My friend's about to read DT VII for the first time
She left here about 45 minutes ago with my copy. I'm so excited! I'll finally have someone in flesh and blood with whom I can discuss the series. I can't wait to find out her reaction to, hell, to so many parts of the book/aspects of the series.

I assume she has read the first 6?
I loaded the whole set to my younger sister after Christmas. She had read 1-3 years ago.
She has just now re-read those 3 + read 4, and now reading 5-7.
So far she's damn happy with it.
i can't imagine reading 7 without having read the other 6 previously. still, you are lucky to have a friend that is willing to undertake roland's journey. thank goodness i have my wife and all the folken here to talk to about the Tower bc most of my friends that I have lent my DT-1 to ever even made it to the Western Sea, and the one that did never did read DT-2 or any others after.

She hasn't made it to Flagg's death yet, and I've been relentless. Every day I'm asking her "How far did you get?" or "Have you read any further?" She says I'm DT VII stalking her.She asked if I would do the same to our other friend when she gets to VII, and I said that was now her job. You know, got to pass the stalking on, keep it moving.
One day I called her office phone and left a message: "How far are you in DT VII?" Nothing else.
She needs to take a few days off work, unplug the computer, tell boyfriend not to come visit, and crack a few so she can finish up. Mmm hmm. That's what she needs to do.

i was working in a restaurant at the time and i set up my schedule to have off for three days starting the day DT-7 came out. i was done by the time i had to go back to work, though i'd have called out sick if i wasn't.

Yeah, you know it's amazing to me. Stephen King can be the world's best-selling author (okay, maybe not as hot as JK Rowling) and yet hardly anyone I know has read these books. Having read and enjoyed all seven DT books, I'd far rather read them than any of his other work. Well, I do have my favorites of those too. Still, how can he be so widely read and yet these books are neglected? Can't the same people who wandered through seven Harry Potter books find their way through seven DT books?
Well, I had it shipped to arrive for the weekend. Mr. Woofer was working all weekend and comes home Saturday evening to me bawling my eyes out. "What-" he starts, and sees DT VII on the couch. "Eddie's dead!" I said and threw my arms around him (Mr. Woofer, not dead Eddie). He comforted me sweetly for a few minutes and let me get back to the book. Of course I was long past Eddie's death, but still...I did the same thing.
I cried a lot during that first reading of DT VII. If you tell anyone, then I'll deny it, kill you, burn the body, dissolve the rest in acid, and flush the works into the Manhattan sewer system, bottle that, and launch it into space with a time delayed delivery system so the detritus can't reform anywhere in our own solar system.

I've spoilered below because of the whole character death issue, but I wonder if we should just flagg the thread for spoilers and not worry? Is that okay? May I get a Mod ruling on this please?
Flagg's death and feels much as I do about it. On the one hand, I feel that he deserved more because he was such an epic character. On the other hand, I feel that he got exactly what he deserved because he had lived so long he had become complacent. Great people make great mistakes, etc.

It's SO fun to get new people onto the tower. As soon as I finished 7, I knew my wife would have to read them, so I put a copy of The Gunslinger on top of ther "to read" pile. Once she finished 7, we put the same copy on her moms pile. She finished last year.
I've got two nephews that have received DT books (from me) so I hope to impress at least 3 generations before I'm through.
This is a fun thread! We all LOVE these damn books!
The only person out in the world I know thats read any of the DT has only read up to Wizard and Glass so its very hard to talk to them about it. Having to constantly bite your tounge is frustrating

Thanks, Jean! That's what I thought (about the spoiler policy and this being the Baronies), but I was trying to be careful. I looked all around and didn't see anything about deaths and spoilers, but I'm sure I saw it somewhere before. I finally decided it was better to err on caution and flagged those just in case - then tossed in my note to Mods before posting.

this whole thread just reminds me how annoyed i am with my friends who couldn't be bothered to push through the Gunslinger, and especially at my idiot friend who lost my original copy of the Gunslinger. Clearly, Woofer's friends are cooler than mine.

believe me, the idea of sending him to the clearing def crossed my mind but it was at least in the days when i could still go to a bookstore and replace it with another un-revised version. otherwise, i'd likley have done something terrible.
