Tim, starting a while ago the book club editions have become more like the trade editions and haven't been printed with the inferior quality. I'm a member of the Book of the Month Club and I got the book club edition of Black House when it first came out. It was identical to the trade edition with two exceptions: no price on the dust jacket and the printing on the spine of the book was in gold, not silver as was the trade edition. Otherwise, like I said, they were identical.

John

I've been aware that BCEs from the BOMC have, for some time, looked nearly identical to the trade editions. I've noticed the general trend in the industry as a whole for trade editions to be published cheaper and cheaper and for BCEs to be published better and better.

That being said, I thought someone mentioned this book to have come form SFBC, which to my knowledge still continues to produce undersized editions with cheaper than normal (but still better than they used to be) dustjackets. At least that's the case for the newer SFBCs I've picked up on the cheap, like The Devil's Eye by Jack McDevitt.

ETA: I apparently missed swintek elaborating the same point above. Sorry for the reiteration.

Brian, anything current on the the lettered Passage? Last e-mail I had from CD was beginning of November saying it still looked good for December.

Hi George!

Our Limited Editions and Lettered Editions won't be coming at the same time for the foreseeable future. We have a backlog on our traycases for the Lettered Editions because the vendor can't keep up with our publishing pace. I don't have a firm date on The Passage lettered, so I wouldn't want to post a guess, but we'll send an update when we see how it fits into his schedule for 2011!

I used mcspadden's: http://www.mcspaddenbookbindery.com/price.htm
to make the traycase and bind the book for my Plant special edition....was very pleased!

not sure if they do and give discounts for large orders...but.... they did a great job on mine.

Yeah, he was very friendly to work with... and he has a guy that custom dyes the endpapers - i special ordered the design on these, I told him I wanted something that hinted at blood, plants, and christmas (since King gave the original plant copies as christmas gifts)

here's a closer look at the endpapers for the case:
http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj13/sir_boomme/sk4-Lmt%20%20plus%20Eds/zzg-ThePlant-Customeditionselfprodu.jpg

and the endpapers for the book:
http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj13/sir_boomme/sk4-Lmt%20%20plus%20Eds/zzh-ThePlant-Customeditionselfprodu.jpg

He hit spot on what I wanted.

When do you think we will see some pics of the remarque version of FDNS?

We have some of the remarqued Limited Editions back, which will be shipping with the rest of the Limited Editions. I had wanted to get those Limited Editions started out the door this week, but the office was closed completely yesterday due to snow, and today the Maryland employees couldn't get to the office because they were still snowed into their neighborhoods. (The PA employees, on the other hand, got to the office just fine even though we live 70 minutes away!)

Now I expect the Limited Edition to start shipping next week, so some photos should be getting out there soon. We don't have all of the remarqued Limited Editions yet, and none of the Gift Editions, but I know Glenn is working hard on them.

I'd just like to point out that on the odd winter it actually snows in my home city, it never snows enough to stop people getting to work. So perhaps a relocation of the printer/warehouse could be considered. I'll gladly come in and help pack books. (you guys wouldn't miss the occasional s/l ay?) :P

I saw a ebay aution earlier today for a FDNS trade edition that claimed to be signed at a book store near Sarasota FL, I saved the auction in my watch list but now it's gone.
Did anyone else see this?
There was a pic of King's sig and it looked good, the book had a square green sticker on the DJ stating " autographed copy" or "signed copy".
The seller was weathervane something? The starting bid was $200.00
It"s just weird that the auction is gone, I guess you can remove an aution, usually if an action is ended it is still visible, just says ended......

nope, not there... no where on the page does it say that. has additional information with the weight and shipped/billed on date(1/28/11)
above that it has last location
above that has weather conditions may delay...

but no where does it have "in Transit" or "scheduled delivery" listed.
still, like I said...if it is in austin... that's only 10 miles away from the pflugerville area. so I assume it shouldn't be too long now, just strange it took so long.

So Brian, are you saying all of the S/Ls have shipped?

I'm not Brian, but at this point most of the S/Ls should have shipped. With the exception of if you ordered a remarqued book, requested that it ship with the lettered, or payed via paypal and need to pay for your shipping (only applies to non-US customers). So if none of that applies, and you still haven't recieved your shipping conformation send an email to either Brian or myself and we will look into what the hold up with your order.

I think the slipcase is flabbergasting. It's worth more now; and later, (remember Now & Later's?) than the 1st Edition book that will nestle in it.

It's red, it has a star, it glows in the dark...it's not diametrically different than 'full dark, no stars,' but it's close...yes, awful...it's a lazy design, unfortunately.

Oh well, believe it or not I kinda liked it. I mean I wouldn't want one housing my Ltd edition, but for the US first I thought it kinda cool. Also, my take was a pentagram not a "star/star". Relative to the "Deal with the Devil" story.

OK guys I know this is way late and it may have alredy come up in this thread but I just saw it on SKMB and had to see if you guys know anything about it without haveing to run through this whole thread:

By Ms. Mod, Yesterday: The hardcover edition had four stories. In between publication of the hardcover and when the paperback was released, Steve had written another story that he thought would be right for that collection and so "Under the Weather" was added to the paperback release making it five stories.

So now I guess I need to find a PB copy of this to add to my collection since I have no idea if that story was printed anywhere else... :/

Sorry all, did a little more research and found the details, and yeh gonna have to hunt down a 1/1 PB of this one to get the new story, cool.

There have been two paperback editions published so far. The first was a trade-sized paperback (larger than the typical mass-market PB) and just recently a mass-market PB has been published. Both have the same cover and contain "Under the Weather."

Wow, that's just pure awesome. And that might be the coolest lettered book I've ever seen. I'd love to see one in person.

Can't hardly wait to see which remarque I'm lucky enough to receive - next week, hopefully, if the postal service works in its usual pondering fashion (nah, not really, it's my impatience that makes it seem an eternity between shipping confirmation and subsequent delivery) :pullhair:

Sweet - after having our customs people hold my LE Remarqued FDNS to ransom for two weeks until I paid tax on it, I have one of the Big Driver remarques from Glenn (will post it on my thread later this weekend) - freaking awesome !!!! :excited:

Turns out the lettered PC edition of FDNS I received has an original color illustration (aka remarque) done and signed by Chadbourne on the title page. Pics to come but its nothing not already seen - barn, house, skeleton coming out of the well with lots and lots of rats. Might not be a popular comment but truthfully Im a little bummed. I wanted the title page for a commissioned illustration (not a Chadbourne). On the bright side I didnt pay extra for it, so I guess thats something.

Gotta accentuate the positive I suppose Nadine - a free remarque is pretty cool (but I suppose it depends on tastes, I know you're not a huge fan of Glenn's, particularly the repetitive stuff) but not so much so if you had other plans for it (ie- having one of the other artists remarque the title page) So, congratulations and commiserations in equal measure

Posterity/prosperity - it's all good :P I like it Nadine, mainly cos I believe you may hold the record for the overall number of rats in any one of Glenn's FDNS remarques (I count 15 1/3 of the furry little buggers) :panic:

Wow. That's a nice remarque, but at roughly $1000 over what FDNS S/L numbered copies are selling for today, I personally couldn't justify triple the market value.

I'm sorry but, ONE RAT is really a totally lame remarque and I really mean no disrespect. You see I believe somewhere there is a "Rat" thread for FD/NS that ended with the famous "Ultimate Rat Edition" that contained, Glenn's absolute most rats and bears the further guaranty to never be reproduced or exceeded. As such the "Ultimate Rat Edition" is a truly one of a kind edition. The only book in existence. So, in that light, this edition has to be considered a "Light weight" by any reasonable standards.

WAY WAY WAY overpriced...I SOLD a remarqued copy for $599....Some people love Chadbourne (I do), others do not....he did many remarques and his remarques are not worth more than $150 in my opinion.

Actually, if my memory serves at all, this edition is not even close to the "Ultimate Rat" edition I mentioned above. As I recall there were 30+ rats in that edition. The rats extended past the full page remarque to quite a few of the pages even. It was designed, by Glenn's own count, to have the record number of rats and as I stated came with the guaranty to never be equaled or exceeded by him. I know, I designed and paid for the donation to the Haven Fund. TN's copy is quite nice and impressive none the less. I'm not trying to take anything away from her very cool and very nice ikkustration.

The art files are on my other PC and I can't get to them right now so, you'd have to ask, Jerome if he still has it. You can see the art on The Collector site under multiple illustrations. I know I sent him all three pieces. As I recall, Baumann did the B/W Truck, Clark did the dice and I'm unsure of which one Chadbourne did if that helps a little.

I was scrolling back through and saw that in 2012 Merlin had a Lettered M up for $1500, so yeah this S/L one might be a tad high.

Also, if memory serves me right, we had a dedicated Rat thread that descended into name-calling and assorted other mayhem and was thus discontinued by the boss. I mean, that certainly sounds like us .......

Really? Name calling and assorted mayhem? From us? Perish the thought, George.Perish the thought!!! LOL I have certainly never sunk to that level before I believe as far as I can recall. lol

You silly bastard!!! LOL

You know George on behalf of myself and the entire "Haven Fund Crew" of contributing members I gotta extend a big "Thank you" for re-visiting this thread and stirring a lot of great memories from the Haven Fund years. I know at least I appreciate it greatly. Not did we only create a LOT of memorable collectibles, but we had a lot of fun doing it and there was some truly remarkable charitable acts contributed by a host of members, artists and publishers to help us attain the success we did over the years,

That's it, my brother!!!! I never actually had the physical book in my hands although, Glenn and I were the ones to come up with the idea for the HF auction item. I think only, Jerome, Glenn and the initial buyer were the one's to physically hold the book. Glenn and I tried to determine the actual number of "Rats" included in the book but, we were working from a collection of pics. There were "Rats" and "Tell Tale Rats" (Rats whose paws or tails were the only indicator) throughout the book which because just what constituted a legitimate Rat lent itself to the "Ultimate" Rat claim. However, I think we lost count somewhere between 85 and 100 Rats.

RF, we sure did some really fucking cool shit over the years for the HF and created some absolutely amazing collectibles. True "One of a kind" never to be reproduced again type stuff. Artists, Authors, TDT.org members and publishers working together in a fashion never to be repeated just for the Haven Fund. There really ought to be a thread that commemorates that stuff somewhere here, don't you think?

HOW in the HECK did i miss the Rat Resurrection thread?

I BELIEVE I am the current owner of "Most Rats in One Book"
However I am having problems locating it. (the Library is vast)
Badpenny won the original auction. AKC beat me out by 3 minutes on the claim in the Great Badpenny Sell-off at Bett's, then he graciously sold it to me after the fact (or at least I have an email suggesting that)

Now i just need to locate that puppy and take some pics or start counting Rats.
