As soon as I win the lottery I am going to buy every permutation of that book...
I agree Steve. The red number and RN ones are dreams for me unless I some how find them out there in the wild just waiting to be plucked.

Excellent CP SL, Mike. That is truly one of the most distinctive editions of King out there, and a special part of any collection.
Yep. It is a oorner stone in my collection. Thanks for stopping by :).

Oh thats a big boy! One of my favorites, congratulations buddy!
Thanks Chad. The rumors are true. I mean you read the specs on the books and it sort of sinls in. But until you see it and hold in person,
It's really hard to comprehend the quality and freaking size of this book.

Mike congratulations on this new purchase!
I know you are busy so thanks for stopping by Paul. It's a keeper for sure.

So know that I have this, I have one more Grail item to get. After that it's getting stuff that is good and helps round out my collection. But like I said, I love this book and who knows, maybe luck will find me for change for some other versions of this book (Salems') but more importantly, my Grail item. You never know right?

I got my I Am Legend AGE from Suntup. I really like the AND feel of it. I like the look of the case, DJ and the print on the paper. All in all, I am happy that I decided to start getting the AGE books as well.

If anyone knows: how much does the CP SL weigh?

This site says 13 pounds. I thought it was 9 though. Either way, it one heavy book.

I know Mr. King does not like this particular S\L more than others (size, price etc...) but I happen to like it. When I get around to reading Salems' Lot, I will probably read this ed. I was thinking of just reading the other version I have, but why not read this one. I am reading my S\L of the Dark Tower so why not this.

Yes, do - I'm sure it will be quite the experience.

MikeDuke
05-27-2020, 01:02 PM
I don't think it changes the value, but I just realized that my first ed of Billy Blockade has TWO cards of the main character. Again, just a mistake. Not a huge one that would cause the price to spike. I know that.I just thought it was interesting.
P.S I must be a dummy because I can't figure out how to take them out .

No, the el cheapo Centipede Press edition which I never took the shrinkwrap off of. I have no idea what the book looks like inside except for the photos posted here.

Got something new from Ralph. I think it's a sort of rare one. A flat signed, first ed, Bazaar of Bad Dreams with a CD case to go with it. Pics to come later.

MikeDuke
06-14-2020, 06:58 AM
So, here is my BOBD first ed signed. Plus it came with a CD case. I don't know how rare this is compared to something like Mr. Mercedes, but I think it's pretty rare. But I know The Outsider is more rare to find a 1st\1st. Anyway, the pics

That's it for now.

As there were no formal signings for 1st editions of any of those three titles....they are equally rare in my opinion. That said....there was a signing for The Outsider in which later printings were sold....so I would say that one is the "least rare" of the three.

MikeDuke
06-14-2020, 04:21 PM
I would agree with the outsider, but when the publisher put the book out, the did not just put out first printings. A lot of what I have seen are something like 4th printing. (I have a later printing one as well.) So I think having a true first ed first printing (like I also have) may be one of the more rare ones. That's all I meant. And the market seems to agree. 1st/1st outsiders are listed at much higher prices than the other ones. Nut I am happy to have all in my collection. Just my thoughts though. Thanks for stopping by.

Thanks Vincent. Appreciate you stopping by. Like I said, there are a few more newer signed ones that are rare that would be cool to get. Or even the one of the 100 of the BOMC FDNS.
Also, like I said, stuff from the 80's 90's and maybe even 2000's that are signed would be cool also. Plus, the proof itch is starting again. Man, this really never ends does it?

Sorry to usurp your thread, Mike.
No, it's the blower motor on my furnace overheating (or something similar) and knocking out my power so my generator comes on when I turn on the AC. I don't fully understand it, and neither did the furnace guy when he was here. I don't want to take the chance of losing total power so I'm leaving everything alone until the new furnace is installed.

And by the way, Mike is great!

He looks similar to you, just more hair.

Edit to add pictures...

I found a pic with less hair, very similar to yours. He later grew a full beard and let his hair grow.

I agree. The style is really cool. And if we get Island of Dr. Moreau it will look even cooler.

Thanks Brian. having the fab 5 is pretty neat now (of course minus the Salems mistake with the 8.95 and Cody). Never get that one.
But I am a happy camper.

I know. Maybe I will start playing. We shall see. But I am very happy with my collection as is, some people have more, some may have less. But we all love them equally.
That's what makes collecting so cool. Am I jealous of some people, sure. But for all I know, some people may be jealous of me. What I am going to do, is just
keep plugging along. Thanks for stopping by guys.

Thanks Kris. I was hoping you would stop by. Do you think it's a good one? Even with the minor scratches? They don't
bother me. It has taken me a long time to get this book. I have others on the list now that I can work on. I just wish I
could go a little higher but I will get what I can get.
Thanks again.

I do. I think you have a VERY good one. I would need many more pics to be sure.. but it looks up there. A spot of fade... minor chipping BUT she is bouncing off the near fine level... 100% a VG+++++++++++++

So since this my thread and I share my love with King , I can say what I want. I am now officially giving up on Misery. It's like those movies, where you see someone running down a hall to a destination but as the person is running the destination also keeps moving further away so you never gain any ground to get close to it. That's me. I was such a fool. I had a chance but that's when I thought spending over $800 for a book was a lot. There were still EOTD portfolios left and that's when I learned that I would need one of those in order to get Misery. I thought that was a lot of money back then. For some, it is a lot of money and still is. But I could have done it. But then the day came and I think missed getting the book by 2 sec during the time it went live on that Sat. So I missed my chance. Now, at the price it is at, and it doesn't seem to be stopping, it will never happen. I even missed a chance to get one at $3,000 because that was pushing my limit and there was no way I thought it would go higher.

And if anybody here knows anything about me they know two things. I hate the word never and I don't give up. Well this is the point where those things come true. I messed up and now I am where I am. So, I will have to try and get everything else I can from now on. I just had to let that out. . So now I am just going to get everything I can. Hopefully my SWTWC will show up next week and that is why I am never missing another Suntup book ever. Anyway now that's out of my system I can move on. If you took this as a rant against anything but myself, then you need to re-read t. Because that's what it is. Paul and Becca have been nothing but nice and gracious to me and I am glad I at least got in when I did. So that's it.

Have a great weekend everybody. I am not going to let the lack of one book define my collection.

Mike, it basically boils down to how badly you want/need the book in your collection. I never thought I'd own a lettered Suntup Horns but I sold off what I needed to in order to obtain it. Just all depends if you can let go of other things to get your there. Quality over quantity is best a times.

I got you Brian. But I love all the books I have now. I mean I going to sell my Green Mile S\L remarqued + My IT or plus my Stand? No way. I worked too hard and
waited to long to get them and I love having them in my collection. I am not willing (able) to let one thing go just to get something else. It just the way I am built.
For better or for worse. I mean if I were to do what you are suggesting I would have to sell my Stand S\L, Green Mile S\L and Salems' S\L.
or a combination of at least 2 S\L and some of the really rare first ed I have flat signed. I just can't do it. I mean, I guess I become too attached (plus other reasons)
which I can't get into now. So that will be the one that got away and I will live with it. But I am glad you were able to part with what you had to in order
to get the lettered Horns.
P.S What I would sell is my Sleeping Beauties with matching portfolio S\L , Skeleton Crew S\Land The Shining S\Lin order to get it. But that would be no where near what I would need to get it. I would have to add cash to that deal. A lot of it because those books would not bring close to what Misery is now. I would even put The Black House S\L and Desperation S\L into the mix but that still would not be enough. So it will never happen. That would really bring my sig count as well. But it's all in theory because it would never happen.

I commend your loyalty to your collection. Anything in my is up for grabs if I'm chasing a personal white whale. With the exception of my lettered Horns, red numbered Horns, and another item that is on the horizon. Not being a completist allows for that though.

Plus, I don't sell on line so that makes it harder. But you do have me thinking Brian. I hope you can get your other item. Maybe I will talk to Ralph about this and see what he thinks. Or someone else. Who knows.

Don't do anything you'll regret, my friend. That will take any pleasure away from your find. You do you. The deal is already done on my other item so I'm good to go there. Probably wouldn't mean a hill of beans to most but it means a lot to me. And that's all that matters to any of us at the end of the day. Ralph is great people and would never steer you wrong.

I know Ralph is great. He is the one who told me that Misery is racing away from me. I will probably end up doing nothing. Too much work to do it any other way.
Thanks for stopping by Brian. I appreciate the talk.
