Based on what the Vikings go for compared to some of the Grants, I think I might go with the Grants because those seem to be a better buy (for me.)
Unless I happen to discover some reasonably priced Vikings. (I did find Wizards and Glass for half cover at HPB and it was in pretty good shape a few months ago (not to mention a few years ago finding the Grant W&G for $50 at Powells.))
This is a possibility. At least one of the vikings is a 2nd print, but worth asking about the others.
DT II - 1st print $18.89 BIN
DT IV 1st print $33.95 or $20.99
"A real limited edition, far from being an expensive autograph stapled to a novel, is a treasure. And like all treasures do, it transforms the responsible owner into a caretaker, and being a caretaker of something as fragile and easily destroyed as ideas and images is not a bad thing but a good one...and so is the re-evaluation of what books are and what they do that necessarily follows." - Stephen King
It's likely that at some point you will want to have both sets, so I would get the Vikings and the Grant books.
Looking for a Salem's Lot Centipede Press Gift Edition. Hit me up.
I hear that. At the very least, you'd want all the Grant editions, Viking reprints, all three printings of Gunslinger, the Artist Editions and the full set of the 1st UK editions. The F&SF mags are also a must. But take it slow. I'm fairly certain you will get them all over time.

If we didn't have issues, none of us would be here!! LOL. I have a pretty much have all the basic DT series 1st/1st, AEs, some Remarque's, etc. Missing the high end S/L stuff and I'm just not into the mags. I'm in need of the UK paperbacks 1st/1st though.
Sure, the list is seemingly endless for the completist. I had to break out all my DT books into a dedicated bookcase, which is now completely full and I have only scratched the surface. Just look at Rogier's amazing collection to see how far you can take it.
thanks for the lead on this. I contacted the seller and all of the Viking editions were retail editions and not book club (that was my biggest fear.) And while they weren't all 1st printings, that wasn't my goal it was to replace my paperback copies with hardcovers.
So thank you again!
I can see how easy it would be to "over-collect" and I'm definitely falling down that rabbit hole.
I used to do that with comic books, and am now seeing my girlfriend do the same with all those damn covers to JEM (it's funny - she turned into the 90s version of me!) and now here I am trying to formulate the exact reason why I have multiple copies of these books.
I have however slowly turned her onto the whole collectible book idea. Acquired a few autographed editions of some of her favorite books, also gave her a nice limited edition (only 60 copies) of a recent Sherlock Holmes novel, and just recently bought her a nice s/l book from Sub Press.
