I'll reserve judgement until the trailer. Uncle Stevie's not the most trustworthy source when it comes to recommendations I'm afraid.

I'll come clean about my motivations: I thought the idea of some random internet guy pushing his way to the head of the line, as it were, to dismiss King's opinion in favor of his own would be hilarious, so I decided to be that guy, if only for a moment (actually, I'm encouraged by King's comment - he didn't have to say anything, so this may mean good things, and I'm always interested in his take on all things horror).

Plus, it's always fun to interject some form of "I will be the judge"; it can be hilarious in a number of contexts (go ahead, try it). It's also lots of fun to refer to one's self in the third person - you could even combine the two approaches with something like "only St. Troy can be the judge." Also, sing along to songs and replace the word "I" with your name, and "my" with "Jim's" etc. ("my way" becomes "Jim's way" etc.) - also lots of fun. Much fun can be had with false arrogance - but I digress.

lol this is so true, at least with stuff based off his work. Kind of like Stan Lee rating a Marvel movie at this point.

(He does come up with some good book recommendations on his twitter though.)

The first half of the two-part movie event for Stephen King’s It is currently in post-production and already had test screenings in the middle of last December. While it wasn’t certain if the film would receive a sequel (nothing was confirmed), it appears that such a movie was always in the plans and will in fact begin filming later this month!

According to MyEntertainmentWorld, the second half of It will begin filming in Toronto, Ontario, on March 17th. This film will specifically deal with the adult portion of the story.

The synopsis on the site reads: A promise made twenty-eight years ago calls seven adults to reunite in Derry, Massachusetts, where as teenagers they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city’s children. Unsure that their Losers’ Club vanquished the creature all those years ago, the seven had vowed to return to Derry if IT should ever reappear.

It’ll be interesting to see how the first half performs, especially with the fervor and adoration for “Stranger Things” still in the air. Such a story may very well resonate with audiences who may not usually go for horror but fell in love with the Duffer Brothers’ spellbinding Netflix series. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see when It hits theaters on September 8th!

In the first half of It, Jaeden Lieberher, Finn Wolfhard, Nicholas Hamilton, Jack Dylan Grazer, Wyatt Oleff, Chosen Jacobs, Jeremy Ray Taylor, and Sophia Lillis star with Bill Skarsgard, who portrays Pennywise. In addition, creature performer Javier Botet has signed on as The Leper, and Owen Teague plays Patrick Hocksetter, part of a group of bullies who torment The Losers’ Club.

Andy Muschietti directs from a screenplay by Gary Dauberman and Chase Palmer. Dan Lin, Roy Lee, Seth Grahame-Smith, David Katzenberg, and Barbara Muschietti produce.

Seller has been trying to offload that since just after the limited book was released!
"A real limited edition, far from being an expensive autograph stapled to a novel, is a treasure. And like all treasures do, it transforms the responsible owner into a caretaker, and being a caretaker of something as fragile and easily destroyed as ideas and images is not a bad thing but a good one...and so is the re-evaluation of what books are and what they do that necessarily follows." - Stephen King

They showed a trailer and a scene last night. Audience reaction remains to be very positive:

So the IT teaser footage made me jump twice. Loved what I saw & I'm VERY excited about this one now. I've been soooooo skeptical of it since it was announced. I fell in love with the kids immediately. I'm happy.
The screened footage of IT at #SXSW gave me chills. Pennywise is legit terrifying.
just got the exclusive first look at the new 'it' movie..... holy shit guys. it looks incredible. i'm #shook. the new pennywise looks so good on screen. i'm so freaking excited!!!!
They showed a teaser trailer for IT and a scene of the Losers Club interacting in the barrens. Gotta say the footage looked pretty good. Might've been how they teased Pennywise & used some nicely timed jump stingers in the trailer, but I gotta say, the clown design worked.
The scenes shown at SXSW were delightfully suspenseful, and the brief glimpses we got of Pennywise were downright terrifying without feeling at all hokey.
Muschietti had this to say about the movie:

Here are some highlights of what Muschietti had to say about his approach to IT, the character of Pennywise, and the response he recently received from author Stephen King:

What I can tell you is that he is terrifying, and there was a lot of work involved in bringing a new version of that character to life. The work I did with Bill Skarsgård was great, and he was amazing and a very impressive, talented, sweet young man.

We tried to keep Bill away from the kids as much as possible, and there’s of course that first moment of confrontation, but I tried to delay that as much as possible. He was with them for the read-through, but then that was it, and all the kids were like, “It’s okay, he’s not going to scare us,” but that first day he got onto the stage, they fucking freaked out. I can’t even describe how scary he looked in person.

My first instinct was to basically be true to my own emotional experience with the book. I read it when I was a kid, so it was all about me trying to hit the core and the heart of the story, and the characters, too. I don’t want to spoil the plot, but you will notice that the story swerves into different directions. The arc of the Losers' Club is a bit wider in range, and you will notice there are things that happen to them in this movie that weren’t in the book or in the 1990 miniseries. So I think it’ll be a refreshing experience for fans, and a terrifying one, too.

One of the choices I made as a director was that I wanted to make the sense of dread that grows in Derry part of the dread of Pennywise. He’s not just a character that can shape-shift, his influence is all around. The anticipation of him is almost scarier than the actual Pennywise scares.

I grew up admiring Stephen King and reading his stories, and he’s a big part of me as a person and as a filmmaker. It was very, very humbling to get his response [to the film]. It was a tear-jerking moment.

Shown footage breakdown, so massive spoilers:

    Spoiler:
The trailer opens with footage of Bill Denbrough making a paper boat for his little brother Georgie. We then move outside, where Georgie is chasing his boat in a rainstorm as it floats next to the curb. Suddenly, Georgie runs right into a street barrier, which knocks him down on the ground. He then watches as his boat sails into a gutter. He runs to the gutter and tries to see if he can see his boat. As he looks deep into the sewers, Pennywise abruptly appears before the screen cuts to black.

Then we are shown the members of the Loser’s Club meeting each other and realizing that they’ve all been seeing the same entity, before one of them finally says “The Clown.” Once that happens, the teaser then moves into its centerpiece, which shows the members of the Loser’s Club looking at pictures on a carousel slide projector that suddenly acquires a life of its own and begins moving through the slides at an increasingly alarming speed. The pictures are of Georgie and his parents, and each slide zooms in on Georgie’s face before cutting to his mother, whose hair is covering her face. As the projector moves from slide to slide, the hair moves out of his mother’s face, and her face is revealed to be that of Pennywise himself.

The trailer then blows through a flurry of shots, as most trailers are wont to do. The most striking image from this succession of shots is the unforgettable moment when blood flows out of Beverly’s sink, only in Muschietti’s film it spews out like a geyser and blasts her in the face. There is also a sublime image of Pennywise approaching two of the children (he has them cornered against a wall), but the shot is framed in a way so that only his long, bony fingers fill the screen. The children are in the background, out of focus but clearly terrified.

The teaser ends with Bill walking down into his flooded basement, where Georgie’s ghost taunts him by repeatedly screaming “We all float down here!” before Pennywise rises from the water and rushes at him, in a moment that had the entire audience screaming. It is at this moment that the screen cuts to black and the word “IT” appears on screen.

    Spoiler:
We were also treated to a short scene from the film, which takes place right before Ben Hanscom is attacked by Henry Bowers and his gang. The scene shows Bill, Richie, Eddie and Stan at the entrance to the sewers in the Barrens, as they debate on whether or not to go inside. Before they make a decision, they are interrupted by Ben, who abruptly shows up, beaten to a bloody pulp. There wasn’t much to see here, but it did give you a good idea of the chemistry that the children will have in the film. Their banter feels natural and it flows well. Again, it wasn’t much but it was a solid two minutes of footage.

Any educated guesses on how long until we might see a trailer?
It seems I'm miles above the surface of the Earth

There's a lot of guesses on the trailer release, but nothing official. Could be anywhere between tomorrow and somewhere in May, really, but at least we know there's a rough cut of one.

Ain't It Cool now has a pretty extensive write up on yesterday's showing too. I found this part especially interesting,:

Muschietti also talked about how important it was to him that he created a fully realized and grounded Derry, Maine because when Pennywise wasn't onscreen his influence needed to be felt in the town itself. When IT shows up IT has a negative ripple effect on the town, infecting it with his evil. People turn mean, bad things happen on small and large scales.
Very much in the spirit of the book. Read the rest here: http://www.aintitcool.com/node/77424

Wait...so Pennnywise is a BAD guy?

    I must rethink my worldview!
All that's left of what we were is what we have become.
