dominate the tune. This sounds like an actual human at an electric drum set.

They've been through a lot of changes over the years. If you ever get the feeling, try looking up some of their acoustic performances. I think they are best that way. That drummer can also play the violin. :)

It seems it is only an issue when I go through this site. It works fine when I go to YouTube directly.

I had to listen to Maye again just to cleanse my ears. I should have known...Tommy likes it and he's a weird fucker.

But I must say it reminded me a lot of the underground punk stuff from the early to mid 80s. Much of that didn't get recorded I'm sure as they usually only played it in those hidden, underground punk clubs set in abandoned factories.

It DID take me back though! I enjoyed the atmosphere in those clubs...but the music...not so much. I remember being totally ripped on some good 'ludes one night in such a club...well I KINDA remember. I have the distinct memory of the lead..."singer" beating on an automobile tire rim repeatedly with a 7 foot long chain while screaming into the mic "EAT FLESH! EAT FLESH! over and over...almost hypnotic....well when you are wasted on 'ludes most everything is hypnotic. I digress.

Sigh, those were the days...as far as I can remember.

No one has a good answer including the lyric writer Keith Reid. Reid says he started with the phrase "Whiter shade of pale" and kind of fit the pieces around that. I find that pretty much on par with my poetry wring process too.
It seems to start as a "drug fueled sexual encounter" but, at some point, the narrator's acid kicks in.
At one point on TV (Midnight Special ...I think) Reid stated something to the effect of I was trying to create a mood as much as tell a straight-up, girl-leaves-boy story. With the ceiling flying away and room humming harder, I wanted to paint a scene.

That's the best I can remember, Tommy. That show aired in about 1978 and I was 10 years old. There have been a lot of chemicals in my brain since then.

Nice tight snare work. The snare is ok but when they tighten the skin THIS much, I rather like it! There just aren't enough drum solos in the world.
