And I don't even have my record player yet.
I just had a conversation about this with a friend of mine who was getting rid of a lot of vinyl. I am in between turntables at the moment and he couldn't understand why I'd want vinyl of albums I have digitally. I laughed at the question.

I'm actually a total newb to the whole vinyl thing - the friend I stayed with in Texas somehow got sent two when she ordered a record player, so she offered me the extra for free.
I couldn't bring it back with me on the plane though, so I have to wait for my dad's next trip up here so he can lug it back.
But I have to be prepared, right?
I need to hit up some thrift stores and look for the least expensive/best quality ones.

I grew up on vinyl and prefer it for many reasons, but mostly for the much wider dynamic range of the music itself. When I worked at the radio station I had a turntable in my workstation and access to a massive library of great jazz albums. If I got paid more, it'd have been shangri-la.

Good lo-fi rock. They call it cave pop. Only one 4 song 7" out, but I suggest finding it.
Vinylllll. I have about 200 records and three turntables. From an original of Meet The Beatles to a rare French 200 Motels. My parents have complete originals of Led Zep, The Doors, Boingo, and a few others. I bought my dad the original Boing EP on both 10" and 12" for X(ist)mas a few years ago. Both original issues, of course.

This week's album pick is Mikrophonie I and II, Telemusik by Karlheinz Stockhausen. Three somewhat long compositions split into their respective parts/moments/events/structures. Not only is it the precursor to the noise stylings of the '80s to today, it's just amazing classical that decimates what can can be considered music. For fans of musique concrete, Stravinsky, John Cage, Harry Partch, Merzbow, NON, power electronics, and 20th century classical. If you don't think you like noise or experimental classical, find this album - it'll open your eyes and your mind.

I'm torn about it, the Lovano part, not the new Masada part, that part is awesome. On the one hand, I love Zorn's playing, especially with the original incarnation of Masada (or "Classic Masada" if you will). On the other hand, Joe Lovano is a great player too and should fit in well with those guys. I knew Zorn wanted to move towards more conducting and less playing but I'm not sure I wanted that to affect that particular band.

Neko's voice gives me chills. She kind of reminds me of Maria McKee (Lone Justice era Maria McKee, not what became of her career afterwards).
She should be an example to all of the fraudulent singers who call themselves "country" of how it's actually supposed to sound. Country is based on the blues, not "pop with twang." Also, as you can clearly hear from this live video, she doesn't need to be auto-tuned into oblivion like some more popular so-called country singers :cough:Shania Twain:cough:

it's like comparing apples to, well not oranges, but a completely different kind of apples.
the only real similarity is miles. both are groundbreaking, but Kind of Blue is still essentially jazz. Bitches Brew (which I also love) is some other form of music entirely.
