Thanks Ryan :)

One of them started the same time I did and we pretty much learned together and have been playing together for years so we always have fun. What excites me though is that two of the others are brothers who I've only played with once but that once we really gelled together perfectly. Right now I'm trying to decide which guitar to bring because I don't feel like lugging both of them. I'm leaning towards the Gibson if only because I brought the Strat the last time. Dunno yet. :orely:

:) Sweet, look forward to that at 7.

That song is from a two song set they did on Carson Daly awhile back. Check out the Jack Johnson song they did together too. Ben's slide work on that is just absolutely perfect. I also love the way that Jack is barefoot on stage.

I was trying to find the "gone" performance but it isn't on youtube anymore. :(

They've been playing so long together its like they can read each other's mind. You can just tell.

Heather19
05-02-2009, 03:34 PM
I honestly think they can. It's secondhand for them when they're up there on stage together. They don't even have to think about it, they just do it. And they play really well off of each other.
Check out Jeff and Carter. Now Jeff hasn't been playing with them that long, but he fits right in.

Incidentally, the guitar Neil plays in this video is Trey's old guitar (the one with the tone I prefer).

The highlight of the Halloween 94 show. I think George would have liked it. It wound up returning to the set lists periodically over the years, including an absolutely beautiful version which caught everyone by surprise as the encore at my wife's first show [12/31/98]...

YouTube - Phish - While My Guitar Gently Weeps (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAarSgI35U0)

An excellent cover. This is one of my favs from that night.

This one blew me away when we watched it happen on tv. Apparently after this performance, Neil asked them to be his backing band on his 99 tour but they declined. I can't only imagine the results that would have produced.

Incidentally, the guitar Neil plays in this video is Trey's old guitar (the one with the tone I prefer).

YouTube - Down By the River - Phish and Neil Young (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YK_XPZ_Xhg)

That and the "Dear Prudence" are my favorites of that second set. There are a few standout performances from the 1st and 3rd of their own material, especially the "Divided Sky" in the 1st which I think is one of the three or four best they've ever played.

Oh man Laura.
I would definitely suggest checking them out further.
Their first album - Waltzing Alone - is a lot more acoustic, like Philosophia.
Their latest - Happy The Man - is a bit more poppy, but I still love it.

You'd have to take a time machine back to the 70's to find bands that bring the Funk harder than the ones currently on the Daptone label, and I mean the real "On-the-One" Funk, not that "we use funky sounding keyboards and our guitarist uses palm-muted 9th chords with a wah-wah pedal" fake shit that passes for funk. There is a HUGE difference between funk music and funky music. Daptone knows the difference and their roster of bands bring the real deal.

Yeah, it's one of those songs. My older brother was a big GW fan and got me into them at a very young age. I love Burton Cummings's voice, too. I still have my old GW albums from back in the day...

My comp is on random play of anything that is not specifically seasonal music. Got a weird collection, so up next could be Tom Waits, Pink Floyd, Dvorak, Simple Minds, Cletus T. Judd, Adam and the Ants, Frank Zappa, Barnes and Barnes, Alan Parsons, Count Basie, ELP, Tommy Bolin, Tangerine Dream, or Shirley Bassey.

BTW: It was The Cask of Amontillado.
