Default Interesting info from Locus magazine

Locus states that this issue had a cheaper binding. I am not sure if that is true.
The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger (Donald M. Grant 0-937986-50-X, Apr ’84 [Mar ’84], $20.00, 224pp, hc) [Roland (Gunslinger)] Reissue (Grant 1982) collection of connected stories, the second edition of this fantasy work which has never appeared in a mass edition (and won’t, according to the author). The new edition has one-color endpapers and a cheaper binding, but the 10,000 copies quickly sold out.

I found that the easiest way to navigate the site is to go to the Table of Contents at the bottom and choose the Year, then click on Title under Books and look up each title separately. Nothing older than 1984 in their system. Nothing newer than 2007.

I was just wondering about the "cheaper binding" comment.

I don't recall the binding being any different. Certainly not to warrant a cheap comment. It was simply a reprint of another 10,000 copies at King's request because so many more knew of it after the Pet Sematary inclusion, right? Did the first have smyth-sewn binding? Was the second glued? I can't imagine Grant doing that.

My copy is smyth-sewn, the same as the first edition.

I don't know the terminology for the material used in the boards of each edition, but the first edition feels much nicer. It is a pleasant brown and feels like it might be covered with some kind of cloth material. The second edition is black and feels smoother and looks shiny. Similar to the boards used for the trade edition of DT II: TDOTT. The second edition boards just look and feel cheaper to me. I think that is what the listing in Locus is referring to.
