Of course, a blind rabbit working with deaf rats and no film could make a better film than Kubrick. Yes them's fighting words, but I've been forced at some point to sit through virtually every film Kubrick has made and not found even one that was worth the time invested in the initial viewing. Full Metal Jacket came close, but then there was that whole second half that ground the story to a screaming, screeching halt.

Still a good film on balance, one of the only Kubrick works I feel that way about. His best, to me, anyway is Dr. Strangelove. Otherwise, I can at least recognize skill in movies that didn't speak to me.

Same here, although I still love the film. Also, Vincent D'Onofrio's slow descent into madness as Pvt. Pyle is one of the most chilling performances I've ever seen.

What is your favorite film by either director, and why ?

Kubrick's Barry Lyndon, because it's just a work of pure art, each frame is beautiful to look at like a painting.

turtlex

Nolan : The Dark Knight ... why? Because I think Heath Ledger's performance is absolutely amazing and I think it took a lot of guts for Nolan to let him go there. Not every director would have taken that risk.

Kubrick : Hmmm. Going to go with A Clockwork Orange. Why? Because it truly gave me a glimpse of a "future tense" that made me think ( and scared me ). It is textured and vivid, and disturbing.

J/K. Although not my favorite, I still love The Shining.

-----

Nolan : The Dark Knight. His most ambitious, complete, self contained work to date. He turned the superhero genre on it's own, and in helped pave the way for one of the most mesmerizing, iconic performances in the form of Ledger's Joker.

Kubrick : A Clockwork Orange. A beautifully realized film, brimming to the top with rich imagery and intriguing musical counterpoints. The virtue of it's subject matter is debatable, what isn't is the impact it's had on cinema as a whole.

Besides, when you look at that list, it isn't so very extensive, anyway, in cinema in particular. Punk, rock, metal, hip hop; okay, not surprising. Mostly TV references... Simpsons, Futurama, South Park, Robot Chicken, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Rocko's Modern Life, SpongeBob SquarePants, Duckman, Recess, Doug... uh, yeah, um, seriously, what is this supposed prove?

Nolan: Inception. Perfection. I love its story and the idea construction creating the universe of the movie.

Kubrick: A Clockwork Orange. Because he created Alex DeLarge with that movie.
Though, this is a tough choice for me to decide between A Clockwork Orange and The Shining which has a deep impact on me with espacially its scenery. So, I am with you there, Heather.

Shizzie, that's exactly how I see it. :couple:

Alex that I find lyrical is the one I met in the movie. Though his origin was shaped in the book, I still meant to say Kubrick created him. Because for me, Kubrick's interpretation makes quite a different Alex.

I'm not a big Kubrick fan, so there are quite a few directors I'd vote for over him. But as I've said before, I don't think it matters when the director started directing or if they only have 5 films compared the other directors 50, if they're good - they're good!

I was just about to flip out from excitement, and then I realized that this means I'll have to choose between Hitchcock and Nolan.

It's like that time when I was little and a mean kid in class asked me whether I would save my mom or my dad if they were tied to train tracks and I only had time to save one of them and he told me if I didn't answer then ghosts would haunt me for the next 14 years of my life.
