I've never seen a SK book buyer/seller arrested at an event. I have seen a book buyer at a VIP event be threatened with arrest for violating the "rules". Not sure how a rule violation could be against the law, but it was a southern state and testing the "law" at that point would likely have resulted in "drama". Not to mention the question of how the police would handle dozens of signed King books as evidence.

I haven't read the whole thread, and I'm sure I've even commented a few times in it (but I can't remember).

I say buy what you want and sell what you want. If someone else loses out because of it, so be it, maybe they'll be faster/sneakier next time. The market dictates the value of something, so if someone buys/gets books for a low price and sells them for, say, $200 each, and they all sell immediately , then a) he didn't price them high enough and b) people were ok with the price. If someone buys/gets books for a low price and sells them for $1000, and they DON'T sell, then a) they're priced too high and b) people think it's overkill.

Personally, I buy and sell Blu-Rays to make extra money. I have deals going with most of the pawn shops in Las Vegas so that I get first dibs (and I buy them for $3 each, lol), I check Craigslist every night, and I do full research on all the Blu-Rays slated to sell the next day on eBay. All of them. I add to my collection daily, and even more importantly, I add the movie to my list of Blu-Rays for sale, with a price tag higher than what I bought it for. If it sells, GREAT! If it doesn't sell, oh well. Maybe it'll sell later, maybe it won't. Who cares? lol

Do I feel bad about the people that genuinely want to buy the movies for their own enjoyment? Not at all. Fuck em.

P.S. I profited about $2,500 last year from buying and selling Blu-Rays alone.

"A real limited edition, far from being an expensive autograph stapled to a novel, is a treasure. And like all treasures do, it transforms the responsible owner into a caretaker, and being a caretaker of something as fragile and easily destroyed as ideas and images is not a bad thing but a good one...and so is the re-evaluation of what books are and what they do that necessarily follows." - Stephen King

That is certainly untrue. There are honest sellers. David is certainly one of them.

David has sold me Whelan remarques from his personal collection. David has graciously offered me time payments on multiple occasions, helping a collector of lesser financial means score some nice items. David has made it possible for myself and MANY other collectors to grow their collections.

David is most certainly NOT a flipper, he is a Gentleman and a Scholar, and a consummate businessman, to boot.

I hate the people who value the PROFIT over the thing (that brings joy to a collectors life). Who value their own GREED over the story (which made TRUE collectors so happy that they wanted to posses an item)

David is most certainly not this kind of seller. He cares, He collects. He gives.

I reward his ethics with my business (when I can afford it).

The Flippers, I would not give a dime to.

While I totally agree you with you... anyone that sells a book after the publisher has... is a flipper. If david OR anyone sold the book and made zero profit than yes maybe you could say they are not... but I just bought books from David today and he made money. I don't like flippers that scam to buy something WAY under value or meet King and get books signed then ask the world for them... but everyone who sells a book after the publisher has.. is a flipper. Sorry man.. they are

I disagree with that definition. Plenty of people re-sell on the secondary market. What I think a flipper is pretty succinctly stated in my post above, lol

There is some dolt who has a lettered copy of IT Listed on ebay for 15,000 dollars. I think it is safe to guess where he falls on the scale.

Whatever you say my man. We can agree to disagree. A reseller is flipping a book for profit. Your talking about something else. All good though as I agree with the part that upsets you for the most part though.

Wow! Actually, this is a sad discussion and here's why:

I've been collecting King since 1980 (yep 1980).

I'm one of those collectors who purchased S/L books along the way at publish price. So, I recently sold one of my 2 copies of Danse Macabre S/L for right around $900 that I purchased when released for I believe was $75 (could be wrong on that price). So, if I'm understanding the conversation here, I should be selling my copies for what I paid, not the market value?

    I guess I'm a hated flipper.

In your view, at what point or how long does an individual have to own or hold onto a book before it is no longer considered flipping.

Of course not Ralph. You have also personally hooked me up with deals. Just because you make money off of a re-sell does not make you a "Flipper" It can not be argued that you take more joy in profit than you do with your collection! Just take a look at your collection thread. You are one of the most passionate collectors on this whole boards.

What i define as a FLIPPER (and hate) is folks who buy books and only want to make money off of milking a collectors desire. ONLY for the money.

Kind of like a Ticket scalper at a sold out concert or at least when there used to be scalpers before corporate America "legitimized" it with Corporation controlled websites.

If you show up to a concert and need a ticket are you going to buy a ticket from a disheveled individual who may look like a transient standing there going "Tickets, Tickets..." or are you goign to find the guy who just happened to end up with an extra who sells it to you for Face or mebbe a little bit over because you are just like him, excited to be going into the show!

Flippers, Scalpers, Moneygrubbers, call it whatever you want. Those individuals are parasites because they only care about the money and bilking as many "fans" out of it as possible.

Just because you sell at book at market value and it is more than you paid for it years ago does not make you ethically challenged.

The individuals who were selling beat up Dark Tower giveaway one-sheets for $18 a pop are ethically challenged.

Someone who buys up all the (reasonably priced for a collector) IT's in order to make an extra grand because it is in the sweet spot of marketing time (right before and just after the movie drops) and then tries (and probably succeeds) to sell them at a $1000 markup might be considered ethically challenged (they are so in my book)

I'm not sure if it is a time thing. It is a motivation thing. As i've stated before, if they are just making the purchase for the love of money or profit and the opportunity to make money off of a collector, I do not like those people.

The only true power you have as a consumer is your decision where to spend your money.

I will choose the passionate Collector/Seller (who loves the art/story/items themselves, personally) to do business with everytime over the Flipper and continue to look upon the latter with disdain.

I agree that it is a gray area though. LOL and im not trying to make a blanket statement about anyone who sells something and turns a profit. There is plenty of opportunity to mask your motivation and hide behind anonymous selling platforms like ebay.

I just try and support Sellers that have a passion for collecting and love the items/Art/Stories in a similar way that I do
