And so endeth the tale. The old is made new again and the work eats it's own tail(tale?). I wish I could give this one a 5, I really really do. I can't. I have issues with parts of the book and felt empty when it was done. I feel empty again as I write this. However, I think King succeeded in giving us something to think about. Rather than the soupy ending most books have, we have something to chew over.
Margaret Emmie Mackey Catoe, you are, have been, and always will be my soulmate, and I love you.

I'll give a 5 , because this end? of the long journey for me was more than just
a book, it was many years of believing, cast upon the shores of dreams for me.
I am grateful for all of the 7 books that we love so well , but most of all I am
deeply aware that this book was not so much about closure for me as it was about
life, love and truth.
The answer is within
all matter is energy, all energy is GOD

I didn't even take off any points for the "Susannah Takes the Consolation Prize" ending which felt tacked on and annoying. There was so much other great stuff in this book that it's still a 5 even with that flaw.
a great book. the ending can be arguably one of the most controversal, but who cares? it fits the storyline....a cliffhanger even after the ending. hate it or love it, stephen king created one of the most entrancing book series of all time, and this book really struck a chord with me. a 5 all the way
I have many leather bound books.
I'm kind of a big deal.
Changing the plans that I’ve been setting on, I’m scared by the way that my life is getting gone
5est (even if this word doesn't exist)
Roland would have understood.
4. I chopped a point, because I want Wolves to move on. I actually liked the ending, and thought it the only fitting one.
Five. If I could vote ten I would. I loved this book. Especially the end. It was shocking at first, but after thinking about it...yeah, that's kind of how it had to be.

This is arguably my favorite of the series. Although I still choose The Wastelands as my favorite, but I know it's nostalgia as to why I choose the Wastelands. The DTVII is chocked full of great ideas!

CK was defeated too easily, and was super annoying.
Patrick came outta nowhere.
Susannah's "consolation prize" ending, as Jayson puts it, was also disappointing.
But I still give it a 5. Absolutely a 5.
I know this doesn't make sense, but it was perfect - regardless of its flaws.
hard to believe this wouldn't make it quite far, being the culmination of everything this site is based upon. 5, but not MY favorite King book.
"I wish they'd just wipe out humanity and get it over with. It's the waiting I can't stand." -Fry"I know we can't all stay here forever, so I want to write my words on the face of today." -Blind Melon
amazing book, this book is what brings it all together
Spoiler:
if the worlds gonna end then let's get it over with, i got shit to do
I'm almost done with this but I feel justified in giving it a 4. There are some trouble spots but overall it's a very good book. But just because it's the last DT book doesn't automatically make it the best DT book, nor the best King book.
4
There are absolutely great parts, and the ending is perfect, but the book itself isn't; it's somehow disbalanced, with some parts much weaker than others, and changes in pace inexplicable by any reasons of inner necessity.

bears are back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well put Jean, but I still gave it a 5. Maybe a four was more in order, but for some reason the strong parts have remained with me over the weaker ones which is unusual.
5. No question at all.
5.
There were things that I had gripes with - RF and CK's demises for two, but overall I've never anticipated the release of a book so much, nor felt such a wrench when it ended
Right, Jean. A book earning a vote of 5 should never have any weak parts. I stand by my 4.
I gave it a 3. It was good, but I really didnt see it as being one of King's best works, or even the best DT novel. I find it to be the weakest, actually. I wanted to love it--and there really were some excellent parts--but the flaws were too glaring. The bottom line is...I wasn't that impressed.
Though I did love the ending.

I disagree. The definition of a 5 is "I loved it - 5" not "It was perfect in every way - 5". I don't question your giving it a 4. We each have our own way of ranking things and everybody sees every book differently, but I don't believe perfection is a prerequisite of score of 5.
I don't, either. It's how the imperfections agree or disagree with you in every particular case that counts.

Well said Bear, well said.
