So how much does a previous owner's name really effect the value of a book? My 1/1 of Night Shift has an owner's name on the inside cover. The book and DJ are in NF condition. I paid considerably less that a Fine copy because I couldn't afford those prices. Does it effect the price by 15%? 25%?

It doesn't affect price at all if you have a professional book restorer remove the FFE and and replace it.

    My two cents..
Not too sure about that. It's no different than writing your name in ink.
I'm wondering if it's possible to have a paper conservationist remove it?
A tiny bit of acetone or bleach on a q-tip/cotton ball can sometimes be used to dissolve ink. Definitely YMMV depending on the type of ink. There's also definitely a risk of damaging the book.

It is on the inside paste down, not on the FFEP - can that be restored as well?

I'm going to have to disagree with that. Any copy that have had FFEP replaced and disclosed would have some price difference vs an identical unrestored copy. Just my personal opinion.

The endpaper is one sheet consisting of the pastedown and the front free endpaper. The whole thing would be replaced.

I'm looking into buying two first edition of the stand. One is early US first and he's asking $250 the other is U.K. First and signed by Bernie wrightson asking $150 Ive seen both books and they look great! Are these decent prices?

Correct. If the paper is sourced from a similar book (later printing, but same paper style) and the work is done properly, IMO it is more desirable than leaving an owner's signature, inscription, stamp etc.
Disclosing the "repair/restoration" if the book was ever sold is an interesting question that is likely worthy of a separate thread.
If I have a classic car and the battery is replaced with a new/identical working battery, do I need disclose that if I sell the car? How about windshield wipers? A cracked windshield replaced with an original old stock windshield?
Like I said, perhaps a thread should be started do discuss the issue.

if it's an early US first and not a first printing, then dont bother with the US copy.

A true UK 1st printing of the stand in fine/nr fine condition WITH a BW signature for $150? I'd be all over that!
"A real limited edition, far from being an expensive autograph stapled to a novel, is a treasure. And like all treasures do, it transforms the responsible owner into a caretaker, and being a caretaker of something as fragile and easily destroyed as ideas and images is not a bad thing but a good one...and so is the re-evaluation of what books are and what they do that necessarily follows." - Stephen King

Wrightson's Nakatomi portfolio of 10 from THE STAND?
I bought this on here awhile ago; the case is damaged along the bottom edge, and the prints have a touch of handling, but otherwise a great set.

I asked because the portfolio was listed on ebay and it just happened to be the number I collect and this thread is dedicated to assessing values. There are other threads to pay respect in.

No need to chastise people. I'm sure it won't bother Wrightson if a question is asked.

Some people just don't know what the saying "Strike While the Iron is HOT" means...Years ago when they "KILLED OFF" Joe Camel... I sold a pair (for someone else)of Joe Camel salt & pepper shakers (price guide at the time was$10) for $150 & today they are still worth about $10.
Unfortunately for TOMMY at this point in time it may push the price up.... When he could have maybe got a bargain on something that had a # he needed for HIS collection.
