    Default Stephen King Awards

Well this was my work today. I came up with a list of all of the awards Stephen King has been nominated for, and/or won (Yes I had some time on my hands, lol). I'm not sure if this is a relevant thread for this forum, but I thought I would post it here if anyone wanted to look at it. It's more detailed than the one on Kings site, and it doesn't contain as many errors as king's site.

    Wow! Good job!

I don't know if "related" awards such as Academy Awards would be included.

    Nominations:

Stand by Me - Best Adapted Screenplay
Shawshank Redemption - Best Picture, Best Actor ( Morgan Freeman), Best Adapted Screenplay, Sound, Music, Editing, and Cinematography

    Winners:

Misery - Best Actress (Kathy Bates)

Your list is amazing and just shows how much he's accomplished!!!

Bram Stoker sure gets a lot of pub for a guy from Dublin who's been dead for nearly a century, don't ya think?

Seriously though, that's an impressive curriculum vitae.

Does anyone have a point of comparison, e.g. Isaac Asimov, Ray Bradbury, John McDonald?

Some of the awards, like the O. Henry Award, recognize his literary achievements, but a lot are also tributes to how prolific and successful he's been as an author. I wonder how he compares with other popular writers.

Well not many, Straub, Simmons, Gaiman, and whoever have won a lot of awards, but not as many as King. Also I think where he really shines is the number of nominations. Someone might have more wins, but I doubt anyone has as many nominations as King. He's been considered pretty much every year for multiple works.

There's also a couple of things to consider here.

    1. There are more awards nowadays than there were back in the 70's when King was putting out some great work. Newer Authors have been able to reap benefits of having a lot of awards around. And anyone who wrote in the 1950's for example had almost no awards available. So you have to take that into consideration.

    2. And sometimes a book might win a lot of awards like Gaiman's American God's has won five (that I know of) awards. The one book is a quarter of Kings wins. Which isn't really fair, as your really judging a body of work here with this list, not one book. (again statement #1 comes into play here)

It's funny you say Bradbury Ruthful, because I'm also a huge Bradbury freak, and I will do this with his work too sometime soon.

I think it's VERY cool that he won an award for On Writing. He certainly deserved it.

Almost as impressive is the time and energy Geoff put into compiling the list.

    And one more award nomination:

Stephen King's directorial debut in Maximum Overdrive which was nominated for, but did not win, the Razzie Award for worst Director.

btw for someone asking about Bradbury, I did the same thing. King has a ton more nominations and wins. Although Bradbury has more lifetime achievement awards.

Duma Key was nominated for a Bram Stoker Award for Superior Achievement in a Novel

Just After Sunset was nominated for a Bram Stoker Award for Superior Achievement in a Collection

Either of these could be elevated to "winner" after the votes are counted.

Yea, there's some updates, those included. I would have to do some research again to see what else. I don't think their are any winners, though. But he's got a solid chance this year for some new hardware.
