(with a nod to John_and_Yoko.) :)

Commala-come-one,
Italian butter melts in the noonday sun

Commala-come-two,
Pack animals stand ready to haul for you

Commala-come-three,
A method to carve up the great city

Commala-come-four,
Locomotion down below the floor

Commala-come-five,
Tobacco piled up to dry, stack it up, stack it up, six foot high

Commala-come-six,
Father of sons on the Moon, Venus and Mars and one in the jungle, such a strange mix.

Commala-come-seven,
For some a hole, for some a tunnel, for some a home to rival heaven.

Commala-come-eight,
This town's founder didn’t really have a dead mammal on his pate.

I'm not even sure what format the answer is supposed to take... is it all separate? are they interconnected?

One word to link them all, One word to bind them, One word will sync them all and answers you will find them.

The "answer" is a variation on a theme: homophones of Burrow(s) ;)
There are some more yet to be answered...

And sadly that includes those last three that haven't been answered yet.... :(

Let's see. The Italian word for butter is burro. The pack animals clue is self explanatory. New York City is divided into buroughs (vs Parishes in New Orleans.) Critters below the ground must burrow to and fro to get anywhere. And an animals den is called a burrow. Is that what you mean? :|

Yes, those two are gonna be hard. The tobacco one is not very well known. You'll have to dig.

The dead animal one. How many historical figures can you think of that had a dead animal on their head...like a hat? ;)

You are correct, though the TV Daniel Boone was (erroneously) portrayed with a coonskin cap as well. The REAL Daniel Boone did not sport one. I don't know...I guess Disney figured they'd sell a ton of coonskin caps to kids...and they did.
