I just finished the Gunslinger Born comic book, which was Amazing. Currently I'm reading The English Patient (seen the film about a dozen times so I thought I'd try the book).

Speaking of films... I'm going through a bit of a Western phase (when I watch movies, I go through phases... there was the Bogie&Bacall phase, the Audrey Hepburn phase... so now it's westerns.). Specifically, Fistful of Dollars and For a Few Dollars More, both of which are now up there on the Favourite Movies list. I plan on obtaining The Good, The Bad and The Ugly asap.

As long as you're on a western kick, check out Once Upon A Time in the West and Pale Rider, two excellent western films and personal favorites of mine.

Good news: there's a whole section (http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/forumdisplay.php?f=27) here dedicated solely to movies, - westerns including.

I love finding someone who truly enjoys the series like I do. I think my friend at work is one.

On topic: I am finishing up Clive Cussler (with Dirk Cussler)..."Lost Treasure of Khan"

I like his books for listing to because ever sentence has a great pause so you can stop.

But I still really liked the movie. Natalie Portman does an amazing job in it. I've got this weird thing where whenever I see Natalie Portman cry...i cry. No matter what she's talking about or crying over. Just the amount of emotion she can express on her face tears me up.

I am reading Hood by Stephen R. Lawhead.

It is really, really good. I am only about 30 pages in and it already has me completely sucked into the story.

Lawhead writes mythic history and imaginative fiction. This one is the first book in a series about Robin Hood. He has written other series about things like King Arthur and various Celtic folklore, but they are all quite a bit different than the typical stories. They are his own versions of mythic stories. I really enjoy his stuff.

cool, I'll try and find them.

Here's a bit from his webpage about Hood, to get a better idea of what the story is like taht what I ahve said so far:

King Raven Trilogy: Book I
Robin Hood: The Legend Begins Anew
For centuries, the legend of Robin Hood and his band of thieves has captivated the imagination. Now the familiar tale takes on new life, fresh meaning, and an unexpected setting.

Hunted like an animal by Norman invaders, Bran ap Brychan, heir to the throne Elfael, has abandoned his father's kingdom and fled to the greenwood. There, in the primeval forest of the Welsh borders, danger surrounds him—for this woodland is a living, breathing entity with mysterious powers and secrets, and Bran must find a way to make it his own if he is to survive.

Like the forest itself, Hood is deep, dark, and at times savagely brutal—yet full of enchantment and hope. Internationally-acclaimed author Stephen R. Lawhead has created a lyrical rendering of a time-honored story that will lead you down strange pathways into another time and place.

It also says "Steeped in Celtic mythology and the political intrigue of medival Britain, Lawhead's trilogy conjures up an ancient past and holds a mirror to contemporary realities. Prepare for an epic tale that dares to shatter everything you thought you knew about Robin Hood."

As long as you don't like, join a web community with message boards and stuff.

But as an analyst, or critic, of anything, be it his own or anyone else's writing, I don't really think he amounts to anything. Which doesn't in the least diminish my respect and admiration; learning, for example, that he sings out of tune in the shower wouldn't, either.

That's interesting, because I really enjoyed On Writing, but Danse Macabre about put me to sleep.

i couldn't finish either of them. i def prefer king the ficition writer to king the non-fiction writer.

Oh All_Hail, On Writing is one of my favorite books. Even if you just read the first half when Stephen King talks about his childhood and how he got to writing in the first place. It is a must read. Recommended for sure.

Thats number 2. Lets see, my best friend and cool Sarah recommend it and that dumb-ass Jayson and that bitch Daghain both don't like it. I think I'll read it. Thanks.

CK, it's very good. There's a lot of autobiographical stuff in there - very interesting. And, it's a pretty quick read.

And Story...

Just got home from the appointment I had
with my new allergist, and as I was at the
chemist's collecting the new drugs for my
hives, I saw Joe Hills Heart Shaped Box.
I bought it on the spot (paperback) and
am 40 some-odd pages in...and I'm liking
it very much, it has a good pace to it.
Something tells me it wont be the last
book I ever buy with his name on it.
